After waiting patiently for five years, 2025 will be the year that finally sees the Netflix action sequel The Old Guard 2 released. With a release date now revealed, director Victoria Mahoney has now teased “bigger and bolder” action in the long-awaited follow-up. Which, considering fans have been left waiting so long, is the least that it should deliver.
"My mandate every time we went out the door to scout was; I do not want to visit any locations, routinely seen as an audience member in a number of my favorite films. I relentlessly pushed toward the unexpected."
As well as building on the action of the first movie, The Old Guard 2 will also build on the characters and story, with Mahoney explaining how the pandemic helped strengthen her passion for Andy and her band of immortal warriors.

Charlize Theron’s immortal mercenary Andy will return in The Old Guard 2 on Netflix. Nearly five years after the first film, the streamer has finally announced a release date for the film. The first film, The Old Guard, was released in 2020 and was a viewership hit for Netflix. The critical acclaim and popularity of the film resulted in a sequel being greenlit.
According to reports, the sequel starring Theron completed filming in 2022, but it went to development hell due to a delay in post-production. Despite the troubles, Theron was confident that her film would see the light of day. Last year, she announced that the film had resumed its post-production works.

Despite the chaos of a global pandemic and impending presidential elections, The Old Guard was one of Netflix's biggest releases in 2020. Based on the graphic novel by Greg Rucka, the film followed a group of centuries-old immortals dedicated to helping others — an undeniably appealing pitch in the current socio-political climate. But when the secret of their existence is discovered, the group must evade capture and fight to protect themselves, all while training the newest addition to their squad along the way. Starring Charlize Theron (with her best haircut since Atomic Blonde) as Andromache the Scythian, alongside an ensemble cast including KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, and Luca Marinelli, The Old Guard is a surprisingly heartwarming and compellingly gory action flick — complete with a cliffhanger ending that has left audiences on the edge of their seats for five years and counting.

Directed by Roar Uthaug, the Norwegian creature feature Troll was another success for Netflix when it was released in December 2022. Both of those movies are now getting sequels that are expected to reach Netflix by the end of 2025, when The Old Guard 2 heading for a July 2nd release and Troll 2 not yet having a release date – and Netflix decided to start building the hype for both of them today, releasing a clip from Troll 2 that can be seen in the embed above and a behind-the-scenes look at the stunts of The Old Guard 2, which can be found at the bottom of this article.

Netflix released behind-the-scenes footage of The Old Guard 2 featuring the insane number of stunts from the highly-anticipated sequel. Updated: Welcome to the West Coast. NBC has dropped the first trailer for Suits spinoff Suits LA which opens with Stephen Amell’s Ted Black getting hit with an insult right off the bat.
“You don’t represent me. I need someone with confidence. And you just seem a little sheepish to me.” That’s followed with an emphatic Ted asserting he’s ‘the best attorney in the country.”
With the move to the West Coast, Ted warns, “It’s different out here. People lie. They cheat. They do whatever they can to win,” as we see shots of people breaking things in offices, fighting and apparently taking a bribe. The clip concludes with a quick shot of a photo of Gabriel Macht’s Harvey Specter.
Macht teased his upcoming role on the spinoff back in November on Instagram, writing “When an old friend is in need…it’s time...

The Charlize Theron action film The Old Guard was a hit for the Netflix streaming service when it was released in 2020, but the sequel The Old Guard 2 has had an unexpectedly bumpy ride while making its way out into the world. It went into production back in 2022, and filming had to be halted briefly after a fire broke out at the film studio where the movie had been shooting; Rome, Italy’s historic Cinecittà Studios. Then there was a shake-up at Netflix during post-production, so the project got shut down for a while – and even though Theron was quoted as saying that it was back on track and coming soon last summer, it turns out that we’re going to have to keep waiting, because there are still reshoots to do. What’s on Netflix reported that The Old Guard 2 was supposed to undergo additional photography last October,...

