The fourth instalment of the franchise presents a further unedifying parade of guns, geezers and gore
It’s the mid-90s, and the pill supply is drying up at the Essex nightclub run by gangster hardman and newly minted ex-con Pat Tate (Craig Fairbrass), along with his henchpals Tony (Terry Stone) and Craig (Roland Manookian). Tate toodles over to Spain in search of revenge on past associate Harris (see the last Footsoldier film), only to find his nemesis is no more. Recently risen mobster Terry has taken over Harris’s place in the chain of command as well as his icy-hearted, coked-up lady friend.
Terry offers Tate an in on a big drug deal, if he can get his goofy underlings Tony and Craig to bring the cash over from the UK without losing it on the way on sex workers in Amsterdam. Much sniffing, shagging, snickering and throat slitting ensues,...

This true crime-inspired trudge through the cockney underworld is both misleadingly romanticised and too cheaply produced
Somehow, this true-crime-inspired gangster film brings to mind the 80s/90s concept of “heritage cinema”, a phrase that back in the day was applied to films by Merchant Ivory and any literary adaptation of the era. This particular period drama, however, has no ladies in crinolines sipping tea. Indeed, this recounting of the rise and fall of London mob boss Jack “Spot” Comer (Terry Stone) and his protege-cum-rival Billy Hill (Leo Gregory) mostly features lairy cockney men swearing and slicing each other up with cut-throat razors or finding even more inventive ways to inflict pain. But the film’s nostalgic posturing – where boozy nights in the pub were soundtracked by skiffle-band covers, £80 was a lot of money and all prostitutes were pretty – is just as misleading and romanticised as anything that Helena Bonham Carter...

Simon Rumley (director of Red, White & Blue, Fashionista & Crowhurst) has begun a six week shoot on the brutal gangster thriller Once Upon a Time in London – for Gateway Films – which dramatises the violent reign of two of London’s most notorious gangsters, Billy Hill (Leo Gregory) and Jack ‘Spot’ Comer (Terry Stone), charting the legendary rise and fall of a nationwide criminal empire that lasted until the mid-fifties and which paved the way for the notorious Kray Twins and The Richardsons.
Director and co-writer Simon Rumley commented:

*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by producer Paul Tanter. **there are minor spoilers here. Director: Simon Phillips. Writers: James Crow and Simon Phillips. Cast: Nick Nevern, Kellie Shirley, Jenna Harrison, Con O'Neill, Peter Barrett, Roland Manookian, Lorraine Stanley, Mark Harris, Charlie Bond, Steven Berkoff, and Merveille Lukeba. Tagline: "Hooligan first, cop second." GBH is the latest film to come out of the United Kingdom from actor and director Simon Phillips and distributor Revolver Entertainment. The film is set during the London riots of 2011. In this setting, a love story develops between characters Damien (Nick Nevern) and Louise (Kelly Shirley). Violent events split them apart. The film offers an anti-violent message, but that message might be lost amongst all of the chaos occurring onscreen. Overall, GBH is an entertaining film with only a couple film elements hampering the film's full potential. If you did not know.

This is the Pure Movies review of Piggy, directed by Kieron Hawkes and starring Paul Anderson, Martin Compston, Josh Herdman, Neil Maskell, Louise Dylan, Roland Manookian, Jumayn Hunter and Ebony Gilbert. Written by Michael Holder for @puremovies Bleak realism, tough lives and urban gloom. Piggy, the debut feature from young writer-director Kieron Hawkes, is the kind of film for which critics play a game of chicken over who first uses the words “gritty British drama” (a hollow victory right there for others , if claimed). There’s violence, too, of course. At one point, the film’s title character stamps on a man’s head perhaps as many as 30 times; each and every blow causing such a crushing squelch that it wouldn’t be surprising to see the camera tilt down to a pile of pulverised watermelons.

The Rise and Fall of a White Collar Hooligan is written and directed by Paul Tanter (Jack Falls) and features a top ensemble genre cast including Nick Nevern, Simon Phillips, Roland Manookian, Billy Murray, Rebecca Ferdinando, Charlie Bond and Ricci Harnett.
Black & Blue Films MD Jonathan Sothcott said "we are delighted to be dipping our toe in the evergreen hooligan genre. I thought Jack Falls was a terrific looking picture and Paul Tanter has brought the same gritty realism and high production value to this new project. Boasting a great ensemble cast this is sure to be the must-see British crime movie in 2012."

When talking about British Film there are certain, unavoidable, assumptions one automatically makes. Those crisply enunciated words have long conjured pictures of rolling hills, heaving bosoms, mad Kings and foppish fools. An entire industry has been built upon the ever changing hair of Mr Hugh Grant and Jane Austen’s back catalogue has been taken advantage of in the parlour time and time again.
It is a world apart from those reliable old exports that we may find the Britain of gangster flicks. They populate a straight-to-dvd nether world which has scant regard for global recognition. These are not slick Ritchie flicks, attracting Hollywood stars to a middle-class vision of roughing it. These are honest to goodness, behind the scenes at the terraces, unflinching looks at a crude life of crime. A fist-full make it to limited big screen release bolstered by underworld faces, true-crime notoriety and boxing names. Few...

Just for the Record gets its DVD release today. The latest offering from British hard man movie veterans Raw Productions and Black and Blue Films represents quite a departure from the usual blokes, birds and bust ups you might expect from a glance at the impressive ensemble cast. Uniting honest-to-goodness Brit luvvies Rik Mayall and Steven Berkoff with genre regulars Danny Dyer, Craig Fairbrass, Billy Murray and Sean Pertwee, the mockumentary details, in flashback and anecdote, a doomed film shoot. A year after the collapse of low-budget flick Just for the Record, documentarian Andy Wiseman (Rik Mayall) sets out to uncover and capture the cause of the films demise. Along the way he encounters a cast of real-life characters so far-fetched it soon becomes horribly clear why the movie failed…
The film-within-a-film premise of Just for the Record is an interesting one and on paper the cast are strong. Though...

The main thing that separates HeyUGuys from other film sites is one of the things I value most about us – we aren’t obsessed with the Hollywood Blockbuster. While we enjoy the privilege of bringing you coverage of the popcorntastic openings of films such as Iron Man 2 and The Prince of Persia we also embrace the opportunity to support newer voices in British cinema. To that end we spent last night in Mayfair. We were not there shopping for fine designer goods, nor were we fine-dining from a quadruple starred plate. We were there to celebrate film – gritty British film. That film was Just for the Record and the night was about as gritty and Britty as you can get without a bulldog, a Union Jack, or George and his Dragon putting in personal appearances!

Dead Cert is the latest movie from Raw Productions, the company behind the upcoming film industry mockumentary Just for the Record starring Rik Mayall, Danny Dyer, Craig Fairbrass and Sean Pertwee due for release in May. Dead Cert is gangster/vampire action horror, with Craig Fairbrass, Jason Flemyng, Dexter Fletcher and Steven Berkoff. The official synopsis reads:
Freddy Frankham thought he’d left the world of organised crime behind. But on the eve of the opening of his new venture, an upmarket gentlemen’s club called Paradise, Freddy finds himself drawn back into a life he’d rather leave in the past.
With an all-star cast that includes Craig Fairbrass, Billy Murray, Dexter Fletcher, Jason Flemyng, Andrew Tiernan, Janet Montgomery, Roland Manookian, Ciaran Griffiths, Lisa McAllister and Steven Berkoff, Dead Cert is a gangster film with a difference, and a roaring, rampaging antidote to the limp, romanticised vampires of modern horror films.
