- The first Indian designer to launch an NFT collection, Malhotra introduced a series of digital assets featuring sketches and GIFs of couture pieces worn by Bollywood icons.
- Malhotra became the first recipient of the Filmfare Award for Best Costume Design, a new category introduced after his work in Rangeela (1995).
- Malhotra has styled international stars such as Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Zayn Malik, Reese Witherspoon, Kylie Minogue, Hillary Clinton and supermodels Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, in addition to Bollywood legends.
- He debuted as a costume designer in Bollywood with the 1990 film Swarg, starring Rajesh Khanna, Govinda, and Juhi Chawla, and later gained significant attention after styling Sridevi in Gumrah (1993) and Rangeela (1995).
- In August 2016, Malhotra's show for Lakme Fashion Week's Winter-Festive edition was shot for a Virtual Reality fashion experience by Etihad Airways. The Virtual Reality video was released earlier in January 2017 at Etihad's Innovation Centre in Abu Dhabi. He also worked with Google on launch promotions for 'G Suite' - a set of intelligent apps designed for modern professionals.
