Why Trini Lopez's Dirty Dozen Character Disappears During The Movie
Image
American singer and actor Trini Lopez played a significant role in the 1967 action movie The Dirty Dozen, but his character mysteriously vanished midway through the story. Based on the 1965 novel by E.M. Nathanson, The Dirty Dozen is set in 1944, during World War II, and depicts 12 soldiers being trained for a military mission ahead of the Normandy landings. The movie was a critical and commercial success and inspired three television sequels in the 1980s. A Dirty Dozen remake was announced in 2019, with David Ayer set to serve as director.

The Dirty Dozen received praise for its depiction of military combat during World War II and received four Oscar nominations in 1968, winning one for Best Sound Editing. The movie contained a talented ensemble cast featuring Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine, Jim Brown, and George Kennedy, who all served in the military in real life, during the war. One member of the cast ensemble,...

Watch the Killers Honor the Beatles With ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’ at Queens Concert
Image
The Killers kicked off a two-night stand at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, New York, on Saturday night by honoring another band that played the same venue 60 years earlier.

“Some of you might know the history of the place,” Killers frontman Brandon Flowers told the crowd. “Obviously there were some amazing tennis matches that took place here. When we think about that historic Beatles performance at Shea Stadium, that was in 1965. But in 1964, 60 years ago, the Beatles did two nights here at Forest Hills. We thought that we would pay our respects.

Dave Grohl’s Epiphone Dg-335 Signature Guitar Is Back in Stock
Image
Dave Grohl and Epiphone joined forces for the new Dg-335 signature guitar back in March of this year. After the model sold out pretty quickly, Epiphone has announced that the guitar is back in stock (purchase here).

The guitar should be familiar to fans of Foo Fighters, as it combines the body of Grohl’s trusty Es axe — even sporting the same striking Pelham Blue finish — with a one-piece mahogany neck with an elliptical C profile, a laurel fretboard, split diamond inlays, and a Trini Lopez-style headstock with Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners.

The semi-hollowbody is made of layered maple/poplar and also touts the diamond-shaped F-holes that are a fixture of the Es models. Electronically, the guitar houses Dave’s preferred pickups: Gibson USA Burstbucker models, with a Burstbucker 2 in the neck and a Burstbucker 3 in the bridge position. They’re wired to Cts potentiometers,...

Image
Jim Brown, the NFL Hall of Famer and Civil Rights activist who turned to acting and appeared in films and TV shows ranging from The Dirty Dozen and I Spy to Draft Day, Mars Attacks! and The A-Team, died Thursday night in Los Angeles. His wife, Monique Brown, said in an Instagram post that he died peacefully, but she did not provide a cause.

Brown is considered among the greatest football players of all time. Drafted sixth overall in 1957 by the Cleveland Browns out of Syracuse University, his bruising running style redefined the running back position. As a rookie, he ran for 237 yards in a game against the Los Angeles Rams — a record that would stand until the 1970s.

Dave Grohl at an event for Sound City (2013)
Foo Fighters Are Back! Elderly Dave Grohl Leads a Nursing Home Revolt in Video for New Song, ‘Run’
Dave Grohl at an event for Sound City (2013)
Foo Fighters have returned, and they’re up to their old tricks—emphasis on old.

The Dave Grohl-led outfit is celebrating 22 years this summer, but anyone fearing that the band’s sledge hammer riffs have gone soft will have their ear drums pounded into rubble by their new song, “Run.” Age brings wisdom, and a greater ability to shred.

The accompanying music video hammers the point home. The Foos—prematurely elderly with the magic of prosthetic makeup—find themselves in an oppressive nursing home, lead by terrifying Nurse Ratched-like staff. Grohl, nearly unrecognizable but for his trademark Trini Lopez Gibson,...

Travis Fimmel in Jane et Tarzan (2003)
Lethal Weapon Remake Moving Forward at Warner Bros.
Travis Fimmel in Jane et Tarzan (2003)
Warner Bros. is ramping up development on its remake slate with such titles as Lethal Weapon, The Wild Bunch, Westworld, The Dirty Dozen, Tarzan and Oh, God!.

The studio's new priority on remakes comes after the departure of Warner executive Jessica Goodman at the end of 2010. Warner Bros. is now reorganizing her portfolio of projects, which will be getting new leases on life.

The Lethal Weapon remake is the first project to move forward, with the studio hiring Will Beall to write the remake script. Beall is a former Lapd detective who garnered attention for his writing with the script Tales from the Gangster Squad. Beall's pitch maintained the buddy-cop theme with a hard-r edge that the studio was looking for.

The Dirty Dozen and Tarzan remakes have been in development for many years. We reported back in 2008 that Stephen Sommers was directing the Tarzan remake, although a deal was never made.
