In “Sorry, Baby,” the defining moment of Agnes’ adult life happens off-camera, but it haunts nearly every other scene in the movie. A standout of the U.S. dramatic competition at Sundance, Eva Victor’s disarmingly funny, slow-to-unfold debut is less a film about sexual assault than it is a serious look at the process of rebuilding after such an experience. Sympathy merges with satire, and acceptance leads to questions (rather than the other way around), as Victor herself embodies a bright young woman who probably thought of herself as a dozen things — witty, independent, a sure-to-inspire future professor — but now must add “survivor” to that list.
A tall, willowy 20-something, Agnes is a brilliant literary mind who must rewrite everything, including her understanding of the word “brilliant,” after the professor (Louis Cancelmi) who’d freely offered such compliments makes a pass at her. “Do you think that’s why...

From maverick director Roman Polanski comes one of the most unusual and unsettling studio thrillers of the 1970s: The Tenant. Featuring cinematography by two-time Oscar winner Sven Nykvist (Cries and Whispers) along with an original score by acclaimed composer Philippe Sarde (La Grande Bouffe), Vinegar Syndrome presents the 4K Uhd debut of The Tenant, newly and exclusively restored in 4K from its original camera negative and featuring a wide array of new and archival...

Coralie Fargeat's maximalist body horror, The Substance, has proven to be a divisive title. Some laud it as a feminist horror masterpiece while others believe it to be a perpetuation of the male gaze. Either way, everyone is talking about it, which makes it the perfect time to revisit Fargeat's directorial debut: 2017's Revenge is an incredibly bloody tale of betrayal and, you guessed it, revenge, of the most ruthless and enjoyable variety. Matilda Lutzs Jennifer, a mistress of Richard (Kevin Janssens), murders him and his criminal partners after being raped and left for dead, impaled on a tree branch. Revenge succeeds in taking Jen from a helpless victim to a tougher-than-old-boot heroine, reminding the viewer of transformative female heroes like Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) in The Terminator. However, whilst the action in Revenge is incredible, with brutal violence and copious amounts of blood, it's Fargeat's direction that leaves...

Puella Magi Madoka Magica Gets Official Lolita Dresses: Designs and Release Date Detailed - Main Image
The new movie may not be out yet, but fans can look forward to this impressive Madoka Magica merch, as the Japanese Lolita fashion brand NyaNya recently revealed two official Madoka Magica dresses.
These two dresses are inspired by the iconic outfits of the anime’s two main characters.
While it’s not the most accurate recreation of their magical girl clothes for cosplayers, it’s a must-have for fans into Lolita fashion.
Of course, given the level of detail, these dresses likely won’t come cheap, at least when compared to typical anime apparel.
NyaNya Recreates Madoka and Homura’s Outfits in Lolita Style
NyaNya may not be the most well-known brand internationally, but it has a dedicated fanbase in Lolita fashion circles, especially in Japan.

From the three Korean filmmakers that first made the step towards Hollywood, Park Chan-wook with “Stoker”, Kim Jee-woon with “The Last Stand”, and Bong Joon-ho with “Snowpiercer”, the first one was the most controversial film among the critics, since others considered it a masterpiece and others leveled it lower than Park's South Korean productions. Evidently, Park's English debut has some issues, as the South Korean did not adapt fully to Hollywood aesthetics, but “Stoker” remains a very competent film, while the things Park learned from its shooting definitely helped him change his style for the better in “The Handmaiden”

Initially inspired by an all too common misreading of the classic novel Lolita in her younger years, filmmaker Victoria Singh-Thompson – last featured on Directors Notes with her caught between cultures coming-of-age drama Don’t Forget To Go Home – wanted to depict the complex layers of trauma and how it affects the way we see the world. The resulting film 14 in February is a fragmented and haunting look at the world through the eyes of a young hard-of-hearing schoolgirl who isn’t yet able to process the experiences she has undergone and dissociates from her memories. The immersive and quietly shocking short is as visually still as it is emotionally frantic, with a focused lens pulling us into its young protagonist’s point of view, accented with purposeful jarring sounds which as a package, disturb and succeed in creating the unease that Singh-Thompson wanted. Making a welcome return to Dn’s pages,...

