Beloved '80s Manga Makes Surprise Return With New Poster 30 Years After Live-Action Remake
Image
A legendary Shōnen Jump manga is about to rise from the rubble and tell its enemies they're already dead with a new series over 40 years after its first adaptation hit airwaves in Japan. The new Fist of the North Star anime just received its first poster, which not only shows off the series' iconic protagonist Kenshiro but also reveals that the iconic post-apocalyptic martial arts franchisewill be making its return sometime in 2026. Warner Bros. Japan first announced the project back in 2023 in celebration of the original manga's 40th anniversary. The latest update comes ahead of Anime Expo 2025, where the producer is expected to unveil the first teaser and the main voice cast at its industry panel on July 5.

Fist of the North Star, originally titled Hokuto no Ken, was a fixture of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from 1983 through 1988, following the journey of the martial artist Kenshiro through an Earth decimated by nuclear war.

‘Gunslingers’ Review: A Posse Seeks Stephen Dorff’s Neck in High-Body-Count Western
Image
Edwin S. Porter’s 1903 “The Great Train Robbery” is widely regarded as one of the first major narrative films — using a then-advanced clutch of techniques to tell a real, almost epic (at 12 minutes) story rather than simply to record a vignette. It also helped solidify the Western as a form specially suited to this new medium, even if it was shot in New York and New Jersey.

Telling a tale that begins that same year, Brian Skiba’s new “Gunslingers” is another “eastern Western,” shot in Kentucky. But the prolific writer-director’s latest provides an illustration of how the genre became somewhat fossilized via formulaic writing and overexposure even before 1950s television began churning out Western content in bulk. The modern-day equivalent of a Poverty Row “oater,” it’s more violent and profane than the sagebrush programmers of yore. Still, those factors can scarcely hide a serious lack of conviction...

The Entire Saw Universe Timeline Explained
Image
Want to play a game? Try to explain the entire "Saw" universe timeline in chronological order, from 2004's "Saw" through 2023's "Saw X."

The wildly popular and influential horror franchise made its mark with its intense use of gore, the performance of star Tobin Bell, and the many iconic traps that torture its characters. But what it's best remembered for by its dedicated fans is its soap-opera-like overarching storyline, featuring fake-out deaths, secret alliances, and a ton of flashbacks.

The "Saw" franchise timeline is so complicated that there isn't an easy answer to the question of what order someone should watch the movies in, with "Saw X" potentially setting up a secondary timeline of events that will continue to unfold parallel to the first nine films. We've done our best to take all the confusing events of the series and place them in order, revealing the hidden narrative that carries the saga of "Saw.

‘Gunslingers’ Movie Review: Nicolas Cage Is A Weirdo In The Wild West
Image
From the ‘80s all the way to the early 2010s, Nicolas Cage was one of the most popular actors in all of Hollywood. I became a fan of his after watching Con Air and Face/Off on a loop because they were on TV all the time. But while most of his films were released on the big screen first until 2013, he turned a page in 2014 and didn’t stop starring in direct-to-video movies until 2017. Many were perplexed as to why Cage was tarnishing his image like that, but I think he didn’t shy away from admitting that he was doing it to pay the bills—bills with a lot of zeros in them. It seemed like he was en route to starting a new era by featuring in projects like Mandy, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Pig. And he kind of did. Nowadays, while he does show up in...

‘Gunslingers’ Review: The Bright Spot of This Anonymous Western Is, of Course, Nicolas Cage
Image
Writer-director Brian Skiba’s Gunslingers is the filmmaker’s second western to reach theaters this year, following Guns of Redemption just last month, and it feels no less hastily assembled. While the cast of Stephen Dorff, Nicolas Cage, and Heather Graham alone is an upgrade over that of the earlier film’s, there’s little else to keep Gunslingers from blurring together with Guns of Redemption, or any other modern western of its ilk that was always destined to disappear into the limbo of VOD.

Thomas Keller (Dorff) is a wanted man on the run in the Kentucky wilderness. Looking to put his violent past behind him, he arrives at the town of Redemption, which, as its name bluntly suggests, is a haven for outlaws wanting to start their lives over. With the help of the town’s reformed criminal populace, Thomas fakes his own capture and execution, in order...

