Olivia Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower in HBO’s House of the Dragon, spoke to Collider in August 2025 to tease what’s to come in season 3 of the show:
Well, I think I can say for the show that it is, you know, it starts off with a bang. The first two eps were essentially supposed to be our finale last year. So you can just imagine coming into that sort of energy. It’s bigger and more ferocious than ever before, I think is what I can say.
Before the release of season 2 of House of the Dragon, Deadline reported that the season will have 8 episodes instead of 10 like its predecessor.

You don't come across an iconic Game of Thrones quote often these days. But there was a time when you could randomly utter "Valar Morghulis" in public and you'd randomly hear someone declare "Valar Dohaeris."
George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire book series and HBO's Game of Thrones gave us some of the most legendary quotes and dialogue exchanges ever seen on TV. From Tywin Lannister's arrogant wisdom to Cersei's hate-filled speeches, we were well fed. Tyrion Lannister's witty remarks and Arya Stark's girl boss quotes had you cheering at the screen.

The Free Folk are one of the most significant races in Game of Thrones, possessing a rich history and culture unlike anything we’ve seen in Westeros. Most viewers immediately think of the word “savage” upon the mention of any Wildling names, but not all of them actually live up to that description.
There are many Wildlings featured in the TV adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, but in this list, we’ve selected the most familiar ones to rank by their savageness level. As mentioned, not all of them are brutal and primitive—some are actually endearing and friendly!

As House of the Dragon season 3 enters the final stretch of filming, one of its stars is promising major events for the hit Game of Thrones spinoff.
The HBO series ended season 1 on a high note as it kicked off the Dance of the Dragons. This is the civil war between the families of House Targaryen that would reshape all of Westeros. Season 2 saw the war in full swing with brutal deaths on both sides.
A key moment in season 2 was when Dowager Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) secretly met Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), as they both realized this whole war started because Alicent misunderstood her husband’s dying words to...

Brandon Sanderson is currently one of the most popular names in modern fantasy fiction, but he feels the genre is relying too heavily on world-building. As a result, Sanderon’s comments could mark trouble for George R. R. Martin, whose writing is greatly enhanced by its worldbuilding.
During an interview with People, Sanderson revealed his issue with fantasy authors relying too heavily on worldbuilding.
The big catch-22 of fantasy is people go to the fantasy section for the world-building. But they don’t stay for the world-building.

The actor, who rose to fame for his performances in Doctor Who and The Crown, portrayed Prince Daemon Targaryen in the prequel series.

After the House of the Dragon season 2 finale faced backlash, one of its stars claims that season 3 plans to rectify the mistakes and regain the show's good standing with fans. After Game of Thrones received criticism for rushing its final season, expectations were lowered for its first spin-off. Fortunately, fans and critics alike overwhelmingly praised House of the Dragon season 1.
However, House of the Dragon season 2 didn't receive quite as much praise; it currently has an 83% Rotten Tomatoes score, down seven percentage points from the inaugural installment. Even A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin lashed out, claiming that the producers didn't properly adapt his book Fire & Blood for the small screen.

George R.R. Martin once famously posted a long rant about House of the Dragon omitting Queen Helaena’s child, Prince Maelor, from the picture and how this decision will subsequently affect the storyline in Season 3. With the child nowhere to be found in Season 2, it already weakened the Blood and Cheese episode and will further diminish the emotional impact of the upcoming tragic scenes.

Game of Thrones is filled with steamy scenes, and while some were romantic and passionate, others were mind-blowingly creepy and uncomfortable. The vast number of intimate scenarios had been a trademark of the show, most especially because of its medieval setting.
Throughout its eight-season run, viewers witnessed the most shocking and unexpected pairings, and while there were more bed scenes in the earlier installments than the later ones, it doesn’t mean they weren’t catching fans off guard. In fact, some of them were much wilder than what we’ve already seen!
In this list, we ranked the most unforgettable and raunchiest scenes from the series based on their creepiness level.

Elden Ring is one of those games that you either give up playing after the 100th death or you become endlessly obsessed with and replay again, and again, and again. Thankfully for A24's upcoming movie adaptation, writer/directorAlex Garland falls firmly into the latter camp. Garland is famously a big comic book and video game fan, having written and shadow-directed 2012's Dredd movie starring Karl Urban. But the writer of 28 Days Later and Devs has taken his obsessive prep to a whole new level for Elden Ring. Garland didn't just come up with a quick elevator pitch; he practically wrote an entire script!

While conversing with The New York Times, the prolific author shared his love for the Jim Parsons-starrer sitcom:
Big Bang Theory, I think is my favorite current comedy. There’s really more good TV shows than you can watch.

The lack of racial diversity in Game of Thrones was a prevalent issue, and one fan even reached out to George R.R. Martin to express their frustration. Responding to the fan’s query about whether they could expect any change, Martin assured them that The Winds of Winter will have a diverse pool of characters with significant parts in the story (via Not a Blog):
Westeros around 300 AC is nowhere near as diverse as 21st century America, of course… but with that being said, I do have some ‘characters of color’ who will have somewhat larger roles in Winds Of Winter. Admittedly, these are secondary and tertiary characters, though not without importance.

