Received her Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from The Union Institute on May 29, 1999.

Was nominated for the Union Institute's prestigious Circle of Scholars Award in 1999.

She is an award-winning filmmaker and anthropologist. She works to 'preserve and spread' the knowledge and traditions of indigenous community.

Lindsey directed and produced Then There Were None, a 1996 documentary film that chronicles the plight of native Hawaiians. It received the CINE Golden Eagle Award.

She is the first female National Geographic fellow and the first Polynesian explorer at the National Geographic Society.

A descendant of Hawaiian chiefs, English seafarers, and Chinese merchants, Lindsey was raised by native Hawaiian elders who prophesied her role as a steward of ancestral wisdom.

A journey took her to Satawal, Micronesia, where Lindsey, who earned her doctorate specializing in ethnonavigation, documented rare and nearly lost traditions of the palu, Micronesian non-instrument navigators. Her mentor was the renowned Grand Master Navigator-Priest Pius "Mau" Piailug, who, until his death in 2010, was considered the greatest wayfinder in the world.

She received The United Nations Visionary Award in 2010.

She was Woman of the Year" for The Big Island of Hawai'i in 2004.

Lindsey also recorded Satawalese chants and practices that have never been seen or heard by the outside world.

Her mission of ethnographic rescue not only provides a cultural record for future generations, but also serves as the foundation for a global, digital repository, which she is spearheading. In addition to recording vanishing traditions, Lindsey served as executive producer of a multipart television series for PBS in partnership with the National Geographic Society.

Her work recognizes Pius "Mau" Piailug (Mau Piailug) of Micronesia, her mentor with whom she studied ethnonavigation.

She's advised National Geographic's Enduring Voices project, the trustees of the Kamehameha Schools, the University of Hawaii-Hilo, and the 'Imiloa Astronomy Center, and she is a member of the board of PBS Hawaii and of the Tibet Fund for his Holiness the Dalai Lama.