Is Hollywood Incapable Of Capitalizing on Beloved Franchises?
Image
This week, we were treated to the teaser poster and plot synopsis for the legacy sequel to I Know What You Did Last Summer, and it may as well have been copy and pasted from the first film. A generic hook, the same title of the film released nearly 30 years ago, and the damn near exact same plot synopsis: “When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer… and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.“

Don’t get me wrong,...

Saw 11 Officially Pulled From Release Calendar, Another Horror Sequel Takes Its Place
Image
A once pulse-pounding horror franchise has flatlined. Jigsaw's next killing spree was officially shelved on Monday after Lionsgate removed Saw 11 from its schedule and swapped in horror sequel The Strangers: Chapter 2 in its place.

Originally intended for a Fall 2024 release, the sequel was punted to the Sept. 26, 2025 date that The Strangers sequel now inherits. Despite the track record of delays, the latest puts the franchise's future in flux. Production warfare has plagued the project since its Spring 2024 announcement. Saw 11 co-writer Patrick Melton provided insight into the stall, telling The Hollywood Reporter:

“The reason it’s held up is just, there’s inter-squabbling between producers and Lionsgate. They just can’t quite get on the same page.”

Producers Can't Crack Jigsaw Puzzle, Lionsgate Silently Kills Saw 11 "It's 100% Over."

The grim update gets bleaker. According to Bloody Disgusting, a source "verified as being close to the production of its newest sequel.

'Saw XI’ Just Got Slashed Off Lionsgate’s Release Calendar
Image
Like the extremities of one of Jigsaw's victims, Saw XI has been sliced off the release calendar. The Hollywood Reporter has the news that the troubled horror sequel will no longer be released on September 26, 2025. It has been ceded to an entry in another long-running horror franchise: The Strangers: Chapter 2 will now see a wide release on that date.

It was previously reported last week that Saw XI, the follow-up to 2023's franchise-reviving Saw X, was effectively dead at Lionsgate after coming to a standstill amid squabbling among its producers. The removal of the film from the release calendar would seem to confirm that, but Lionsgate insists that, unlike John Kramer, the movie isn't as dead as it appears. In a statement purported to be from series mascot Billy the Puppet, the studio stated that "I’ve seen the rumors. They say it’s Game Over. You all...

Why Was Saw 11 Canceled: After Close to $100 Million Profit With Saw X, Lionsgate’s Controversial Decision Is Confusing for Us
Image
If you ever found yourself screaming at the characters in a horror film for making dumb decisions, the Saw franchise flips the script. Here, the victims don’t just run into a dark alleyway with a dead end when there’s a serial killer chasing them, instead, they find themselves in horrifying traps where every move means life or death. Guess there is just something about watching people struggle against almost impossible odds…in a twisted kind of way.

Saw X (2023) | Credits: Lionsgate Films

While the critics may have not been entirely kind to the franchise, which has ten movies to its name, Saw sure is a favorite among horror fanatics who are looking for something different than your average ghosts and killers lurking in the shadows. Unfortunately, recent reports have proven to be an unpleasant surprise for the fans as Saw XI gets canceled.

Has Saw XI been cancelled?
Image
As soon as Saw X, the tenth entry in the Saw franchise (you can read our review Here), was released in September of 2023, franchise producers were already talking about the potential of a Saw XI. The official announcement came that December, along with a release date: September 27, 2024… but then it was said that the producers and Lionsgate had decided to take a little extra time with this one, Saw XI was pushed back to September 26, 2025. Now, our friends at Bloody Disgusting are reporting that we might not see another sequel in the Saw franchise at all, as a source “close to the production” has informed them that Saw XI has been cancelled!

According to this source, “It’s totally dead. It’s 100% over. Almost a year now.” The source added, “Everything went sideways in January 2024 … the producers started fighting.” One producer attempted to plow forward with the film, but the...

‘Saw’ Series Shocker: Is It Game Over for ‘Saw XI’?
Image
Seven installments. A soft reboot. A spinoff. An… inbetweenquel?

After two decades, ten films, and over a billion dollars grossed worldwide, Saw remains one of horror’s most popular and enduring franchises. Unfortunately, the series’ iconic villain Jigsaw may have already set his last trap, according to an anonymous source Bd has verified as being close to the production of its newest sequel.

