One Planet of the Apes movie has surged on Prime Video. The sci-fi drama franchise originated in 1968 and has launched several installments. However, while Planet of the Apes garnered praise, early sequels were less successful in comparison. Having remained part of popular culture, a new film series revolving around Caesar (portrayed by Andy Serkis) premiered in 2011.
The Planet of the Apes reboot has compelled audiences since debuting, featuring impressive visual effects and action sequences. The various entries have also become major critical and commercial hits. The first movie, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, earned more than $481 million globally and amassed a large fanbase.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes were subsequently released. Both movies were directed by Matt Reeves and set box office highs for the franchise, generating over $710 million and $490 million, respectively.

When Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville launched on Fox in 2017, many dismissed it as a Star Trek spoof. However, viewers soon found the show was an homage to Trek which stood on its own feet. At the recent Indiana Comic Convention, longtime Trek veteran Jonathan Frakes — who played Riker in The Next Generation before going on to direct many episodes of other series — explained the credentials behind the show’s pedigree.
As part of a Star Trek: The Next Generation panel — featuring Frakes, Brent Spiner, and Denise Crosby — a fan asked the stars about their opinion of The Orville. Frakes was quick to praise the critically acclaimed show, highlighting the love with which MacFarlane created the space drama.

Ever since The Orville wrapped up its third season all the way back in 2022, we've been dying for news of a follow-up. Dubbed The Orville: New Horizons, season 3 was such a step above everything that had come before that it was mind-blowing. Not only was it a great season of Seth MacFarlane's comedic sci-fi drama, it was also just one of the all-around best seasons of science fiction television of that year. Alas, it was also a big, expensive season of television that took more than two years to produce, and Hulu did not rush to give season 4 the green light.
But hope has remained alive for the past several years. Whenever The Orville comes up in interviews, its cast has kept that torch burning. Lead star and general creative force behind the series Seth MacFarlane (Ed Mercer) reassured fans in early 2024 that "the show is not dead," and...

Seth MacFarlane's The Orville has received high praise from Star Trek: The Next Generation actor Jonathan Frakes. A fan asked him about the parody series at this year's Indiana Comic Convention.
Reported by Collider, a fan asked Frakes, who played William Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation, his thoughts about Seth MacFarlane's beloved series. The Orville both parodies and pays homage to Star Trek and the Next Generation eras, while also taking inspiration from Star Wars to tell a sci-fi comedy story, with the crew of its space-ship going on serialized adventures. Frakes spoke highly of both MacFarlane and his work, saying, "Seth MacFarlane is arguably our biggest celebrity fan."
One of the reasons Frakes had such nice things to say about The Orville was due to the way MacFarlane utilized Star Trek veteran creatives for the series. "He hired Brannon Braga, who worked on a lot of our best stuff.

Wes Ball's continuation of the Planet of the Apes franchise, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, earned an Academy Award nomination this year for Best Visual Effects, alongside other majorly talented nominees, for their innovative combination of CG and live-action. This sprawling epic had the task of bridging the Caesar Trilogy to the original 1968 film and included more talking apes" than the movies before, as well as "33 minutes of 100% full CG." To pull this off, Ball collaborated with the top of their profession, with a team from Wētā Workshop and a stellar ensemble cast featuring Owen Teague, Kevin Durand, Frey Allan, and Peter Macon.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball has now revealed that the sequel, which will no doubt opt for an even longer title, is now being discussed. And could be the best movie in his planned Planet of the Apes trilogy. Released last year, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes continues to explore the ever-emerging titular world ruled over by our simian brethren. Met with both positive reviews and a modest box office return, updates on the follow-up have been scarce, but Ball has now confirmed that talks are happening.
Speaking with Collider, Ball teased the “cool places” and multiple ideas he has in mind for the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes sequel. And while he keeps things close to his chest, he reveals that there are several clues that audiences may have missed in the first movie...

It's not surprising that a show created by Seth MacFarlane would feature big name stars, and his Star Trek homage The Orville is certainly packed with celebrity appearances, from Charlize Theron to Ted Danson. But there’s a huge Hollywood star whose cameo in the second season may have passed you by.
In the seventh episode of season 2, "Deflectors," an envoy from the planet Moclus comes aboard the Orville to escort one of their top engineers, Locar (Kevin Daniels), who is there to help the ship's engineering team upgrade its deflectors. This makes things awkward for the Orville crew member Bortus (Peter Macon), another Moclan and Locar's ex.
And Bortus isn’t the only crew member having troubles with failed love affairs. Having ended a relationship with on-board teacher Cassius (Chris Johnson) at the start of the episode, First Commander Kelly Grayson (Adrienne Palicki) finds herself the recipient of a...

