Older brother Bhanu was Gulshan Grover's secretary. Bhanu later married Gulshan Grovers ex wife Filomina. Bhanu acted in the film Naamcheen (1991) which Mandakini was originally producing at and acting in.

In 1986, Mandakini released a pop disco album with Bappi Lahiri. It was titled "Dancing City". She sang all the songs in her own voice in the album. The album was originally recorded with Nazia Hassan. After Bappi and Nazia had a major showdown, Bappi signed Mandakini and dubbed Mandakini's voice over Nazia Hassan's.

Younger brother received a lot of offers to act in the 1990's. His name is Rustom Joseph.

They each took their respective initials and got "A (Ajit),M (Mandakini),A (Aditya). "A.M.A. Productions". They launched the film Naam Cheen. It was then Mandakini had problems with Ajit over money. Ajit and Aditya replaced her from the film without informing her. They even completed the film without Mandakini knowing. Mandakini was awaiting the announcement of the shooting. Mandakini felt cheated by Aditya for not informing her.

Was engaged to a man named Aslam Khan. He played a villain in one of her films.

Mandakini first signed the film Mazloon before Ram Tere Ganga Malin. Producer Ranjit Virk gave her the screen name "Madhuri". She later decided to used "Mandakini" because Raj Kapoor named her that.

Before Ram Teri Ganga Meli 1985 was to debut with Kumar Gaurav in a film.After success of Love Story 1981,Kumar Gaurav refused to work with any other newcomer as he only wanted Vijayta Pandit.