“It’s totally dead,” the source tells us. “It’s 100% over. Almost a year now.”

After the commercial and critical success of 2023’s Saw X, Lionsgate announced Saw XI with a teaser image and a September 27th, 2024 release date. Not long after, Saw X director (and franchise veteran) Kevin Greutert was revealed as the upcoming sequel’s director, with previous series scribes Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan on scripting duties.

In addition, Saw stars Tobin Bell, Shawnee Smith and Costas Mandylor were to return to their roles for this outing.

Nicolas Cage, Heather Graham, and Stephen Dorff get weird and wild in the West for the rootin’-tootin’ Gunslingers trailer
Image
Ladies and gentlemen, I implore you! Please bear witness to today’s Gunslingers trailer and revel in the action and unseriousness of this delightful preview for what looks like an off-the-wall Western starring Nicolas Cage, Heather Graham and Stephen Dorff.

Today’s Gunslingers trailer is the shot in the arm I needed. I’m a massive Nicolas Cage fan, especially when he’s most unhinged. Don’t get me wrong, I love his dramatic roles in films like Pig, Leaving Las Vegas, and Dream Scenario. However, allowing Cage to be at his Cageiest is a cure for what ails ya.

Brian Skiba directs Gunslingers from his own script. The story unfolds in Redemption, where reformed gunslinger Thomas Keller (Dorff) and a mad genius, Ben (Cage), are guided by a spiritual leader named Jericho toward vindication. While wrestling with his inner demons, Keller runs afoul of the Five Points Gang. The confrontation forces Keller’s hand,...

The Dark Knight First Look Revealed As Director Uwe Boll Refuses To Change Title After Wbd Cease & Desist
Image
Earlier this year, the news broke that Armie Hammer, whose career came to a screeching halt in 2021 following some pretty disturbing allegations of sexual misconduct, had been cast as the lead in a movie called The Dark Knight from director Uwe Boll.

Based on an original script by Boll, Hammer is set to play Sanders, a man "who takes justice into his own hands as he sets out to hunt down criminals. While his crusade transforms him into a social media sensation and a hero in the eyes of the public, the local police chief sees him as a menace to society and aims to take him down."

“The story of The Dark Knight couldn’t be a more current topic, and I’m excited to bring it to life with this excellent cast,” said Boll in a statement (via Variety).

‘In Tenebras: Into the Darkness’ Review
Image
Stars: Michael Paré, Costas Mandylor, Anthony Loddo, Johan Wickholm, Rebecca Davis, Tayah Kansik | Written and Directed by Martin Nuza

In Tenebras: Into the Darkness begins with text telling us that at the end of World War II, a German U-boat was seized off the coast of Gibraltar. Its contents were hidden somewhere in the miles of tunnels under the fortress. We see part of that, soldiers moving a crate through underground tunnels and shooting an unarmed German Pow as he begs for his life. More text tells us that what we are about to see is based on a true story.

In the present day, Captain Shaw and Major Cummings direct a rescue operation in Gibraltar harbour, saving several hostages from bad guys who we’re eventually told were terrorists planning a bombing.

Elsewhere Hank (Anthony Loddo) has reconnected with his half-brother Josh (Johan Wickholm). It seems their grandfather was...

Get a first look at Armie Hammer dealing out vigilante justice in the Uwe Boll movie The Dark Knight
Image
The concept for this upcoming film almost sounds like a throwaway punchline in a comedy — “Controversial acting figure Armie Hammer will attempt to make a comeback…but it will be in an Uwe Boll movie. This movie will be about a vigilante who deals his own brand of justice and it’s titled…The Dark Knight.” However, not only is this movie happening, it’s already well into production in Zagreb, Croatia. Boll stated, “The story of The Dark Knight couldn’t be a more current topic, and I’m excited to bring it to life with this excellent cast.”

You can now get a new look at The Dark Knight as Variety has shared a couple of new images from the production. Additionally, the cast has added Costas Mandylor, who is a regular actor in the Saw franchise. The Dark Knight is based on an original script by Boll,...

Armie Hammer Returns to Screen in Uwe Boll’s Latest Vigilante Thriller
Uwe Boll at an event for BloodRayne (2005)
Director Uwe Boll has launched production on his latest film, a vigilante drama tentatively titled “The Dark Knight,” currently shooting in Zagreb, Croatia. The movie stars Armie Hammer as Sanders, a justice-seeking protagonist who operates outside traditional legal boundaries.