Exclusive: Larry Clark, the filmmaker behind the Harmony Korine-scripted Kids and Brad Renfro starrer Bully, has come aboard the music documentary It Was Them, from filmmakers Edgar Morais (Heatstroke) and Luke Eberl (Choose Connor), as an executive producer.
Currently in production, It Was Them is a portrait of the highs and lows of Jonathan Velasquez, Eddie Velasquez, Frank Navarrette and Carlos Ramirez, a group of musically talented Indigenous-Latino friends from South Central L.A. who look to find their footing as immigrants in the foreign and labyrinthic streets of Paris. The film spans over a decade in the lives of the nomads and features an original soundtrack written and performed by the subjects.
In addition to co-directing, Morais has contributed writing to the film and is producing alongside Eberl. The U.S.-Portugal-German co-production’s team also includes producers Sol Tryon, Rodrigo Areias, and co-producers Andre Hörmann and Max Milhahn.
Morais and Eberl previously collaborated on the award-winning narrative short We Won’t Forget, in which a woman’s frustrations boil to the surface while hosting a party for her friends, culminating in a public freak-out that turns into collective hysteria. The short screened at over 25 festivals worldwide, including the Oscar-qualifying Palm Springs ShortFest, and was selected as Short of the Week and Vimeo Staff Pick. It also won various awards, including the Grand Jury Prize and award for Best Editing at the Castrovillari Film Festival, and was nominated for a Portuguese Academy Award for Best Short Film. Prior to It Was Them, Morais and Eberl also collaborated on music videos for bands such as Mothxr and the Grammy-nominated Shiny Toy Guns.
A filmmaker, photographer and actor, Morais’ directorial debut, the short film Heatstroke, won the CinEuphoria award for Best Screenplay. As an actor, he has worked with directors such as Teresa Sutherland, Victoria Mahoney, and Tiago Guedes in films that have screened at Cannes, Venice, Fantasia, Gothenburg, Vila do Conde, and Rotterdam.
Also an actor-filmmaker, Eberl’s feature directorial debut, Choose Connor, was released theatrically and on video by Strand Releasing following a successful festival run. That film followed an idealistic 15-year old who accepted the opportunity to serve as the youth spokesman for a U.S. Senate candidate, only to be exploited in a fierce campaign of TV and radio ads, posters, interviews, and speaking engagements. As an actor, he’s worked with directors such as Tim Burton, Alfonso Arau, Vincent Paterson, Peter Hoar, and Clint Eastwood.
Known for his unflinching explorations of youth culture, addiction, and rebellion, Clark first gained recognition with Tulsa, a book of photography documenting teenage drug use and disaffected lifestyles in his hometown. He transitioned to filmmaking with the iconic drama Kids, chronicling the lives of teenagers in New York City, which became a cultural flashpoint in 1995. Other works from the filmmaker include Bully, as well as Ken Park, Another Day in Paradise, Wassup Rockers, Marfa Girls, and The Smell of Us.
Morais is repped by Eleven Dot Eight, Middleweek Newton Talent Management, and Robert Stein Management; Eberl by Phoenix Artists, Blue Ridge Entertainment, and Hit Management.

The Old Guard 2 is set for yet more reshoots, nearly three years after the film was originally shot. More here.
RememberThe Old Guard? It came out back in 2020 during those pandemic days when most of us found ourselves watching more movies at home. Perhaps partly due to that unique sitation (or parhaps not), the Charlize Theron-starring actioner amassed over 70 million views in its first month of release and given that the film was clearly intended as a franchise starter, a follow-up was duly commissioned and shot back in mid-2022.
Uma Thurman and Henry Golding join Theron and Kiki Layne for the sequel.
Since then, however, things have continued to be pretty turbulent, not least for Netflix’s film division, which has undergone a major shake-up. Scott Stuber, an executive who was known for throwing cash at expensive projects – such as Zack Snyder’s brace of Rebel Moon films – has since left.

The new legal drama will feature a whole new cast of characters at its Californian law firm, the core cast being Ted Black (Stephen Amell), Stuart Lane (Josh McDermitt), Erica Rollins (Lexi Scott Davis), and Rick Dodsen (Bryan Greenberg). While the creator, who also made Suits, didn't say much about how the two shows will connect further, he emphasized a core connection between "the history of the characters" in both shows. Macht announced his return in an Instagram post on Wednesday that showed up “suiting up” for his return. “When an old friend is in need … it’s time to take care of things and make those very ‘things’ right,” he said in a caption.

Despite the first The Old Guard outing being released way back in 2020, and a sequel being announced shortly after, fans are still waiting for the action movie to arrive on Netflix. Thankfully, one of the returning stars, Luca Marinelli, who starred in the first outing as immortal warrior Nicky a.k.a. Nicol di Genova, has offered a promising update on the comic book movie follow-up, calling it really cool.
Based on the graphic novel by writer Greg Rucka, The Old Guard follows a group of mercenaries. But this is no ordinary group of mercenaries, they are all centuries-old immortals with the ability to heal themselves. The first movie centers on the group as they discover that someone is onto their secret, forcing them to fight to protect their freedom. When it was announced that Charlize Theron’s The Old Guard sequel had wrapped up filming all the way back in October 2022, fans were hopeful of getting to witness the movie unfold before them in 2024 (as was initially planned).
Yet fate had other plans in store for the movie directed by Victoria Mahoney, as it found itself in dire straits soon after it went into production, leading some fans to worry that they had seen the last of Charlize Theron’s Andy.

