Halloween: Why Michael Myers Is Called The Shape
Image
Halloweens villain Michael Myers has become a cinematic icon and a favorite among horror fans, and while many are aware that Michael Myers was originally named The Shape, they might not know why. The Halloween franchise has seen many ups and downs with multiple retcons, remakes, and reboots of the series. Though not all Halloween films have been successful, they have certainly helped maintain the popularity and reputation of Michael Myers, who is now part of pop culture, being referred to and parodied on multiple occasions in different films and TV shows from all genres.

Michael Myers is credited as "The Shape in the original Halloween before being officially credited as "Michael Myers" in the sequels, only for the most recent Halloween trilogy, including Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends, to return to crediting him as The Shape. With the constant switching back and forth, and the fact that the name...

Halloween: Resurrection (2002) – Awfully Good Horror Movies
Jamie Lee Curtis, Tyra Banks, Busta Rhymes, Bianca Kajlich, and Sean Patrick Thomas in Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
A new episode of the Awfully Good Horror Movies video series has just been released, and since this is the week of Halloween, we decided to take a look back at one of the least popular entries in the Halloween franchise, 2002’s Halloween: Resurrection (watch it Here), a movie that took the mostly-clean slate it was handed by the previous film, Halloween H20 (which disregarded the events of all but the first two Halloween movies), fumbled it, and let it shatter on the ground. You can hear all about it by checking out the video embedded above.

Directed by Rick Rosenthal from a screenplay by Larry Brand and Sean Hood, Halloween: Resurrection has the following synopsis: The original house of horrors, the dilapidated home of infamous serial killer Michael Myers, has now become the set of a webcam reality show. But when the veteran slasher discovers that a group of...

Halloween's Original Michael Myers Suffered Extreme Pain To Only Make $25 A Day
Image
In John Carpenter's 1978 film "Halloween," the masked killer Michael Myers was played by multiple actors. For the bulk of his scenes, Michael — called "The Shape" — was played by Nick Castle, a film school friend of Carpenter's and a director in his own right. Castle also directed "The Last Starfighter" and "The Boy Who Could Fly." As a small boy, Michael Myers was played, in one scene, by an actor named Will Sandin in his first and last role on screen. In Pov shots, the hands of young Michael were provided by co-writer and producer Debra Hill, while the unmasked Michael — who appears only briefly at the very end of the movie — was played by Tony Moran.

Castle had the lion's share of screen time, however, and is generally thought of as the "official" Michael Myers by "Halloween" fans the world over. Castle would reprise the role for David Gordon Green...

Michael Myers Actor James Jude Courtney Confirms That Halloween Ends Is His Final Outing In The Franchise
Image
It's up for debate whether or not "Halloween Ends" is going to be the actual end of the "Halloween" franchise. The more recent installments have seen wildly mixed reviews, with passionate stances coming from both sides of the aisle — but if there's one thing "Halloween" fans can agree on, it's their desire for more Michael Myers. That said, it appears that Jame Lee Curtis, our longtime heroine Laurie Strode, isn't the only pivotal cast member who claims she is saying goodbye to the story for good.

Myers actor James Jude Courtney confirmed that "Halloween Ends" would be his last time donning the mask during an interview with ScreenRant published on October 18, 2022. He said:

"You know, [director] David [Gordon Green], and Jamie and I have talked about this, we're done. We're done. I think, for me, to put this character down, Jamie and I were talking on the set towards the end,...

‘Halloween: Resurrection’ – 7 Things We Learned from the New 4K Ultra HD Special Features
Image
General consensus among Halloween fans typically ranks Halloween: Resurrection last out of the eight original films, which is perhaps why efforts have rarely been made to produce special features for the film. 20 years later, defenders of the oft-maligned sequel finally have some new insight into the production.