For a hard-hitting, high-stakes TV show like "Game of Thrones," it's usually a good thing when fans wish they could undo some of the characters' deaths. That's a sign that audiences cared, and that the cast and crew did such a good job that it really feels like we've lost a friend. There's a little part inside every "Game of Thrones" fan that wishes they could undo Ned's death, for instance, even though we know that without his death, the entire rest of the show could never happen.
But as any "GoT" fan who made it through the later seasons could attest, not all "GoT" deaths are on the same level.

When James Gunn took charge of the new DC Universe (Dcu) as co-ceo and creative lead back in 2022, many fans were curious about how he planned to approach this massive world with so many beloved characters and a comic history that spans almost a 100 years.
Recently, in a candid interview with friend and collaborator Rainn Wilson for Interview Magazine, Gunn shared that his creative blueprint for building the Dcu comes from none other than Game of Thrones.
Here's what Gunn said in the interview:
"You talk about George R.R. Martin, and he is really one of the guys who I love and look up to. I’m an enormous fan of his and people say,...

Apart from Game of Thrones, author George R.R. Martin also works on the superhero anthology Wild Cards with Melinda M. Snodgrass, a project they have been pushing for a Hollywood adaptation for years. Despite having a script readily available, the project fell through due to a series of unfortunate events.
In an exclusive interview with FandomWire, the Star Trek: The Next Generation writer stated that the time is now ripe for a screen adaptation and later revealed the aspect that she wants to be portrayed faithfully in the series:
I wish. God knows George [R.R. Martin] and I have tried. I have written so many versions of either a movie or a TV pilot,...

Fantasy fans know author George R.R. Martin is an icon in the genre space, but what books in the genre does he recommend? Well, we now have an answer.
Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels were adapted into HBO's mega success Game of Thrones, which alone made him a household name. While fans are still eagerly awaiting The Winds of Winter, the beloved author discussed his own influences in the genre. It’s no surprise that his works may influence others, but he had to draw from his own favorites in the fantasy world, too.

When Outlander’s prequel dropped its title, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, fans of the time-traveling saga immediately linked it to one of Jamie Fraser’s most iconic declarations of love to Claire: “Blood of my blood, bone of my bone.” But genre aficionados raised their eyebrows at something else, too. And that’s where the unexpected Easter egg from George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones sneaks in.
This is no mere poetic overlap. In Dothraki, “Qoy qoyi” means “blood of my blood”, a sacred address shared between a khal and his bloodriders, forged in unbreakable loyalty, not just lineage. The full expression, Qoy qoyi anhoon, literally translates...

In a remarkable feat that positions Dexter: Resurrection among TV’s elite, the reboot has surged into IMDb’s highest ratings tier. The show currently holds the #3 position on the website’s list of TV shows by popularity, but beats every other show in the top 10 by ratings. The spot for having 9+ ratings for 5 or more consecutive episodes was previously, in May 2025, held by legendary TV shows like Game of Thrones and Andor.
Dexter: Resurrection on Paramount+ stars Michael C. Hall as the titular character, Jack Alcott as his son Harrison, David Zayas as Angel Batista, James Remar as Harry Morgan, and many fresh faces. The show premiered...

James Gunnhas just articulated his approach to shaping the burgeoning DC Universe–and it’s the exact opposite of how Marvel Studios has been telling their stories. The Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker has spent plenty of time bringing Marvel characters to life, but was put in charge of creatively guiding the rebooted DC cinematic universe in 2022.
The first official project in Gunn’s Dcu, Superman, hit theaters this summer to critical and commercial success. The second release, Peacemaker season 2, premieres on HBO Max on August 21, and is expected to transport John Cena’s character from the DC Extended Universe to the new continuity.

Melinda M. Snodgrass’s writing for Star Trek: The Next Generation raised profound questions about humanity and ran incredible thought experiments, which became a hallmark of the Star Trek franchise. Her most popular episode, The Measure of a Man, explores many existential questions about sentience, rights of artificial intelligence, and what makes one a human through the character of Data.
Melinda Snodgrass’s work on Star Trek predominantly dealt with Data and similar questions of what makes one a human. Snodgrass has been publishing her writings since the ‘80s, and despite being a law graduate, her works often lean towards the fantasy and sci-fi realm. She has also worked with...

George R.R. Martin uses several viewpoint characters to tell the story of A Song of Ice and Fire, and so far, Tyrion Lannister sets the record for the highest number of Pov chapters with 49 in total. It’s no wonder, though, as Martin revealed the Imp is his favorite character from the series.

The author also confirmed in his interview with the Game of Owns podcast that we’ll hear more of The Winds of Winter narratives through Tyrion’s perspective.
There’s a lot of Tyrion in this book. And I think I’m close to finishing the Tyrion arc in Winds of Winter. I think this chapter and maybe one further chapter; and I won’t be done with the book, but I’ll be done with Tyrion’s role in this particular book.

