The best-selling author of all time, as of this writing, remains William Shakespeare, a little-known British playwright from Stratford-Upon-Avon, Warwickshire, who lived from April 23, 1564 to April 23, 1616. He wrote some obscure plays that you've probably never heard of. Stuff like "Cardenio," "The Two Noble Kinsmen," and "Edward III." He's not nearly as well-known as his contemporaries Ben Jonson, Philip Henslowe, or John Fletcher. 

But I kid the Bard. There isn't a student in the English-speaking world who wasn't forced through at least four or five Shakespeare plays in high school. Raise your hand if you still remember a Shakespearean soliloquy you were required to memorize for your 10th-grade English class. 

After Shakespeare, some of the best-selling authors of all time include Agatha Christie, Danielle Steele, Harold Robbins, J.K. Rowling, Eiichiro Oda (the author of the "One Piece" manga), and Jackie Collins. No doubt you've explored some of these authors in your spare time at airports.

Tornadoes can be terrifying, but that doesn't stop people from watching a movie about them. In real life, there are courageous storm chasers who start their potentially dangerous journey with one mission: to look a storm in its eye, or rather, get up close and personal to study it or admire its scary beauty. While when this happens in real life, fear takes over those at home getting alerts and warnings from meteorologists to take cover, movies like Twistersare entertainingly whirling up the charts. According to Flix Patrol, the 2024 film is among the top movies to watch on Prime Video.

It hasn't left the top ten on the chart and is currently staying in the top three. Twisters is a sequel to Twister (1996), which starred Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton. The Glen Powell-led production follows a clashing group of storm chasers who investigate a tornado outbreak in Oklahoma.

The 21st century has been wonderful for fans of Marvel live-action productions. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, the Fox X-Men series, the MCU… you name it. Before that, the situation outside the comics was a mess. While DC was doing well, Marvel was struggling to get something decent going. In the ‘70s, a decision was made to focus on the small screen, so shows like The Incredible Hulk and The Amazing Spider-Man were made, but they weren't hits for the ages. The third production was even worse.

There were high hopes for Dr. Strange when it aired as a CBS movie on Sept. 6, 1978. The idea of the movie was conceived by writer, director, and producer Philip DeGuere, best known for his later work in Magnum P.I., Jag, and NCIS. According to Jessica Walter, who played the villain, Morgan Le Fay, DeGuere “wanted everything to be perfect.” Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

I've recently been on a disaster movie kick. Perhaps it's because everything seems a little bleak right now. Or perhaps I just needed something brainless to watch — disaster movies can be fun, but let's be honest: they're not exactly high art. As I went from one disaster movie to another, a curious theme began to arise. In addition to these films all following a similar set-up, in which we see famous landmarks and buildings completely obliterated by destruction, they also all seem to share a similar plot element: the hero/main character is almost always going through a divorce or separation, or already divorced from their spouse. And in almost every case, the impending disaster ends up rekindling that seemingly dead relationship.

This got me thinking: is there any sort of deeper meaning here? Speaking from experience, I can tell you the act of divorce can seem like world-ending event...

According to Deadline, Twisters has topped Oppenheimer's record as the new Peacock's biggest Pay-1 film ever in its first 14 days. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung, the sequel to Michael Crichton's 1996 blockbuster Twister stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Powell in the lead roles and was an even bigger hit at the box office than the original film. The sequel broke a record at its opening as the No.1 box office debut for a natural disaster film and ended its run with $267.7 million domestically.

From July 1, the original movie, directed by Jan de Bont, from a screenplay by Michael Crichton and Anne-Marie Martin, is now available to stream on Max, giving subscribers a real treat just days before the film is set to be released on 4K Blu-ray for the first time.

Twisters, the Glen Powell-Daisy Edgar Jones sequel to the 1996 action movie is looking at a $50M start, per tracking, when it opens July 19. Lower end of pic’s forecast is at $45M.

Like everything in the current marketplace, walk-up business and a heat wave are driving all forecasts higher than where tracking has been spotting figures, but this movie always was figured by distribution sources as one of summer’s wins. The question is, with all the tornado warnings going on this summer, will people want to watch havoc wreaked on the screen? Well, it didn’t stop them back in 1996, when the first movie, released by Warner Bros and directed by Jan de Bont opened to $41M and went on to make $241.7M domestic.

The duo will be in the center of meetings to be held next week in which they’ll pitch the book, a large scale earth-threatening thriller about a volcano explosion in Hawaii. At the same time, Jim and Vasarhelyi might also be directing a documentary on the life of the late great Crichton.

Eruption is a big scale disaster novel tale that Crichton spent 20 years working on before his untimely death. The novel just went out to studios and other major buyers. It’s expected to be a big sale, continuing the legacy of the brilliant author behind everything from Jurassic Park, Westworld, Twister, ER and so many others.

With great action comes great effort. Glen Powell teased “one of the most incredible action sequences of all time” in this summer’s Twisters, coming July 19.

The actor recounted his experience shooting the storm sequence in a Fandango’s Big Ticket interview, which he says “all happens in a oner.” The appearance was pegged to the film’s tickets going on sale.

“We shot that in December, with a rain machine,” Powell says in the clip. “One of the coldest nights I’ve ever experienced, getting dragged across a pool by a wire. I think it was the most physical thing that I’ve ever done.”

Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters sequel will receive its Italian premiere at this year’s Taormina Film Festival, which takes place July 12 to July 19 in southern Italy.

Twisters will screen at the festival’s historic Teatro Antico amphitheater. This year’s event will mark the festival’s 70th edition. The film will be released in Italian theatres on July 17 via Warner Bros. Pictures and will hit North American cinemas on July 19 via Universal Pictures.

“I am grateful to Warner Bros. for this wonderful gift, which confirms one of our programming guidelines: relying on diversity of styles,” said Marco Müller, artistic director of the Taormina Film Festival. “With Twisters, Lee Isaac Chung has gone from his Academy Award-winning drama Minari to deliver a spectacular cinematic event speaking to an even wider audience.”

Twisters is billed as “a sweeping current-day chapter of the 1996 blockbuster.” The film stars Golden Globe nominee Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate Cooper, a former storm chaser, and Glen Powell who plays Tyler Owens, a charming and reckless social media superstar. The synopsis reads: Two opposing forces, come together to try to predict, and possibly tame, the immense power of tornadoes.

The cast also features Golden Globe nominee Anthony Ramos (In The Heights), Brandon Perea (Nope), Golden Globe awardee Maura Tierney (Beautiful Boy), and Sasha Lane (American Honey), along with David Corenswet (the upcoming Superman), Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders), Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Nik Dodani (Atypical).

Producers are Frank Marshall (the Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones franchises) and Patrick Crowley (the Jurassic Park and Bourne franchises). The film was written by Mark L. Smith, screenwriter of The Revenant, from a story by Joseph Kosinski, based on characters created by Michael Crichton & Anne-Marie Martin.

Scheduled to receive a theatrical release on July 19, 2024, Twisters has been described as a “new chapter” in what is about to become a franchise… and during an interview with Vogue, cast member Glen Powell – who can currently be seen on the big screen in the romantic comedy Anyone but You – confirmed that the film tells a standalone story. But even without any connection to the original film, he believes that it’s something that will be able to connect to everyone around the world.