A new joint investigation conducted by the Times, the Sunday Times, and Channel 4 has resulted in serious allegations being made against Russell Brand. The comedian has been accused of committing nonconsensual sexual acts against four women between the years 2006 and 2013. Additional women made claims that Brand exhibited controlling behavior during consensual relationships. All women spoke anonymously, and Brand and his lawyers have denied all allegations.
The first woman alleges that Brand raped her in his Los Angeles home, and provided medical records indicating that she was treated at a rape crisis center at the same day.
Another woman claimed that Brand entered a sexual relationship with her when she was 16 years old (the age of consent in the U.K.) and he was 31. She alleges that he “forced his penis down her throat,” and engaged in manipulative behavior throughout the relationship, referring to her as “the child” and asking...

Multiple women allege that actor and comedian Russell Brand, 48, sexually assaulted them between 2006 and 2013, according to an investigation by Britain’s Channel 4 and newspapers The Times and The Sunday Times.
It was during this period that Brand’s international popularity exploded with his role in 2008’s “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and 2010’s “Get Him to the Greek.” The latter portion of these years is when he was married to singer Katy Perry, from 2010 until their 2012 divorce.
Brand attempted to get ahead of the publication of the story on Friday by releasing a video denying some of the allegations, but admitting to having what he described as a period of promiscuity in his past. He’s regularly talked about having a sex addiction. Brand said that his relationships have all been consensual.
The allegations also include that Brand exhibited “controlling, abusive and predatory behavior,” according to the Times. The women do not know each other.

Cher, who is often regarded as the ‘Goddess of Pop’ due to her pioneering many notable changes in the pop scene is also an avid animal lover, and is focusing greatly on saving animal lives through her charity fund ‘Free the Wild’. Her current priority is the elephant Billy, who has been suffering greatly in LA Zoo.
Back in 2020, during the peak of Covid-19, the singer travelled all the way to Pakistan to save Kaavan, often called ‘the loneliest elephant in the world’. After a very long campaign, Kaavan was finally released from the Islamabad based zoo, and shifted to Cambodia where he has been given much better treatment.
But Billy has been facing worse treatment than Kaavan as he has been bound in the LA Zoo in miserable conditions, for nearly the entirety of his 38-year life so far.

End Times, the latest from The Asylum, will be receiving a VOD and limited theatrical release this Friday, July 14th, and today we’ve gotten our hands on the trailer for the film. Check it out in the embed above!
Written and directed by Jim Towns, whose previous credits include House of Bad and The Possession of Anne, End Times follows a pair of mismatched travelers, Claire and Freddie (Bernadette and Stark), as they try to escape a deadly pandemic that has turned Los Angeles into a zombie-infested wasteland. Claire is a privileged young suburbanite ill-equipped to survive in this hostile new landscape, until she meets Freddie, a retired soldier who lost his daughter to the virus. As they travel together to reach the perimeter, Freddie teaches Claire the skills that will enable Claire to survive, and the uneasy partnership between the two grows into something more akin to a father/daughter relationship.

The ride is as bumpy as the stock market is these days in “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.” A 23-years-on sequel to the still-entertaining original in which Michael Douglas created his signature role of Gordon Gekko, the new film initially takes good and opportunistic advantage of contemporary financial woes to detail the malfeascence of bankers and traders. But the script feels like a pasted-together hodgepodge of elements that co-exist without credibly blending together, topped by a climax that feels particularly hokey in its effort to leave audiences comfortable rather than disturbed by what they’ve just seen. It’s surprising for Oliver Stone to propagate an air of complacency about the financial state of things, but that’s the effect of the outrageously false feel-good ending. There are moments that bare more teeth than “W.” did, but they’re mostly in the first couple of reels.
