Gavin Newsom Projected To Easily Defeat Recall & Remain In Office — Update
Image
3rd Update, 8:39 Pm Pt: California Governor Gavin Newsom was projected to defeat an effort to recall him from office, beating back an effort by Republicans to score a victory in the deeply blue state. CNN and NBC News called the race about 40 minutes after polls closed, with indications of a lopsided and blowout victory for the “no on recall” side. The networks had held off on projecting the race until they could discern the trendlines of election day vote. Just a month ago, polls showed the race close among likely voters. But the race seemed to change as Newsom was able to sound the alarm that he could be ousted from office and replaced by Larry Elder, a supporter of Donald Trump. The latest results show the No on Recall garnering 2/3 of the vote. If the margin holds, that would be even larger than Newsom’s lead in the 2018 election.

Hollywood Insiders Defend “Essential” Worker Status Amid Growing Criticism
Image
On Dec. 5, a Los Angeles County-based restaurant owner went viral after posting a video of herself showing off her outdoor dining area, which she was forced to shut down after November orders from California Gov. Gavin Newsom. In the clip, the woman, Pineapple Hill Saloon & Grill owner Angela Marsden, pans away from her patio, its picnic-style table and chairs situated 7 feet apart to comply with Covid-19 restrictions, to reveal a series of large white tents with similarly distanced seating a mere 50 feet away.

The second outdoor dining area wasn’t for another restaurant, though. It was the ...

Judge Rules That L.A. Officials Acted “Arbitrarily” When Ordering Restaurants Closed Due To Covid-19 Risk, But State Health Order Still Stands
Image
A Los Angeles judge has tentatively ruled that Los Angeles County acted “arbitrarily” and without “rational” justification when it ordered a closure to all outdoor dining at restaurants as a coronavirus-control measure. Superior Court Judge James Chalfant notes, however, that due to the state’s overriding regional stay-at-home order that also includes an in-person dining ban, “outdoor restaurant dining in the county cannot reopen at this time.”

When asked about the order on Monday, L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said that the data on mask-less people at restaurants is “crystal clear at every single level that you look at it.”

“I don’t think there’s any debate that, where people are in close proximity with other people not in their household, not wearing a mask and mingling for extended periods of time talking, singing, sharing — there’s an increased risk of transmission,” said Ferrer.

Judge Chalfant...

Gov. Gavin Newsom Details Vaccine Distribution Plan Amid Widened Stay-at-Home Order
Image
California is set to receive 327,000 doses of a Covid-19 vaccine by Dec. 15 and distribute 2.16 million doses by the end of the month.

“Hope is on the horizon,” Gov. Gavin Newsom said on Monday during a morning news conference in Sacramento.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is meeting on Dec. 10 to consider an emergency use authorization for the Pfizer vaccine. If that’s approved, Newsom said the first 327,000 vaccine doses from Pfizer will be arriving in California five days later.

The Fda will make a decision about the Moderna vaccine on Dec. 17, which will lead to a total of more than 2 million doses being distributed by the end of December. Newsom said distribution of that vaccine will be handled in partnership with McKesson, while Pfizer is handling distribution on its own. The governor announced last week that the first recipients will include acute care workers, employees in skilled nursing homes,...

Anger Grows Over Stay-At-Home Orders, With LA Sheriff Saying He Won’t Enforce Them
Image
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dept. deputies are leaving things to the health department when it comes to enforcing new stay-at-home orders.

New mandates go into effect tonight at 11:59 Pm, as Gov. Gavin Newsom has issued orders he hopes will stem the increasing number of Covid-19 cases and free up intensive care unit spaces, which are being crowded by new victims of the coronavirus. The new rules curtail business capacities and suggest that no one leave their homes except for essential trips to buy food or seek medical attention.

LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said enforcement at businesses was not their job.

“I want to stay away from businesses that are trying to comply the best they can,” Villanueva said.”They bent over backwards to modify their entire operation to conform to these current health orders, and then they have the rug yanked out from under them, that’s a disservice.

COVID-19 (2020)
Closed Restaurant Owner Decries ‘Hypocrisy’ of LA Covid-19 Orders Allowing Film Shoots
COVID-19 (2020)
A Sherman Oaks restaurant and bar owner has decried the “hypocrisy” of Los Angeles County’s Covid-19 order that prohibits outdoor dining but allows film shoots to continue operating amid a surge in cases.

In a video that circulated widely on social media Friday, Angela Marsden, the owner of Pineapple Hill Saloon & Bar, said she was “losing everything” after being forced to shut down outdoor dining and could not understand why the county would allow film productions to continue mere feet away from her restaurant.

“Everything I own is being taken away from me, and they set up a movie company right next to my outdoor patio,” Marsden said. “And people wonder why I’m protesting and why I have had enough. They have not given us money and they have shut us down. We cannot survive, my staff cannot survive. Look at this.”

“Tell me that this is dangerous but right next to me,...