One of Hollywood's most beloved action movie stars is set to throw down in the upcoming film, Ballerina Overdrive.
According to Deadline, Uma Thurman has joined the cast for Ballerina Overdrive, an upcoming independent action film directed by Vicky Jewson. Kate Freund penned the script for Ballerina Overdrive, which reportedly will center around "a troupe of ballerinas who find themselves fighting for survival as they attempt to escape from a remote inn after their bus breaks down on the way to a dance competition." Thurman will star alongside Lana Condor (Jubilee in X-Men: Apocalypse), Iris Apatow (Funny People), Millicent Simmonds (A Quiet Place), Maddie Ziegler (The Fallout) and Avantika (Senior Year).

Are ballerina dancers Hollywood’s new hotness? With the John Wick spinoff Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, pirouetting into theaters next year and the latest indie action film Ballerina Overdrive coming from 87North and Gulfstream Pictures, it could be time for me to slip into a tutu and show my sweet moves to some studios heads. While I will likely keep stretching along a long bar, Uma Thurman is joining the cast of Ballerina Overdrive, an upcoming survivalist action film.

“Suits: L.A.” has started production in, you guessed it, Los Angeles.
The “Suits” spin-off series has moved filming locations from Vancouver, where the NBC procedural first shot its pilot, to Los Angeles. Production is currently underway on the new series, which stars Stephen Amell as a former federal prosecutor who shifts his clientele as he moves to the West Coast.
The official logline is as follows: “Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York, has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point and to survive, he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives.”

It's been just over four years since Gina Prince-Bythewood's action-packed film adaptation of Greg Rucka's "The Old Guard" comic was released on Netflix, and there have been rumblings about a potential sequel — and maybe even a third entry in the franchise — almost since the first movie debuted. That film, which was about a group of immortal warriors led by Charlize Theron, is one of the best Netflix original action movies the streamer has ever produced. That may sound like damning with faint praise, but I legitimately enjoyed the movie; it's a great showcase for Theron both physically and emotionally, Kiki Layne did a great job as the audience surrogate character, and the action is crisp and well-executed.
There was a flurry of updates about "The Old Guard 2" back in 2021 and 2022, but since then, there's been relative silence about the project, leading many to wonder if the sequel...

According to TVLine, the Suits spinoff, Suits: L.A. has been officially ordered by NBC. Starring Stephen Amell, the series has not set a premiere date; however, a source is noting that if it doesn’t debut in early mid-season 2025, it will be by the 2025/2026 schedule.
“Suits: L.A.”: The Spinoff Is All Thanks To Netflix
An announcement was made in October of last year that there were talks of a new Suits spinoff thanks to the resurging popularity of the old series that garnered attention once it began streaming on Netflix.
Suits: L.A. will be the second spinoff from the Og series. For those that recall, the short-lived show, Pearson, ran for one season on USA Network in 2019 and followed Jessica Pearson, who was played by Gina Torres.

Fans of the immortal mercenary movie “The Old Guard” have been eagerly awaiting news about the sequel for over three years now. The first film was a huge hit for Netflix when it came out in 2020, with over 72 million households watching it in the first four weeks! Work on the follow-up movie has hit some bumps, but it seems like things are finally wrapping up.
Charlize Theron, who plays Andy the leader of the group, talked about the delays at an event recently. She said Netflix went through some big changes while they were working on the sequel. “Our post-production literally shut down after only five weeks of work,” Theron explained. But don’t worry – the actress assured fans that filming and editing are back on track. “We finally got it going again and I’m really excited for everyone to see it,” she said.

The last update on The Old Guard 2 was the realization that Netflix doesn't appear to be moving forward with plans to release the sequel in 2024, despite the fact the filming wrapped on the project over a year ago.
When the streamer released a sizzle reel highlighting all of the new shows and movies hitting the platform in 2024, footage from The Old Guard 2 was conspicuously absent.
In a recent interview with Variety, the film's star, Charlize Theron, revealed that Netflix halted post-production work on the sequel but she's confident that the film will eventually be released.
Said Theron, "Netflix went through quite a changeover. We got kind of stuck in that and our post-production shut down, I think, five weeks into it. They were going through a lot of changes, and I totally understand it. We finally picked it back up and I’m really excited about it. It’s really good.

