Alex Lyras is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter, actor, producer and director known for Plasticity, Heterosexuals, Californication, Tut, and The Common Air.
He produced and acted in the film "Heterosexuals", starring Natasha Lyonne. He has sold TV pilots to FOX and Warner Brothers, developed an action comedy for Jerry Bruckheimer and a drama for Joel Silver. His screenplay, "Edison Illuminated," was awarded a TriBeCa Film Institute Sloan Foundation grant and optioned by Castle Rock.
His roots lie in New York theater where he has written and produced several Off-Broadway plays; "Plasticity" (Ovation Award, Huff Post's Best Plays, opened Off Broadway at the Greenwich Street Theater). "The Common Air," (Ovation Award, opened Off Broadway to the Bleecker Street Theater), "Unequalibrium," (New Playwrights: Best Plays and Best Men's Monologues for the Twenty-First Century). Most recently, "Aristotle/Alexander," was produced at the Getty Villa with Lyras directing. Smith & Kraus has published a "Trilogy" of his work. He is a member of the WGAw.
