Malik’s directorial debut, ecological drama “Jal” (2013), was in Busan’s New Currents competition. His sophomore feature, refugee and sports themed “Torbaaz” (2020), headlined by Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt, was a Netflix original film.

Mumbai, Dec 8 (Ians) Rahul Dev plays a pivotal role in the upcoming Sanjay Dutt-starrer Torbaaz. He says the film is primarily about a battle of ideologies of two perspectives in a war-torn situation that is ruining the future generation.

"It is an interesting story and I watched a BBC documentary as part of preparation for my role. My character is an Afghan leader who has become an extremist. He is a man who has a battle of ideology with the protagonist of the film, played by Sanjay Dutt. But it is not a physical fight or action. It is the difference between two ideologies rather than one playing villain," Rahul told Ians.

Set against the backdrop of political conflict in Afghanistan, the film revolves around children in Afghan refugee camps who are being trained to become suicide bombers, and how their childhood has been snatched away by endless war and genocide.

New Delhi, Dec 4 (Ians) Cinema theatres have opened, but all the remaining films of the year were already sold to various Ott platforms during lockdown. Mumbai, Nov 21 (Ians) Actor Sanjay Dutt says he is grateful for the love and support he has received over the past few months, adding that he is excited to be back on screen.

Back in August, it was revealed that the actor has been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment. In October, Dutt shared a health update saying he has come out victorious in his battle with the disease.

Having won the National Award for Visual effects, Girish Malik’s Jal has added yet another feather in its cap. The movie which stars Purab H Kohli, Kirti Kulhari, Tannishtha Chatterjee has been shortlisted in the list of 114 scores from eligible feature-length motion pictures released in 2014 which are in contention for nominations in the Original Score category. Mumbai, April 17: Actor Purab Kohli says his next project with director Girish Malik will go on the floors towards the end of the year.

Mumbai, March 28: Actress Kirti Kulhari, who is busy promoting her forthcoming movie "Jal", says it's not an art film but a complete Bollywood masala entertainer.

Mumbai, March 20: Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani has unveiled the music of Girish Malik's forthcoming film "Jal" here.

The film's debut music director duo - singer Sonu Nigam and percussionist-tabla maestro Bickram Ghosh, performed at the event held Wednesday night.

"When Bickram and I decided to turn music directors, it was very clear that though there were many films from which we could choose from, what we would only associate with would be a film with a strong script and which has music as an integral part," Sonu said in a statement.

"When it came to 'Jal', the choice was thus natural! Not just were we both.

OneWorld Films unveiled the much awaited first look and theatrical trailer of Girish Malik’s “Jal” at a special function this week. Dar Film Distributors (Dfd), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Dar Media, will distribute Jal directed by Girish Malik. The film is scheduled for release in India on March 21, 2014.

Jal was selected in the New Currents section at Busan International Film Festival 2013 and was recently screened in Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India (Iffi), Goa.

The film stars Purab Kohli, Kirti Kulhari, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Saidah Jules, Mukul Dev, Yashpal Sharma and Ravi Gossain amongst others.

Jal revolves around a young man who is gifted with a special ability to find water in the desert. With the backdrop of water scarcity, the film tells a complex story of love, relationships, enmity and deceit.

New Delhi, Jan 7: Girish Malik's "Jal", which has been shot across the picturesque Rann of Kutch, will set sail for its theatrical journey in the country March 21.

OneWorld Films Tuesday announced that they have aligned with Dar Film Distributors for the India distribution of the internationally acclaimed Hindi feature film.

For Malik, it was important to choose the right distributor for the project, which he calls a "content driven entertainer".

"The film is called 'Jal', but the plot is about human interaction in all its honesty, albeit told in a very commercially entertaining way laced with rib-tickling good.

After being screened at the Busan Film Festival where Jal were the sole Indian entry in competition, the film directed by Girish Malik has now managed to find a place in the prestigious Indian Panorama section of Iffi (International Film Festival of India), Goa.

Iffi attracts reputed Indian and international film personalities and major companies involved in world cinema from all over the world every year.

"Iffi has been doing a great job providing that bridge by means of the festival where you can meet & showcase your film to international buyers & renowned names from across the globe. Post the wonderful Busan experience, I could not think of anything better. It's another high to be recognized by your own people in your own country. I am truly touched and honored. Malayalam film Kanyaka Talkies by K. R. Manoj will open the feature film category while Kamal Swaroop’s Rangbhoomi will open the non-feature category of Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India (Iffi) 2013.

Indian Panorama will screen 26 Feature films and 16 Non-Feature films.

The jury for Feature films, headed by filmmaker and editor B. Lenin, selected 25 films out of a total of 210 eligible entries. Paan Singh Tomar by Tigmanshu Dhulia which won the Best Feature Film award at the 60th National Film Awards has been selected by virtue of direct entry.

The Non-Feature films Jury, chaired by director Raja Sen, picked 15 films out of 130 eligible entries. Kashmiri film Shepherds of Paradise directed by Raja Shabir Khan which won Best Non – Feature Film award at the 60th National Film Awards has also been selected by virtue of direct entry.

Mumbai, Sep 28: Indian film "Jal", which will be showcased in the New Currents section at the forthcoming Busan International Film Festival (Biff) in South Korea will appeal to the critics and masses alike, says its director Girish Malik.

"'Jal' is an artistic yet very entertaining film that will find a connect with the critics as well as the masses. It is a high octane epic entertainer," Malik said in a statement.

The New Currents section at Biff, which will be held Oct 3-12, introduces the works of up-and-coming directors who are leading the way for Asian cinema. Malik's debut feature is one among the twelve entries.

Thirteen Indian films have been selected to screen at the 18th edition of the Busan International Film Festival to be held from October 3 to 12, 2013.

The opening film Vara: A Blessing directed by Buddhist monk Khyentse Norbu is set in India and revolves around a young woman and her mother, a temple dancer wed to a Hindu God, who find themselves on the fringes of society. The film is based on a short story by Sunil Gangopadhyay and features Indian actor Shahana Goswami in the lead role.

New Delhi, May 20: It will be a double bonanza for actress Tannishtha Chatterjee at the ongoing 66th Cannes International Film Festival as the theatrical promo of her another film "Jal" will be unveiled there.

India is the guest country at the festival and "Jal" will be unveiled at the India Pavillion.

She has gone there to represent her movie "Monsoon Shootout", but will also be present at the unveiling of "Jal" promo, which is based on scarcity of water in Rann of Kutch, Gujarat.