Actor Costas Mandylor has joined the cast as Henry, an Interpol officer tasked with tracking down Hammer’s character. This casting sets up a potentially intense narrative dynamic between a vigilante and the law enforcement officer pursuing him.

“We’re very happy to add Costas Mandylor to our cast,” Boll said. “To see him acting opposite Armie Hammer is truly a pleasure.” The film reunites Mandylor with Boll after their recent collaboration on “Run,” which is currently seeking U.S. distribution.

Executive producer Michael Roesch praised Mandylor’s involvement, stating, “We already enjoyed working with Costas on our last movie and couldn’t be happier to have him back. His vibrant...

Filmmaker Uwe Boll is back with a new action-packed vigilante thriller, ‘The Dark Knight,’ starring Armie Hammer as a man who takes justice into his own hands. The film, currently shooting in Zagreb, Croatia, has also added Costas Mandylor (‘Saw’ franchise) to the cast. Along with this announcement, the production team has released a first-look image from the film, giving fans a glimpse of what’s to come.

In ‘The Dark Knight,’ Hammer plays Sanders, a man who goes rogue and begins hunting down criminals himself. Mandylor takes on the role of Interpol officer Henry, the man tasked with stopping him. ‘American Trash’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Robert Lasardo, Lorelei Linklater, Rich R. Rendon, Gigi Gustin, Costas Mandylor, Tom Sizemore, Elissa Dowling | Written by Robert Lasardo, Adrian Milnes | Directed by Robert Lasardo

Robert Lasardo’s American Trash marks both the directorial debut and a major change of pace for the prolific actor, whose first role was almost forty years ago in Abel Ferrara’s China Girl. Over the years he’s become known for roles in films like In Hell, Bridge of the Doomed and Amber Road, but he’s chosen to make a drama that trades physical brutality for an unflinchingly brutal look at pain, loss and the toll modern society can take on people.

Milles (Robert Lasardo) is a combat veteran who now works as a tattoo artist while trying to get a grip on his Ptsd issues. One of the few things that seems to bring him a sense of peace is listening...

Saw's Jigsaw Come To Life In Creepy Gender-Swapped Cosplay
Image
Saw's Jigsaw has come to life in a creepy, gender-swapped cosplay that imagines if Billy the Puppet were female, giving a new perspective to the series. Throughout its 10 core entries, the Saw movies have seen John Kramer (Tobin Bell), otherwise known as Jigsaw, kidnap dozens of people and makes them go through torturous gauntlets, a twisted form of getting them to appreciate their lives more. The killer utilizes Billy the Puppet, a pale, black-haired ventriloquist dummy with red swirls on his cheeks, to deliver messages to his victims, acting as the face of his serial killer alter ego.

Now, AshleyArtistryy_ has released a cosplay of herself as Jigsaw's Billy puppet, bringing the Saw villain to life in a gender-swapped rendition. She sports white facepaint and red lipstick, alongside wavy black hair and red contacts to match the puppet's eyes. Painted on her cheeks are two small spirals, while she wears a red bowtie,...

Everything We Know About Saw XI
Image
Of all the historic Hollywood horror franchises, one in particular has maintained its relevance better than the rest. While people still remember The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Child's Play, and The Nightmare on Elm Street, they aren't flocking to the theaters year after year to see the new installment. With an entire company of dedicated filmmakers aiding its growth, James Wan and Leigh Whannell's baby is about to reach adulthood. 21 years into the Saw franchise, and the series is as relevant as it has ever been. If the success of the previous installment is any indication, it seems like it won't be stopping anytime soon.

Fresh off the wild success of Saw X, critically and financially, the team at Twisted Pictures hopes to deliver another satisfying entry. The eleventh entry in the Saw franchise, Saw XI, is currently slated for a 2025 release, but what other information about the highly-anticipated sequel is out there?...

Isan Beomhyun Lee in Saw X (2023)
Best Saw Traps: We look back at the franchise’s gnarliest moments
Isan Beomhyun Lee in Saw X (2023)
Saw X appears to have reinvigorated the Saw franchise, so while we wait for Saw XI to come along, we here at Arrow in the Head have decided to take a look back at the previous films in the series to compile a list of the Best Saw Traps. There were many traps to choose from, but the idea here was to narrow it down to the best trap (or trap scene) from each individual movie. Check out our picks below, and let us know what your favorite traps were in the comments section.

