  • Trivia
Character comedian of prolific output, who played mild-mannered or harassed little men, bucolic country types and doctors for almost half a century. His looks encouraged casting directors to hire him to play wizened old men. He trained at a military academy and made his stage debut at the age of 7, then starred in the Vitagraph comedy shorts "The Potters". Notable performances in La volonté du mort (1927) and Les compagnons de la Nouba (1933) with Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.
