From failed solo deals to a reality TV stint that crashed and burned, her life spiraled far from the spotlight.

"Christian movies" is a bit of a vague genre, particularly considering how widely encompassing the term "Christian" is itself. One of three Abrahamic religions alongside Judaism and Islam, Christianity includes everything from Catholicism to Protestantism to Mormonism. But to put stricter parameters on the genre and ensure more unknown films are included, a good list of the best Christian movies should strictly include movies that adapt Christian texts and stories,...

Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance: A Film’ Is a Super Hero Epic in the Form of a Concert Movie
Image
Beyoncé’s Renaissance is so much more than a concert film. It’s a superhero epic—as if Bey is filling the void left by The Marvels or Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Beyoncé in Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé (2023)
Queen Bey has arrived on the box office stage.

Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé — which Beyoncé wrote, directed and produced — started off its run on the big screen Thursday night with a better-than-expected $5 million in North American previews.

The concert movie is tracking for a debut in the $20 million range, which would mark the biggest opening for the first weekend of December. It should also top this weekend’s chart. And with a perfect 100 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and a near-perfect 99 percent audience score, Renaissance come in ahead of expectations.

The weekend after Thanksgiving is notoriously sluggish, and Renaissance is a welcome gift for exhibitors. It should also top this weekend’s chart.

Taylor Swift with her blockbuster Eras Tour movie, Beyoncé and her team decided to bypass Hollywood studios and pact and pact with AMC Theatres distribute Renaissance, which chronicles her recent world tour while also providing behind-the-scenes footage of the superstar.

Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance’ Film Premiere Was Raw, Emotional Fun
Image
It’s been 470 calendar days since Beyoncé gave her stans an inkling that a Renaissance visual album was coming. In the year following the release of her seventh studio album, the BeyHive relied on their improvisational skills to keep them engaged throughout its nontraditional rollout. They made viral dance challenges to “Cuff It” on TikTok; tried to replicate Bey’s melismatic bridge from “Virgo’s Groove”; and when the came time for everybody to be “on mute” during the “Energy” segment of Renaissance World Tour shows, cities across the world...

Inside Beyoncé’s ‘Renaissance’ Concert Film World Premiere with Lizzo, Halle Bailey, Janelle Monáe and More
Image
Beyoncé captivated Hollywood’s attention Saturday night as the superstar held a stealthily staged world premiere of her concert movie, “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé,” at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

The movie, which documents her Renaissance World Tour, will be released in the U.S. on Dec. 1 via major exhibition chains, including AMC, Regal and Cinemark. Beyoncé fans have noted that Dec. 1 also marks World AIDS Day – the singer dedicated her “Renaissance” album to her late cousin Johnny (she refers to him as “Uncle Johnny”), who died of AIDS-related illness.

Details of the premiere were kept under wraps, with guests invited with a save-the-date that only included the screening’s 7 p.m. start time and a “cozy opulence” dress code. The location, which turned out to be the Goldwyn Theater, was provided less than 24 hours before the start of the festivities. Guests were advised to take a...

The legendary troupe first debuted in the late ‘90s, delivering hits like “No, No, No,” “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Say My Name” that sent them skyrocketing to superstardom in the music industry.

Throughout the years, the group experienced several member lineup shake-ups, before ultimately landing on their most well-known iteration, dubbed “DC3.” Together, the trio would release fun, empowering smashes like “Survivor,” “Bootylicious” and “Independent Woman Pt. 1.”

Since their last studio album in the mid ‘00s, Destiny Fulfilled, all of the members have gone on to embark on solo ventures expanding beyond music into acting, writing, presenting, and appearing as judges on popular reality TV shows.

As Beyoncé celebrates her birthday on tour, we’re taking a look back at all of the members past and present, and checking out what they’re...

Victoria Monét and Kelly Rowland Have a Lot More in Common Than They Realized
Image
A small room at the top of Hollywood’s historic Paramount Recording Studios is serving as a salon for Victoria Monét as she and a stylist put the finishing touches on her hair. She’s preparing to sit down with Kelly Rowland, and she’s pretty nervous. Meeting a role model can do that to a person.

When Destiny’s Child released The Writing’s on the Wall in 1997, Monét was about 10 years old, and Rowland about 18. Like many Black girls at the turn of the century (and today), Victoria loved Destiny’s Child.

Michelle Williams Says ‘The Door Is Open’ For A Destiny’s Child Reunion
Image
If Michelle Williams had it her way, Destiny’s Child would still be together.

With that being said, the 43-year-old singer is open to reuniting with her former girl group members.

While appearing on “The Terrell Show”, Williams commented on the possibility of a reunion while sharing that she “didn’t want” the iconic girl group’s final album, Destiny Fulfilled, to be their last project together.