Saw – Reverse Bear Trap

Of course this one had to make the list, since it’s the most popular trap in the entire franchise and the one most strongly remembered by the general audience. The reverse bear trap caught so much attention when it showed up in the first film, they brought it back in a couple of the sequels.

Saw XI writer teases the theme of the next movie: 'It's got something new to say'
Image
Saw XI writer Marcus Dunstan recently provided an update on the ongoing development of the popular horror franchise's upcoming eleventh installment, slated for a September 26, 2025 release date. According to his conversation with Screen Rant, Saw XI is an "angry" film with "something new to say."

Dunstan previously co-wrote the scripts for Saw IV, Saw V, Saw VI, and Saw 3D with fellow scribe Patrick Melton. He's returning alongside director Kevin Greutert. In addition to directing the acclaimed tenth film Saw X, Greutert also directed Saw VI and Saw 3D.

Grossing more than $1.1 billion worldwide, Saw is a mega-popular horror franchise originally conceived by Leigh Whannell and James Wan, who produced the original 2004 film that introduced us to the twisted mind of John Kramer and his serial killer alias Jigsaw.

While popular with horror fans, the Saw film series has never been beloved by critics. Until Saw X. A surprisingly refreshing take on the genre,...

"It's Angry": Saw 11 Gets Enticing Development Update From Returning Franchise Writer
Image
Saw XI writer Marcus Dunstan teases the sequel's script, saying it has something "angry" to say. Dunstan has co-written 5 previous Saw movies. Saw XI releases on September 26, 2025.

Screenwriter Marcus Dunstan provides a development update on the long-awaited Saw XI. Initially created by Australian filmmakers James Wan and Leigh Whannell, the long-running horror franchise began with Saw in 2004. Following the successful release of the first movie, 9 other installments have been added to the series, with the latest being the well-received Saw X. Now, in an exclusive interview with Screenrant, Dunstan, who has co-written 5 previous Saw installments, revealed that the script for Saw XI is currently being written. He also adds that the forthcoming installment has something fresh to say, and it would also have a fairly angry theme.

The First Saw Movie Spoiled Its Villain Twist Right Away (& You Surely Missed It)

John Kramer's identity as Jigsaw was subtly revealed through his drawings before the big twist. Clues like Jigsaw's line about a disease and Zep's behavior hinted at Kramer's identity in Saw. The "x marks the spot" clue and other subtle hints in Saw add excitement to the viewing experience.

Saw has one of the best and most shocking reveals in horror history, but a big part of it was subtly spoiled much earlier, though its very easy to miss. In 2003, James Wan and Leigh Whannell made a short film titled Saw that served as the basis for what would become one of the most profitable and popular horror franchises in recent years. The short film was followed by the feature-length movie Saw, written by Whannell and directed by Wan in his feature directorial debut, which became a critical and commercial success.

Every Saw Movie Ranked, Worst To Best (Including Saw X)
Image
The Saw franchise is a blockbuster horror series though the first seven entries have been something of a mixed bag in terms of reviews from critics and audiences. Jigsaw, the 2017 reboot, struggled to capture the glory of previous Saw movies. The traps were less ingenious, and the movie moved away from the satirical nature of the original series, making it less playful. Spiral: From the Book of Saw, while lacking Tobin Bell's Jigsaw, attempted to evolve the franchise beyond a character that died six movies ago. It starts slow but goes full Saw eventually. The final twist was predictable, making it a good but not great movie.

The Saw movies rank as one of the most successful and influential horror franchises of the 21st century, although the Saw movies ranked greatly varies. Saw premiered in 2003, and the massive hit propelled filmmaker James Wan into the Hollywood mainstream. Two years...

Saw 11 Is The Perfect Chance To Bring Back The Franchise's Original Protagonist
Image
Saw XI, the upcoming sequel in the franchise, can bring back Allison Kerry, the original protagonist. Bringing back Allison Kerry would fit perfectly in the Saw timeline and expand her story. Saw XI can explore the tragedy of Saw III and add emotional depth by further exploring the Kerry-Amanda-Hoffman dynamic.