Scream Factory’s The Halloween 4K Collection (1995-2002) 4K Ultra HD box set boasts new interviews with several Resurrection cast and crew members that were produced by Justin Beahm’s Reverend Entertainment. Here are seven things I learned…

1. Actors shot their own headset camera footage

The reality TV angle was an interesting (and ahead-of-its-time) plot point, but the number of cameras involved complicated the shoot. “We had a video village that was just miles and miles of cable where there was something like 20 monitors of all the different feeds,” recalls production designer Troy Hansen.

In addition to the main film camera – with...

20 Years of Dangertainment: The Complicated Legacy of Halloween: Resurrection
Image
Every film franchise has its odd one out. You know, the one that makes a lot of fans wince or see red at the mere mention of it. For the Friday the 13th series, it’s probably Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday. For the Candyman series, it’s very likely to be Candyman 3: Day of the Dead. And for the Halloween series, it’s most definitely Halloween: Resurrection.

I’ve seen countless Halloween fans often rank the 2002 slasher as the worst of the series, and this contempt certainly shows in its Internet Movie Database user rating. Today, it holds a 4.0 out of 10, the lowest of the entire series. Even Halloween co-creator John Carpenter, who avoided watching many of the sequels he wasn’t involved in, took the time to throw shade on the film.

“I watched the one in that house, with all the cameras,” Carpenter told TooFab in 2018. “Oh my god.

We're just about 6 weeks shy from the premiere of Blumhouse's Halloween, slated to slash into Us theaters on October 19th. I don’t want to reveal my hand to early on this one, but then again you guys probably know by now that I don’t rip into any film to tear it to shreds. Typically, it’s for two reasons. I see what they were trying to do with a limited budget. The heart is there, but the money ain’t. Also, I’ve had to double back on my opinions of films on the first watch. Hating it in the beginning, and then seeing something or things on another viewing that shows me that I had a gross error in judgment. Well, “Mr. Hush” puts me into a purgatory of indecision.

Jamie Lee Curtis
Halloween: Resurrection
Jamie Lee Curtis
NEW YORK -- This latest installment of the horror film franchise that is apparently as invulnerable as its trademark villain has arrived for an incongruous summer playoff, demonstrating yet again that the era of the intelligent, well-made B movie is long gone. Clearly reflecting a lack of effort on the part of everyone involved, the hopefully but inaccurately titled "Halloween: Resurrection" (helmed by Rick Rosenthal, who directed the second entry in the series) should be a fast theatrical fade, quickly finding its way onto the video shelves where it rightly belongs.

The first scene features another cameo turn from Jamie Lee Curtis, who really should have let her appearance in the series' last effort, the 20th anniversary (and surprisingly entertaining) "Halloween: H20", be her swan song. Quickly dispatched in a typically gruesome sequence that plays more like a climax than an opener, she seems unlikely to return in the inevitable next installment, though, of course, nobody ever really comes to an end in horror films.

The main gimmick in this lackluster eighth edition is its sending up of the current trends of reality television and interactive cyber technology, with its assortment of victims gathered in Michael Myers' old house for a live television and webcast special dubbed "Dangertainment". Even this concept lacks freshness, however, with the endless video footage all too reminiscent of "The Blair Witch Project" and the spoofing of reality TV not nearly as imaginative as in the recent "Series 7".

The best elements here come directly from the original, namely John Carpenter's still haunting theme music and the truly scary, expressionless mask worn by the hulking Michael Myers (played with the suitable physicality and deadened eyes by Brad Loree). Otherwise, it's strictly the same old same old, with a group of teens unsuccessfully trying to avoid being skewered by the relentless Michael. Despite the fact that their adventures are being broadcast live, they naturally don't resist the temptation for some quick sexual coupling, with the inevitable victimization of the hapless female who takes off her top. The young cast members go through their paces with the usual mixture of feigned bravado and hysteria, with only Sean Patrick Thomas ("Save the Last Dance") making more than a cursory impression. Also on hand are model Tyra Banks and rapper Busta Rhymes. The latter is in predictable macho mode, at one point taunting Myers with the witticism "Trick or treat, motherf-----". This is indicative of the general level of the dialogue, which ranges from the exotic "You like sushi, motherf-----?" to the all-too-accurate understatement "This is bad".