James Gunn has asserted that the new Dcu is not like the MCU, even though fans often compare the franchises to one another. After all, the two universes both have well-established superhero bases, shared storytelling elements, and long-term release strategies, but the DC Studios co-head has doubled down on his opinion that they are not as similar as people think. He explained how the Dcu differs from the MCU, while also likening his and Peter Safran's soft reboot of the DC Extended Universe (Dceu) to Game of Thronesand Star Wars.

Some people hate English class in school. And yet, it cannot be overstated what a gargantuan role the course can play in helping not only inspire people to pursue literary careers, but also in helping them to realize the power the written word can hold over an audience.
George R.R. Martin is a perfect example of this, as the highly acclaimed Game of Thrones author recently revealed that one of the early highlights of his writing career came in the form of a school assignment that had to do with a classic Edgar Allan Poe story.
Poe has served as a benchmark of Gothic horror literature for centuries now and is poised to continue to influence audiences for years to come. From classic horror films such as the Vincent Price-starring The Masque of the Red Death to more recent fare such as Netflix’s Wednesday series, Edgar Allan Poe...

Fans of Game of Thrones know George R.R. Martin loves his twists and turns. Martin upended so many conventions in his works as he seemingly built up Ned Stark as the hero of the saga, only to kill him off midway through the first book. He kept it up with more stunning turns like the Red Wedding, and made readers realize no one was safe in the saga.
During a recent talk at Seattle WorldCon 2025, Martin took part in a panel where he related this love of twists to his childhood and also offered up quite an interesting take on The Lord of Rings.
As many know, Martin always cited The Lord of the Rings as his biggest early influence in writing. He’s not alone, as J.R.R. Tolkien's epic was the inspiration for many a burgeoning author. While he's a big fan of the works, that doesn't mean...

HBO’s Game of Thrones was a gamble when it began in 2011, but when it came to an end in 2019, it had become a global phenomenon like no other. With heightened popularity and budget came increased cast salaries as well. Right now, Peter Dinklage, who portrayed Tyrion Lannister, is the richest of them all. He has a net worth of $25 million (via Celebrity Net Worth).
Based on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novels, Game of Thrones was a financial juggernaut for the actors. Some of the actors earned more than $1 million per episode by the time the final season ended. From Emilia Clarke’s colossal salary to Dinklage’s paycheck and more, here we will rank the net worth of the main cast members.
7. Maisie Williams (Arya Stark)- $6 Million
Maisie Williams didn’t reach the high mark of earning $1.2 million in the final season like some of her co-stars did.

Creating an intro to a TV or streaming series that both captivates the audience and encapsulates the entire show in as short of a time as thirty seconds to a minute is a much more difficult task than most think. This is not specifically about listing cast and crew, as some shows typically save that part for the actual post-credits instead of the intro. Rather, what defines an effective TV intro is how well it can introduce the viewer to what they are about to watch and show them why they want to see it. Very few shows convey the tone, style, plot, and general conflict that the series is built around. These five shows not only check all the boxes just mentioned, but they also make their case to the audience why they should watch the story that follows. ‘The Sopranos’ HBO's critically acclaimed drama from the 2000s has...

Since its debut in 2011 on HBO, the Game of Thrones franchise has seen its fame and reach span across multiple continents, establishing itself firmly in the minds of audiences. When its reign ended, its prequel, House of the Dragon, took the throne, seeking to maintain the legacy. After a solid first season, House of the Dragon delivered a second season that divided opinion for several reasons. Season 3 is in production, and expectations are high with the promise of action, dragons, and fierce battles. Also in the works within the franchise is another prequel show, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on the Dunk & Egg novellas. The show has wrapped...

After months of muted reception in theaters, In the Lost Lands, adapted from George R.R. Martin’s short story, has started finding a second life on streaming platforms. The film is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, stars Milla Jovovich and Dave Bautista in the lead roles, and is currently trending on Netflix, Prime Video, iTunes, and Rakuten.
The dark fantasy tale struggled with critics from the outset and has earned only a 23% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 4.7/10 on IMDb. Yet, like many genre films overlooked in cinemas, it’s now experiencing a surprising redemption arc online, where niche audiences and fantasy loyalists are driving it back into conversation.

We know that fans are frustrated about the wait for what will be the final book in George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones series; however, one fan took their frustration a bit too far at this year’s Worldcon event, calling out the author in front of his peers and fans with a blunt statement about the progress of the book.
At the annual Seattle convention, Martin joined fellow authors Brandon Sanderson, Robin Hobb, Rebecca Roanhorse, and Ryan Cahill, for a special panel discussing their works. The panel was a celebration of the authors and their many amazing works, but one fan used the panel as an opportunity to try to humiliate Martin with a pointed question about his mortality and what it would mean for The Winds of Winter.
