Two months after the death of Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys legend was laid to rest at Los Angeles’ Westwood Memorial Park.
His daughter Carnie Wilson, singer of the Nineties trio Wilson Phillips, wrote a heartfelt post on Instagram about her father’s burial. “Today we laid my Daddy to rest,” she said. “It was incredibly difficult to see that happen, but at the same time it gave more closure and more of a feeling of restful peace. The last eight weeks have been extremely challenging and like nothing I’ve ever experienced.

Brian Wilson will always be remembered as the man who dared to experiment. He is the definition of genius when it comes to making music. Whether he was laying harmonies or pushing the boundaries, he didn’t quite believe in following trends; instead, he invented them. Which is why June 11 will always be considered a dark day in the world of music, as we were forced to say goodbye to one of the field’s greatest legends.
As we remember him and his legacy, let’s take a trip down memory lane and learn a thing or two about it. From his favorite The Beach Boys song to The Beatles’ track that made him shed a few tears, we are diving into the life of a man who gave his all to music.

Mike Love gave thanks to his late cousin and Beach Boys bandmate and co-writer Brian Wilson during his Songwriters Hall of Fame induction in New York on Thursday night, telling the crowd of fellow writers and industry insiders that “I do feel his presence” in the room as he accepted his honor.
Love’s induction to the Songwriters Hall of Fame came just a day after Wilson died Wednesday at age 82, and 25 years after Wilson himself was inducted into the Hall back in 2000.
“I especially must thank my cousin Brian Wilson,” Love said Thursday. “My first cousin by blood but brother in music, together we set the stage for some of the most successful music collaborations of all time.”
Love was inducted by John Stamos, a famously huge Beach Boys fan who’s collaborated with the band frequently. In his induction speech, Stamos said that Love chronicled “the American dream” with the songs he wrote.

Bruce Springsteen posted a heartfelt tribute to the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, who died at the age of 82.
“Brian Wilson was the most musically inventive voice in all of pop, with an otherworldly ear for harmony,” Springsteen wrote on Instagram. “He was also the visionary leader of America’s greatest band, the Beach Boys. If there’d been no Beach Boys, there would have been no ‘Racing In The Street.’ Listen to ‘Summer’s Gone’ from the Beach Boys’ last album That’s Why God Made the Radio and weep.

Chicago – Brian Wilson did not have an easy life. As a member of The Beach Boys in the early 1960s, he redefined the sound of pop/rock. Sweet dreams, Brian Wilson. The world is already a lonelier place without him, after the news of his death on Wednesday, the week before his 83rd birthday. For the ultimate poet of summer, it’s fitting that he left the planet in June, right where he came in — the California boy who sang “The Lonely Sea,” the tortured genius who wrote one of the most mournful melodies imaginable and called it “The Warmth of the Sun,” the most beloved of American songwriters. Fifty-three years since their first hit single, “Listen to the Music,” raced up the charts in 1972, the Doobie Brothers are back with their 16th studio album, Walk This Road, and a 20-date tour this summer with the Coral Reefer Band that kicks off on Aug. 4 in Detroit.

Over the years, they’ve shifted stylistically from a crunchy country-rock band to a smooth R&b/pop outfit. Both incarnations yielded massive hits, from “China Grove” and “Black Water” in the early ’70s to “Takin’ It to the Streets” and “What a Fool Believes” later in the decade. Brian Wilson wrote some of the most beautiful music to ever grace this confounding world. His songs are eerily perfect and, in terms of the creative process, impossible to reverse engineer. Obviously, you can break down the songwriting structure and meticulous production of masterpieces like "Surfer Girl," "When I Grow Up to Be a Man," and "Don't Worry Baby," but accounting for their existence, how they came into being, how someone could hear such exhilaratingly strange harmonies and convey them to his bandmates... this was nothing short of sorcery.
Upon learning that Wilson has passed away at the age of 82, I was struck with the same sense of melancholic hope that I feel every time I listen to "God Only Knows" (so well used in "Boogie Nights") or "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times." From measure to measure, these songs swing from deep sadness to unfettered joy; they encompass...

Back in the Eighties and Nineties, the release of a major rock star memoir was a fairly uncommon event. Noteworthy ones like George Harrison’s I, Me, Mine (1980), Iggy Pop’s I Need More (1982), and David Lee Roth’s Crazy From the Heat (1997) popped up every once in a while, but it wasn’t until the 2000s that this genre started making regular appearances on The New York Times bestseller list, thanks to landmark works like Anthony Kiedis’ Scar Tissue, Bob Dylan’s Chronicles: Volume One, Eric Clapton’s The Autobiography,...

Al Jardine, multi-instrumentalist and co-founder of The Beach Boys, has unearthed a new song titled “Wish.”
The track was written by Jardine in the early 1990s alongside his songwriting partner, Larry Dvoskin. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Jardine described “Wish” as an ode to the Wilson brothers and his Beach Boys bandmates, Brian and Dennis. “It just dawned on me how much I missed them,” Jardine said about writing the track. “Dennis, of course, had passed, and Brian was pretty much out of the action. I felt very emotional.”

The Beach Boys emerged from Southern California with an infectious sound that perfectly captured carefree summers by the shore. Starting in the early 1960s, Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Carl Wilson, and Dennis Wilson created vocal harmonies and surf rock anthems that evoked imagery of the sun, sand, and freedom. Their music became inextricably linked to hot days, cool ocean waves, and memories of youth. Over a career spanning three decades, the band brewed hits like “Surfin’ USA,” “Good Vibrations,” and “Kokomo,” cementing their status as ambassadors of California culture and pioneers of the pop genre.

The new Disney+ documentary “The Beach Boys” is one in a long line of both documentary and narrative features focusing on The Beach Boys and their associates, many of which have focused on the troubled genius at the band’s center, Brian Wilson. What sets “The Beach Boys” apart is the attention given to the band as a whole; while Brian’s contribution is respectfully acknowledged and explored, his brothers Dennis and Carl get equal time — along with other band members like Mike Love, Al Jardine, and the guest players who rotated in and out of the band. There’s also a rich sense of context in terms of what The Beach Boys meant to their era and to the musicians who came afterward, thanks to a wealth of carefully selected archival footage and contemporary interviews with musicians like Janelle Monae and One Republic’s Ryan Tedder.