The Saw franchise will continue to expand with Saw XI, and if it follows the style of the previous movie, it will be the perfect chance to bring back the franchise’s original protagonist. In 2003, James Wan and Leigh Whannell made a short film (now known as Saw 0.5) which served to pitch the concept of what would become one of the most popular franchises in the horror genre. The saga kicked off in 2004 with Saw, which introduced the audience to John “Jigsaw” Kramer (Tobin Bell), a serial killer who trapped his victims in elaborate life-threatening situations to “test” their will to survive.

"Saw X Was A Love Letter": What Made Latest Franchise Sequel Work Explained By Previous Movie's Director
Image
Saw X is the latest installment in the Saw franchise, serving as a prequel to Saw II, and features returning cast members and new additions to the cast. The success of Saw X is attributed to the producers giving fans what they wanted, with familiar characters like Billy the Puppet and John Kramer playing prominent roles in the film. The film's nostalgic elements, focus on Kramer, and post-credits scene hint at a continuation of the franchise, with a confirmed eleventh film set to arrive in theaters in 2024.

Released in theaters on September 29, 2023, Saw X is the latest movie in the horror franchise and serves as a prequel to Saw II. Tobin Bell reprises his role as John Kramer with Shawnee Smith and Costas Mandylor also making their grand returns as Amanda Young and Detective Hoffman. In addition to bringing back familiar faces, Saw X introduced new cast members such as Synnøve Macody Lund,...

Saw X received the best reviews of the entire franchise, indicating a return to form for the series. Saw XI is set to arrive in theaters on September 27, 2024, although few details have been revealed at this time.

Following the success of the tenth movie earlier this year, Saw XI has been confirmed by Lionsgate. The Saw X Filmmakers Wanted More Practical Traps
Image
There are some people out there who will tell you the reason they like the "Saw" movies is because of the complex moral and ethical dilemmas they submerge their conflicted characters into. And that John Kramer, the most conflicted of them all, is among the most compelling villains in modern horror history -- if he's a true villain at all.

Well, I think everyone else is going to see heads smashed by blocks of ice and eyeballs sucked out of their sockets.

However you feel about the "Saw" movies, you can't deny that the decisive factor in their appeal is the blood, guts, and carnage. Tobin Bell's Kramer, known to his victims as Jigsaw, and his apprentices Amanda (Shawnee Smith) and Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) have devised all manner of dastardly traps over the years to unjustly punish mildly flawed people teach bad people big lessons. As the series has gone on,...

Saw: Is Mark Hoffman a Better Jigsaw Than John Kramer?
Image
Mark Hoffman's traps were more physically taxing and brutal compared to John Kramer's, but John's traps were technically correct and foolproof. John conceived the Jigsaw persona, and many of the traps used by his apprentices were his own conceptions. While Hoffman lasted longer as Jigsaw than John, he ignored John's philosophy and focused on disposing of his enemies rather than redeeming them.

Many have tried, but none have matched the prowess of Saw's original Jigsaw killer, John Kramer. In his years as Jigsaw, John converted many apprentices to work alongside him, studying his philosophy in the hopes that one day, one of them would surpass him to continue his legacy.

In Saw II and Saw III, much of John's work is left in the hands of Amanda Young, a drug addict who survived her trial and worshiped John as a mentor. From Saw IV until his open-ended demise in Saw 3D,...

Fun with Monsters: Looking Back at Saw V 15 Years Later
Image
No good villain is ever truly gone, especially in horror movies. This September saw the return of Tobin Bell as John Kramer, a.k.a. “Jigsaw,” the trap-making serial killer of the Saw movies, with the release of Saw X. This is despite the fact that Kramer has been dead since the end of Saw III, which came out back in 2006. But a little thing like death never stopped the Saw franchise. Instead of literally bringing Kramer back from the dead, the subsequent sequels continued Bell’s participation with devices like flashbacks. Hell, even Saw IV played a trick on audiences by staging a lot of its action at the same time as Saw III.

One of those post-Kramer sequels celebrates its 15th anniversary this year: Saw V, which featured Costas Mandylor as Detective Mark Hoffman, a murderous cop who became Jigsaw’s protégé and continued his campaign of bloodshed.

