Following the release of last year’s festive action movie hit, Carry-On, star Taron Egerton continues to prove his action hero capabilities in a new action thriller. Egerton, who is, of course, no stranger to explosions and gunfire thanks to his role as Eggsy in the Kingsman franchise, will leave the more zany thrills of the comic book outings and Carry-On behind for something far more intense in She Rides Shotgun, and we now have our first look and details, which you can check out below.
Directed by Nick Rowland from a screenplay by Jordan Harper and Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, and based on the book by Jordan Harper, She Rides Shotgun stars Ana Sophia Heger, Rob Yang and John Carroll Lynch alongside Egerton, and follows a father who, after being released from prison, finds himself protecting both his daughter and himself from an onslaught of enemies out for his blood.

Bryce Dallas Howard has long been famed for all the star-studded portrayals she has given over the past more than three and a half decades that she has been active as an actress, mostly in the adventure, sci-fi, and thriller genres. After giving praiseworthy performances across numerous different genres, she now seems to be all set to enter the criminal field as well.
According to the latest reports, for her upcoming project, Howard is expected to go undercover in Amazon’s next crime-comedy, Deep Cover. But this, of course, will be nothing short of a new role for her, as Dallas Howard is no Bryan Cranston’s Robert Mazur, the character the respective actor played in his 2016 biographical masterpiece that trekked along similar lines.

Turns out, Pedro Pascal found filming “Gladiator II” to be quite the challenge at his age.
“The distinguishing and incomparable aspect of the whole experience would be getting my ass kicked by Paul Mescal,” he told Entertainment Weekly in an interview published Tuesday. “Elder abuse, we call it.”
“I’m getting up there — or, I’m not getting up there, I am up there,” the 49-year-old actor added. “A lot of work has been really physical, and I love that, but it was more challenging than it’s ever been for me.”
Pascal stars in the Ridley Scott-directed sequel as General Marcus Acacius, who trained under the original film’s Maximus Decimus Meridius. His co-star Mescal is Lucius Verus II, who finds out that he’s the son of Maximus (portrayed by Russell Crowe in the first movie) and not Lucius Verus I.
The stars became fast friends while filming the movie.

"Men in Black" is the best kind of blockbuster. It's uncommonly smart, riotously funny, exciting, heartwarming in spots, mean-spirited in others and, best of all, short. Yes, Roger Ebert was right when he said that no good movie is too long and no bad movie is short enough, but big summer movies have a tendency to give 'em too much of what they want. Sometimes, it's okay to leave the audience wanting more -- and by this I do not mean a post-credits stinger hyping the next movie in the franchise (although I am old enough to remember the thrill of waiting through the credits of a new 007 movie so I could see the "James Bond will return in..." title that typically gave viewers the title of the MI6 agent's next adventure).
At 98 minutes, "Men in Black" zips by.

"Men in Black" is a brisk summer blockbuster that does the unthinkable, especially in today's over-explicative superhero movie wasteland: it doesn't repeat information. It moves from plot point to plot point cleanly and clearly in a way that, judging from the box office, plays for all four commercial quadrants. It flatters the viewer by treating them as smart and perceptive, and rewards them with a tremendously satisfying finale. I can't think of too many studio tentpoles that pull this off with such glee.
Of course, no movie goes through production without its share of hiccups, and very few are shot exactly as written on the page. Sometimes, when you begin screening your movie for test audiences, you notice that seemingly can't-miss laugh lines don't get laughs, or a major action set piece feels out of place, or, worst of all,...

A new “Gladiator 2” trailer is here, offering a more extensive preview of Paramount’s epic sequel to the Best Picture-winning 2000 film.
Ridley Scott is back in the director’s chair for the aptly named “Gladiator II,” which finds Paul Mescal playing the grown son of Connie Nielsen’s character from the first film, Lucius. In an epic journey that mirrors the one Crowe’s Maximus went on in “Gladiator,” the sequel finds Mescal crossing paths with those who wronged him in the gladiatorial arena with an A-list ensemble that includes Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington. “With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people,” the official synopsis states.

Anyone looking to pick a fight with Gladiator II‘s Pedro Pascal may want to think again, according to his co-star Paul Mescal, who speaks about the actor’s physical prowess in a new interview with Empire.
“I think I’d win in a fight between me and Pedro, but he’s deceptive,” said Mescal. “Pedro is one of the funniest men that I know, but he could f**k s**t up. Like, absolutely categorically. There’s a beast in there for sure.”
Mescal’s comments echo those of Pascal, who in an earlier interview with Vanity Fair, said he came to refer to his co-star as “Brick Wall Paul.”
“He got so strong,” recalled the actor. “I would rather be thrown from a building than have to fight him again. To go up against somebody that fit and that talented and that much younger….”

