    British playwright and producer. After World War II he worked as producer for the Crown Film Unit, and then for the Marshall Plan making documentaries in Rome, Paris and Amsterdam. His wartime novel 'Hurrah the Flag' was published in 1954. He joined the BBC in 1954 as a contract writer and later worked as Head of Drama at Granada. His best known productions include "Raffles" , "The Caesars", "The Organization", "The Naked Civil Servant", "An Englishman's Castle", "Therese Raquine", "Napoleon and Love", "The Cleopatras". He won many awards including two BAFTA TV Awards, the Prix Italia, and the Broadcasting Press and Guild Award. He also wrote feature film scripts, including "The Whole Truth" and "All the Way Up".