Resident Alien stands out as a tasty blend of quirky humor, offbeat storytelling, and heartfelt moments amidst its sci-fi backdrop – and there are more shows like it out there. Resident Alien stars Alan Tudyk as Harry Vanderspeigle, a flawed, genocidal alien who poses as a small-town Colorado doctor and eventually becomes sympathetic to the human cause.
The show dives into everything from offbeat human interactions to larger existential matters. Whether it’s the off-kilter small-town atmosphere, clever humor, or supernatural storylines, there are a handful of sci-fi comedy shows that capture a similar balance likely to tick all the right boxes with Resident Alien viewers.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes wouldn’t seem to owe an obvious debt to the films of James Cameron. But key special effects in the latest simian adventure couldn’t have happened without Weta FX’s creations for the Oscar-winning Avatar: The Way of Water.
“The Water Solver we used came off the back of that movie and had a good half-dozen years of concentrated research and development into water simulation. So coming into the project, that was one of the aspects of this film that I wasn’t as concerned about,” says visual effects supervisor Erik Winquist.
While the building blocks for the effects were there, pulling off director Wes Ball’s vision required “a different mix” of the water itself. “The ferocity and turbulence of the water is very different from what was done with Avatar. Last year, it was announced that Nintendo and Arad Productions were in the process of making a live-action movie based on the iconic video game franchise The Legend of Zelda, with Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes director Wes Ball at the helm. The Legend of Zelda is a classic fantasy tale where a young swordsman named Link fights the forces of evil to save the Princess Zelda and Kingdom of Hyrule; the details change a bit with each game, but the overall story remains more or less the same. Zelda is a long-running video game series that's been around since the 1986, and its fans are legion. Suffice to say, the announcement of a movie was a big deal.

Some comedy shows take a while to get into their rhythm, but others manage to hook their audiences from the very first episode. It can take writers and actors some time to find the comedic flavor of a new show. Comedy relies so much on chemistry and timing that a perfect comedic pilot is rare. These things can take a long time to build up. However, some hilarious shows capture lightning in a bottle from their first outing.
There are many great comedy shows which started off a little slowly. Seinfeld, for example, has an odd first season that doesn't quite nail the comedic rhythms that the show is known for, and The Office takes some time to distinguish itself from its British counterpart. Not all comedy shows suffer from the same affliction, however. Shows like Futurama, How I Met Your Mother and Derry Girls hit the ground running.

It sounds like audiences will once again return to the Planet of the Apes, as the box office and critical success of this years latest installment in the decade-spanning franchise, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, has ensured that director Wes Ball will get to craft his planned trilogy. The revelation came as part of a summer box office round-up by THR, with the report discussing how franchises and big brands have helped push year-to-date domestic grosses to more than $5.4 billion which, while still down 13% on last year, is better than expectations for this point in 2024.

It looks like filmmaker Wes Ball will get to continue his Planet of the Apes trilogy. Disney is reportedly happy with how Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes performed earlier this year and is moving forward with the next installment in the long-running sci-fi franchise.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes successfully revived the sci-fi franchise after a seven-year hiatus. Looking ahead to a potential sequel, star Owen Teague teased that Noa may see himself pulled in two different directions over differing philosophies.
Speaking with Screen Rant at San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Teague revealed that he "would love to see Noa have kind of an inverse of the Caesar arc. The first movie's literally called Rise, and [Caesar] leads the apes into this age of freedom and takes them to the promised land, if you will. And then Noa, depending on how things go with the humans, maybe comes to believe that they actually need to know less and starts leading us towards the Dr. Zaius areas of the original film."

Could Raka and Proximus Caesar possibly have survived? Well, the actors who portrayed two of the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes' main characters seem to think so. Kevin Durand played the big bad, Proximus, in director Wes Balls action adventure this summer, while Peter Macon was tasked with voicing the last living member of the Order of Caesar, aka Raka. And during an appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con this week, both performers offered up their opinions on the apparent deaths of the two characters. Macon said during an interview with Screen Rant:
Did you see [Raka] die? I didn't see him die. Did you see him die? I saw [Proximus] kind of fall...
Durand quickly interjected:
I didn't die! Shut up, Raka. I didn't see you die, but you fell from a very big height. Stop putting that out in the universe.

The story of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is set many years after the conclusion of War for the Planet of the Apes. Many apes societies have grown from when the Moses-like Caesar brought his people to an oasis, while humans have been reduced to a feral-like existence.
