    • John Lee Mahin was born on August 23, 1902 in Evanston, Illinois, USA. He was a writer and producer, known for Scarface (1932), Capitaines courageux (1937) and Dieu seul le sait (1957). He was married to Muriel Mae McKinnon, Barbara Ann Bonnett, Patsy Ruth Miller and Nancy Hume Derr. He died on April 18, 1984 in Santa Monica, California, USA.

  • Studied journalism at Harvard and first worked as a film critic for Hearst's Boston American. He lost this job after harsh reviews of Hearst's mistress and protégé Marion Davies.
  • He was a friend and frequent collaborator of director Victor Fleming. They worked on ten films together.
  • American screenwriter, who spent most of his career at MGM, (1932 to 1941, and 1950-53), later free-lancing. He was a favorite of actor Clark Gable and director Victor Fleming. One of the founders of the Screenwriter's Guild in 1933, who honoured him with a Laurel Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1957.
  • Known for his outspoken conservatism during the McCarthy era.
  • Formed a production company with writer Martin Rackin in 1959.
