Jane Loughman
Jane's production company Monkeys & Parrots produces film, TV and digital content with a sense of humor, passion and purpose. Jane's passion project, The Swearing Jar (2022), debuted in the US on September 23rd 2022, following its world premiere at TIFF: written by Kate Hewlettand directed by Lindsay MacKay, this acclaimed female-driven romantic musical stars Adelaide Clemens & Kathleen Turner, Douglas Smith and Patrick J. Adams. Monkeys & Parrots' slate includes the feel-good, 40-something, coming-of-age comedy, "Therapy 4 Adults & Aunties", a Canada/New Zealand co-production from Kirsten Carthew; short form series Sweet As Sugar, an LGBTQ2+ undergraduate sexual adventure; and the period romance "One Moment", also in co-production with New Zealand. Jane was born and raised in central London, living above the Westminster Theatre -- a West End theatre managed by her father, Donald Loughman. After getting her degree at the University of Aberdeen (alongside 5 News reporter Catherine Jones and producer Matthew Gordon; she started out in television as a runner at Capricorn Programmes in London, working on Movies, Movies, Movies (1992) and Cybernet (1995). That led to 12 years producing, writing and reporting for various international entertainment, news, and reality shows. Jane's TV career began in the UK, ultimately producing the weekly entertainment series "Movies, Games & Videos" for the ITV network. She also developed "Blast" for TCC, Not Fade Away (1996) for ITV and "Inside Hollywood" - relocating production from London to Los Angeles. From 2000-2004 she worked for E! Entertainment as a producer of E! News (1991) - where she was responsible for creating the live location shoots that set the news magazine show apart from their network rivals. Next she co-created, produced and reported for the internationally syndicated, weekly, magazine show "Hollywood Boulevard"; then served as Series Producer for Paramount Television's UK edition of Entertainment Tonight (1981). During this time Jane worked with everybody who's anybody in Hollywood - from Johnny Depp to Tim Burton, Ringo Starr to LL Cool J, Keira Knightley to Kermit and Gonzo... Her first independent feature film production, A Dog's Breakfast (2007) was written and directed by David Hewlett and was shot during hiatus from the series Stargate: Atlantis (2004), on which Hewlett starred as the arrogant astrophysicist, Dr Rodney McKay. "A Dog's Breakfast" was produced for just $125K, and was distributed by MGM, subsequently grossing over $2.5 million on DVD and digital platforms. Their second feature collaboration, Spaceship (2014), features Hewlett's "Atlantis" co-star Aquaman (2018) Jason Momoa. Jane also produced the anti-rom-com Who You Know (2019) for writer/director Jake Horowitz, and the short films The Trial of Ben Barry (2012) for Shea E. Butler and "Do Us Part" for William Phillips. Jane is an alumna of the TransAtlantic Partners Program. She has participated in the Producer's Lab and International Finance Forums at TIFF; EFM's Producers Without Borders; and Cannes' Producer's Workshop. She holds a Masters in Film and a Certificate in Entertainment Law. She is also an instructor at Toronto Film School, teaching Producing & Production Management and Film Financing. Jane is a Londoner at heart, a Pacific West Coaster (LA, Vancouver) from 1997-2012; she now lives in Toronto.
