Naya Rivera Was Excluded from Grammys in Memoriam Tribute and Glee Fans Are Furious
Image
Naya Rivera fans are not happy with the 2021 Grammys after the late Glee actress was left out of the In Memoriam tribute segment. Rivera sadly passed away in July 2020 after accidentally drowning during a boating trip with her 4-year old son. The Glee actress was nominated in 2010 for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for "Don't Stop Believin,'" but lost out to "Hey, Soul Sister" (Live) by the pop/rock band Train.

While Naya Rivera wasn't shown during the Grammys broadcast for the In Memoriam segment alongside Little Richard, Gerry Marsden, John Prine, Kenny Rogers, and others, she was included with more than 1,000 others listed in the Grammys' online Memoriam. Regardless, her fans are not happy with decision to leave her out of the broadcast and are sharing their thoughts on social media. "So disappointed in the Grammys for not including Naya Rivera who gave...

Grammys give special tribute to musicians who died over past year
Image
Los Angeles, March 15 (Ians) The Grammys went a step ahead this year to honour musicians who passed away over the last year.

Apart from the usual display of names and photos of the artistes, which is the annual feature, this year the honour also included performances of songs by four musicians -- Little Richard, Kenny Rogers, John Prine and Gerry Marsden -- who died in the past year.

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak (or Silk Sonic) performed "Long tall Sally" and "Good golly, Miss Molly", two of the biggest hits of Little Richard, as a tribute to the rock 'n' roll pioneer, who died of bone cancer in May.

Lionel Richie sang "Lady", his 1980 song that was first recorded by Kenny Rogers, who died last March. "I miss you Kenny," he said after the performance.

Singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile performed John Prine's "I remember everything". Country-folk singer Prine died of Covid complications in April.

George Martin
George Martin, Beatles Producer, Passes Away at 90
George Martin
George Martin, the man best known as "The Fifth Beatle", who is responsible for some of The Beatles biggest hits, passed away at the age of 90 yesterday. The beloved music producer's death was first revealed by The Beatles' drummer Ringo Starr's Twitter account, and later confirmed by several other outlets including CNN, who announced the producer died "peacefully in his home" in England. Here's what the producer's manager, Adam Sharp, had to say in a statement.

"In a career that spanned seven decades he was recognized globally as one of music's most creative talents and a gentleman to the end. The family ask that their privacy be respected at this time."

George Martin was born to a working-class family in 1926, and in his 20s, he began his career in music by producing a number of classical music productions, taking over Emi's Parlophone music label at the age of 29. He...

The Tami Show – The DVD Review
The recent passing of Lesley Gore was not noted on We Are Movie Geeks, I’d like to correct that and as a tribute to her review one of the best concerts ever captured on film (actually on video but I’ll get to that soon.)

Born Lesley Sue Goldstein in New York City on May 2nd 1946 Lesley Gore passed on February 16, this year. She never tried her hand at acting (to my knowledge) yet she appeared in several films and many television shows singing one of or more of her considerable string of hits in a very strong voice, for such a little lady.

It’s My Party is probably her most famous and well remembered song but Judy’s Turn To Cry, Maybe I Know, Sunshine Lollipops, You Don’t Own Me and several other songs charted during her long career. She never resented being consigned to the...

Brian Comport obituary
Screenwriter of British horror feature films such as The Asphyx and Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny and Girly

Brian Comport, who has died aged 74, was the screenwriter for the cult films Mumsy, Nanny, Sonny and Girly (1970), The Fiend (1972) and The Asphyx (1973). Like so many others working in the British film industry during the last half century, he had ups and downs, but the horror feature films he wrote are widely regarded as classics of the genre.

His break into films came in 1967 when he was introduced to Norman Cohen, a film editor on his way to becoming a very successful director, who had acquired the film rights to Geoffrey Fletcher's delightful 1962 book The London Nobody Knows.

Cohen had secured James Mason to narrate the commentary, and Brian was engaged to provide the words. It was Brian's idea to have Mason walk and talk directly to the camera, making the film a...

Liz Sladen: "Don't forget me"
Liz Sladen says goodbye to Tom Baker's Doctor at the end of The Hand Of Fear:

Elisabeth Sladen, Doctor Who's very own plucky Metropolitan journalist and all-time great companion, has passed away at the age of 63.

Born in Liverpool on February 1st 1948, Elisabeth's performing roots started at a very young age, with a keen interest in dancing and one appearance with the Royal Ballet. Drama school beckoned after this, and by the early 1960s, she was working at the Liverpool Playhouse repertory company - where she met her husband Brian Miller (Dugdale from Snakedance).

Liz's first on-screen work was as an uncredited extra in Gerry And The Pacemakers film, Ferry Cross The Mersey in 1965. By the early 1970s, she was starting to gain roles in popular TV series such as Coronation Street, Doomwatch and Z Cars. She nearly won the role of Betty in popular sitcom Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em,...

'The T.A.M.I. Show': Out on DVD for the first time, it's a '60s-rock revelation
Chuck Berry, Marvin Gaye, Lesley Gore, The Supremes, The Barbarians, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas, Gerry and the Pacemakers, James Brown and The Famous Flames, Jan & Dean, and Smokey Robinson & The Miracles in The T.A.M.I. Show (1964)
If you've never seen The T.A.M.I. Show, the 1964 youth-concert explosion that has just been released on DVD for the first time, then by all means get hold of a copy of it. It's an electric surge of '60s rock-and-soul energy that will leave you bopping, laughing, and generally awed at the crackly pop fervor of the moment it captures. I confess that I didn't realize, until now, how unique that moment was. The first time I saw The T.A.M.I. Show, back in 1979 (it was then a fixture on the revival-house and college film-society circuit), I was, at the time,...
