George H. Lloyd was a steady, faithful character actor, mostly appearing in Westerns during his years in Hollywood (1933 - 1955). He retired from film acting in 1955, settling down with his wife in a house in Los Angeles city proper. In 1962, he and his wife divorced; as a consequence of the divorce proceedings, Lloyd lost his home and was reduced to living in a run-down section of town on Hoover Street. When he passed away on August 15, 1967 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Los Angeles, the only person standing by him was his one surviving daughter, Georgene Lloyd Kelly.

Lloyd was buried at Los Angeles National Cemetery in West Los Angeles; he had served honorably as a staff sergeant during World War I, and had therefore earned the right to a free burial and headstone in the veteran's cemetery of his choice. The United States Government bestowed upon him an impressive white flat-stone marker with all of his wartime accomplishments inscribed on it.