Like the real Jane Grey, the reign of My Lady Jane turned out to be a short one.
Amazon’s Prime Video has canceled the period drama, which combined romance and alternate-world fantasy. The cancellation comes about seven weeks after Prime Video released all eight episodes of the show’s first (and now only) season.
My Lady Jane, based on a novel by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows, is set in a 16th century England where humans co-exist with shape-shifters who can take the form of either people or animals. Jane Grey (Emily Bader) is an ordinary human, known as a Verity, who becomes sympathetic to the oppressed shape-shifters, known as Ethians — which will become a problem for the ruling class as Jane rises to power.
Edward Bluemel, Rob Brydon, Dominic Cooper, Anna Chancellor, Jordan Peters, Kate O’Flynn, Henry Ashton, Jim Broadbent and Ollie Chris (who narrates) star alongside Bader.

Exclusive: Prime Video has opted not to renew My Lady Jane for a second season. The news comes seven weeks after all eight episodes from the show’s first season were binge released with little promotion June 27.
The news is not entirely surprising. Creatively, My Lady Jane has done well. Despite taking a very big swing with a premise that crosses genres that don’t normally co-exist — historical romance, fantasy, adventure, comedy and farce — it has been among the best reviewed new series this year. But it didn’t find a broad enough audience, never landing on Nielsen’s Top 10 weekly streaming rankings for originals.
Created by Gemma Burgess based on the 2016 YA historical fiction novels, My Lady Jane takes an alt-history approach to one of England’s monarchs with the shortest rule, the 16th century Lady Jane Grey, aka the Nine Days Queen. Mixing palace intrigue with a fantastical take on class,...

Movie sequels sometimes recast actors or write out characters for various reasons, like moving in a different direction with the plot. Actors may be replaced due to conflicts or legal issues, even leading to major roles being cut. Some actors may not return for sequels due to script decisions or scheduling conflicts, impacting the series.
Movie producers may decide not to ask a particular actor back for a sequel, sometimes leading to movie sequels recasting important characters. The reasoning for not inviting an actor back may be completely neutral as far as the actor is concerned; the team behind the new movie simply decided to move in a different direction with the plot, which didn't include that actor's character. However, this does give the sequel more to prove, because if it is not well received, the fans may feel like a great actor was dismissed for no reason at all.

Paramount Pictures on Monday debuted the first poster for Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II, slated for release on November 22, which sees Paul Mescal prepare for battle. Check out the images below.
In the film following up Scott’s classic historical epic from 2000, which won five Oscars from 11 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Russell Crowe, Mescal plays Lucius, son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) — the second daughter of Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius — who now is a grown man in a story taking place years after the first film ended. Will Smith starred as Agent J in the sci-fi film franchise Men in Black. Based on the popular comics of the same name, the original trilogy was directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and was executive-produced by Steven Spielberg. Smith starred along with Tommy Lee Jones in the lead roles in all three films, and it proved to be one of the actor’s breakout roles.
Despite the original film being a huge commercial success and developing a fanbase, the sequels have been regarded as unworthy successors and have been accused of being cash grabs. Filmmaker Sonnenfeld was also reportedly under such extreme pressure to deliver a commercial hit that he almost got a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. Prime Video has released the first photos from My Lady Jane, the quick-witted romantic new series set in an alt-fantasy Tudor world. The series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on Thursday, June 27, in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.
Inspired by the best-selling book, My Lady Jane is a radical retelling of English royal history, in which King Henry VIII’s son Edward does not die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Grey is not beheaded, and neither is her rascal of a husband, Guildford.
At the center of this rollicking new series is the brilliant and headstrong Jane, who is unexpectedly crowned queen overnight and finds herself the target of nefarious villains coming for the crown (and her head)… My Lady Jane is an epic tale of true love and high adventure, where the damsel in distress saves herself, her true love, and then the Kingdom.

Ridley Scott has found the composer for his upcoming “Gladiator” sequel.
Harry Gregson-Williams has been hired to score the hotly-anticipated Paramount feature, which is due out Nov. 22, more than 24 years after the Oscar-winning original.
The film marks the seventh collaboration between Scott and Gregson-Williams, with the composer having penned the scores for “The Martian,” “Kingdom of Heaven,” “The Last Duel” and “House of Gucci”, as well as composing themes for “Prometheus” and “Exodus: Gods and Kings.” Other credits for Gregson-Williams include “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget,” “The Meg,” “Mulan,” “The Gilded Age,” “The Equalizer,” “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason,” “The Chronicles of Narnia” and all four “Shrek” films.
In something of nice twist, Gregson-Williams also spent many years early in his career as a protégé of Hans Zimmer, who was the composer on the first “Gladiator” (and landed an Oscar nomination for his work).

When it comes to the road to blockbuster glory, some projects are willed, some happen instantaneously, while others go through a long development hell. That’s just what happens when you’re working toward what’s hopefully a billion-grossing title.
In the case of Mattel’s Barbie, it was a 14-year journey that began at Universal. It stands to reason that the toy company would be fiercely protective about a feature take on its 64-year-old doll that generates a reported $3 billion annually in revenue. The product first conceived as America’s Sweetheart has evolved with changing times, switching up her stereotypes and outfits from prom queen to flight attendant to Mad Men secretary to astronaut. A doll that was deemed iconic in the 1970s-era of pinups like Loni Anderson and Farrah Fawcett endured a backlash when critics deemed her an inappropriate role model for young girls. This, despite Mattel pushing...
