Robert Mangiardi is a New York actor who came from a family of 9 children. His father was a prominent NY heart surgeon. His first acting venture was a high school play, "The Apple Tree", a musical where he played the role of Adam and admits he did it to meet it's leading lady, Janet Murphy, who later went on to become Vice President of Casting for ABC TV in New York. He did not attempt to act again until he came to Los Angeles in his mid-thirties and attended an acting class with famed Hollywood director Daniel Mann. Danny could be brutal in his comments to his students but the very first scene Robert put up was greeted by such a complimentary response from Danny that the actor cried on the spot-he had finally found his calling. His very first TV job was a recalling role on the famed CBS series, "Wiseguy", which starred the late Ray Sharkey and Ken Wahl. Guest Star roles on other network shows such as "Murder She Wrote", "Midnight Caller " and "Jake and the Fat Man" quickly followed. Robert abruptly quit acting and left for New York where he recorded a jazz CD, "Deep in the Black" which featured Robert's vocals over standards and original compositions in a homage of sorts to Chet Baker. He then with fellow New York actor and director Ric Rogers, made the acclaimed documentary film, "Stay Away a Little Closer" about the life of his mentor and best friend, acclaimed NY playwright John Ford Noonan. The film won "Best Bio Doc" at the NY International Film Festival in 2006 and has been in festivals around the country. Robert revisited acting in 2006 with a starring role in the Toronto Film Festival 2006 Grand Prize winner, the acclaimed faux political doc, "Death of a President". He came back to LA in 2009 to resume acting on a regular basis. That year he starred in Tommy Carter's play, "Hellz Kitchen Abaze", which had runs at the Pan Andreas and Elephant Theaters and won critics pick in virtually every publication in town. Robert's work as the frayed NYPD detective Gino Spucinelli garnered considerable praise from the press and his peers alike. That was quickly followed by his stage performance of "Pug"(his favorite) in Patty McCarthy Gliniewicz's, "The Birches" which also had runs at two L.A. venues. He then starred with Michael Pare and Frank D'Angelo in in the mob drama film "Real Gangsters" and since has been on "Criminal Minds" along with other film and TV projects. In 2018 ,Robert had a year long theatrical run in Howard Skora's hit comedy "Damaged Furniture" at the Whitefire in L.A. only to be to be followed by a writing, acting and performing and music composition turn in Academy Award winning writer Bobby Moresco's, "Working 2020" also at The Whitefire Theater. Most recently Robert was cast in the off Broadway production of "Woman IN Black" at the eponymous McKittrick Hotel in NYC with an all English cast that was cut short by Covid 19. An accomplished guitarist and singer-songwriter, Robert performs concerts in L.A of his original music on a regular basis. He is a proud regular member of The Actors Gym in Sherman Oaks.