‘Bloodthirst’ (2023) Ending Explained & Movie Summary: Did John Slay The Master Vampire?
Image
Michael Su’s 2023 film, Bloodthirst, is about a vampire hunter who earns his bread slaying vampires in a post-apocalyptic world. This world is overrun by vampires and is controlled mainly by two factions, who are always at war. As for humans, they remain few in number. As a result, both factions of the blood-sucking beasts are on the brink of extinction, owing to both starvation and the growing threat of vampire hunters who’ll do anything to free this world from these demons. The vampires, on the flip side, often infiltrate human populations in large numbers to drain them of their blood and increase their numbers. As a fallout, they are in continuous dispute with their human counterparts. Those who’re lucky die, and those who aren’t, usually end up joining their flock. They aren’t like the usual vampires we see in the movies, who only poke at night to fill their bellies.

‘Bloodthirst’ Review
Image
Stars: Costas Mandylor, Robert Lasardo, Tara Reid, Wesley Cannon, Sarah French, Elissa Dowling, Bishop Stevens | Written by Adrian Milnes, Massimiliano Cerchi | Directed by Michael Su

Bloodthirst is from the folks at Mahal Empire, last year they gave us their version of the zombie apocalypse, Bridge of the Doomed. This year they’re revisiting the apocalypse, only in Bloodthirst the threat comes from a different strain of the undead, vampires. Interestingly, both films were directed by Michael Su and written by Adrian Milnes this time with a story credit to Massimiliano Cerchi

In the world of Bloodthirst two factions of vampires fight for control of what’s left of the planet. What’s left of humanity is caught in the middle and rapidly heading for extinction, something that would doom the vampires as well. John Shepard walks that world as a vampire hunter who’s on the trail of The Master Vampire.

8 Characters Saw 11 Needs To Bring Back In New Prequel Story
Image
The future of the Saw franchise is likely to involve more prequel movies, which could further explore the stories of key characters like John Kramer, Amanda Young, and Mark Hoffman. Saw X set the stage for Saw 11 by leaving open the possibility for more installments and introducing characters who could return from the dead. The timeline still has gaps that can be explored. Saw 11 should bring back familiar faces like John Kramer, Amanda Young, Mark Hoffman, Jill Tuck, Allison Kerry, Lawrence Gordon, Eric Matthews, and Logan Nelson to add depth to their stories and set up future events in the franchise.

The future of the Saw franchise looks to be more prequel movies, and there are some major characters Saw 11 needs to bring back in that event. Saw X took the franchise in a new direction by focusing squarely on John Kramer, but it was the movie's prequel setting that...

Saw X Cinematographer Talks Recreating Original Feel & Bringing Back Iconic Franchise Visuals
Image
Warning: Spoilers lie ahead for Saw X!

Cinematographer Nick Matthews was hired to work on Saw X due to his previous work in gritty films and music videos, not necessarily horror. Matthews was a fan of the Saw franchise growing up and felt a deep connection to the movies and their impact on culture and cinema. Matthews praised director Kevin Greutert's methodical and collaborative approach, and their goal was to bring back the original feel and visuals of the early Saw movies while still adding their own unique touch.

The Jigsaw franchise is back and better than ever with Saw X. The latest horror sequel sees Tobin Bell returns as John Kramer just weeks after the original movie as he is diagnosed with terminal brain cancer with only months to live. After being conned by a group of scammers into believing he was cured with an experimental medical procedure,...

Saw X Smartly Avoids A Fatal Returning Character Mistake Almost Every Other Franchise Falls For
Image
Warning: Contains Spoilers for Saw X!

Saw X smartly brings back familiar characters without making the mistake of de-aging them, allowing their stories to continue naturally in a prequel setting. De-aging technology would have been distracting and costly for Saw X, making it a smart decision not to use it. By letting audiences overlook the age differences of the returning cast, Saw X avoids the risks and potential negative effects of de-aging technology.

There are several returning characters in Saw X from previous movies, but the movie smartly avoids a fatal mistake with them. For the tenth installment in a franchise, it should come as no surprise that Saw X features a few familiar faces. Movie franchises are largely built on audiences knowing existing characters and staying invested in the story to see how they individually progress. This is why one of the most exciting aspects of Saw X was...