“I don’t know if we wanted it to be the last. But that’s the way it is,” she said of the 2004 album. “But if it was up to me, we’d still be flip-flopping. We’d still be group, solo, group solo.”

"Raising Kanan"'s Sascha Penn Breaks Down All the "Sins and Secrets" Exposed in the Season 2 Finale
Image
There's a street war brewing in "Raising Kanan" that's caused a family and its empire to fall apart. Now, it'll take a whole lot of manpower and trust to put it all back together.

"Raising Kanan"'s epic season two finale titled "If Y'Don't Know, Now Y'Know," which aired Oct. 23, put a lot into perspective for Kanan (Mekai Curtis), Raquel (Patina Miller), Lou (Malcolm Mays), Marvin (London Brown), and Jukebox (Hailey Kilgore). Between the shootouts that may (or may not) have resulted in the deaths of Jukebox's mother Kenya (LeToya Luckett), Lou's artist Zisa (Paulina Singer), and Unique's (Joey Bada) right-hand man Worrell (John Clay III); Raquel getting snaked by her plug and out of a distribution deal; and heat from the mob coming down on everyone, things are in complete disarray.

"Let's just say that pretty much everyone who took a bullet in the finale is in dire straits.

Image
Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for “If Y’Don’t Know, Now Y’Know,” the Season 2 finale of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” on Starz.

Rebuilding Raquel’s empire after all her decisions backfired will be an uphill battle, but she may not have to walk the road alone.

Season 2 of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” ended with an explosive shoot-out between Raquel (Patina Miller), Lou (Malcolm Mays), and Marvin (London Brown), who battled Sal’s (Michael Rispoli) Mafia in New Jersey. The exchange resulted in the deaths of newcomers Zisa (Paulina Singer), Cartier (Omar Dorsey), and Kenya (LeToya Luckett).

Raquel had hit rock bottom with her plans to extend her operations to Jersey, D.C., and the south thwarted, and her son, Kanan (Mekai Curtis) choosing his new relationship with his father over hers. And at a moment where death was knocking on Raquel’s door, she’s saved by her former rival,...

Power Book III: Raising Kanan Post Mortem: LeToya Luckett Talks Complex Kenya
LeToya Luckett
When you get a chance to speak with Thee LeToya Luckett, you take it happily!

And when you get to pick her brain a bit about some of the more devastating scenes from Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 2 Episode 8, you make sure to do the interview justice.

Luckett was incredibly candid as she detailed Kenya's thought process during the hour and broke down many of Kenya's motivations pertaining to Jukebox and that fractured relationship.

Kenya and Jukebox's relationship deteriorates throughout this hour after Kenya ambushes her with a conversion therapy session. It's a gut-wrenching scene, and I wondered what was Kenya's thought process throughout this complicated hour as she put her daughter in such a disturbing space.

"Well, it's heavy because I feel for Kenya in this situation, and, of course, I feel for Juke," Luckett explained. "Because of her decision to step out and do what she...

How ‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ Newcomers Are Shaking Up the Family Business in Season 2
Image
The family business rules everything in the “Power” universe — but in Season 2 of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” some new characters might have a few plans to shake up dynamics as fans know them.

LeToya Luckett, Omar Dorsey, and Paulina Singer have joined the series this season, and each of their characters step onto the scene with something to prove.

As the second season opened with a regretful Kanan (Mekhai Curtis), the teen reunited with his mother Raquel (Patina Miller) and the rest of the Thomas family in New York following the Season 1 blowout between him and Officer Howard (Omar Epps). But he soon learns of new family affiliations, and business is expanding faster than before.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 2 Episode 5 Review: What Happens in the Catskills
Tony Danza, Wendell Pierce, Erika Woods, Malcolm Mays, Patina Miller, Stefano Marchetti, Hailey Kilgore, Joey Bada$$, Mekai Curtis, and Marvin Thomas in Power Book III: Raising Kanan (2021)
Ah, there's nothing like a trip to the woods to bring a mother and son closer together.

Or maybe not in the case of Raq and Kanan. Especially when Raq planned said trip solely to bury a body.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 2 Episode 5 took us out of the city and dropped us in the boonies for a bit, where Raq and Kanan found themselves roasting hot dogs, knee-deep in mud, and fighting for their lives. What a night and morning it was!

Raq has to be able to feel Kanan slipping away. She's way too perceptive to miss the signs, and she already knows he's keeping things from her.

But Raq is smart enough not to call him out on it yet, instead trying to insert herself back into the number one place in his life. And while the trip to the Catskills is mainly about burying that inspector's body,...