NBC has picked up its two outstanding pilots to series, the hourlong Suits: L.A., starring Stephen Amell, and Grosse Pointe Garden Society. However, it has not been determined yet whether any of them will premiere during the 2024-25 seasons.
NBC already has two new drama and two new comedy series set for next season, dramas Brilliant Minds and The Hunting Party which, like Grosse Pointe Garden Society, originated as a writers room commission in February 2023, as well as comedies St. Denis Medical and the Reba McEntire-led Happy’s Place.
Along with the pickups, NBC has released first-look images for Suits: L.A. and Grosse Pointe Garden Society. You can see them below.
As Deadline reported last month, both pilots had come in solid and looking good for an order.

The world of Suits is officially getting larger.
NBC has given a series order to Suits: LA, a spinoff of/companion show to the former USA Network series-turned-streaming juggernaut. The network has also picked up Grosse Pointe Garden Society, a murder mystery from the team behind Good Girls.
NBC hasn’t scheduled either show yet, but it’s conceivable they could be ready for the second half of the 2024-25 season. Crime drama The Hunting Party is currently the only midseason scripted series on tap for the network.

The Old Guard 2 finally gets a new and encouraging progress update from star Charlize Theron. The Oscar-winning actor suggests the film may still see the light of day after news of the sequel's release went dark.
Speaking with Variety at a charity event, Theron revealed that The Old Guard sequel, which wrapped principal photography in 2022, faced a lengthy delay due partly to Netflix's changing leadership structure. Coupled with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, The Old Guard 2's post-production process faced multiple issues. Netflix went through quite a changeover, Theron said. The sequel film completed filming in 2022, but a delay in post-production work halted the film’s progress. Theron is confident in the project and shared that it would soon hit the screens.

The Old Guard 2 is one film that the actress looks forward to in her future filmography. It is also possible that the films could be made into a trilogy, with the second film leaving scope for a third potential film. Interestingly, she has less hope for her Marvel return as she revealed that she hadn’t gotten a call from the studio.

Then there was a shake-up at Netflix during post-production, so the project got shut down for a while – but Theron has told Variety that The Old Guard 2 is now back on track and coming soon.
Theron said, “Netflix went through quite a changeover. We got kind of stuck in that and our post-production shut down, I think, five weeks into it. They were going through a lot of changes, and I totally understand it.

Oscar winner and Mad Max: Fury Road star Charlize Theron has teased the long-awaited release of the Netflix action sequel, The Old Guard 2, declaring that it is coming soon. The first The Old Guard was a major hit for the streamer when it was released back in 2020, and while the follow-up completed filming in 2022, we have all been waiting ever since for it to debut. Charlize Theron says The Old Guard 2 is still coming, but changes at Netflix appear to have held up the movie’s release.
After the success of the first film, starring Charlize Theron, Netflix quickly gave the greenlight to The Old Guard 2. Victoria Mahoney has directed the action thriller sequel, which co-stars KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Uma Thurman among others.
The movie completed photography nearly two years ago now, with production wrapping in September 2022. Since then though, it’s been pretty much radio silence. Netflix has been uncharacteristically mum about the movie, and there’s been no sign of a trailer, a bunch of promo pictures, or a release date.
Charlize Theron has given a new interview where the absence of The Old Guard 2 has been raised, and she tells Variety that the film is still on its way. “We got kind of stuck in...

Charlize Theron insists “The Old Guard 2” will be released “soon.”
The Oscar winner explains that the action sequel, which wrapped shooting about two years ago, has faced a lengthy delay due in part to a change in Netflix leadership. “Netflix went through quite a changeover,” Theron told me at her Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project Block Party on Saturday. “We got kind of stuck in that and our post-production shut down, I think, five weeks into it.”
The actors and writers strikes are also said to have kept the film from being on schedule. Even so, Theron never worried that the movie could be shelved.
“They were going through a lot of changes, and I totally understand it,” she said. “We finally picked it back up and I’m really excited about it.”
The first “Old Guard” was released in 2020, with the streamer announcing that it reached 72 million households in its first four weeks.

Emily Blunt is just one more on the absurdly lengthy list of people who adore Charlize Theron. The former’s heartfelt admission of admiration for her delightful The Huntsman: Winter’s War co-star is the epitome of Tinseltown girl crushes —and it’s utterly infectious!
It’s not just Blunt & Theron’s fans who are in awe; even Blunt’s husband, the ever-witty John Krasinski, jested about joining the admiration train. And let’s not forget Theron’s flirty response, teasing a meeting with Blunt in the “back valley”, topping off this delightful exchange with a dash of banter.
