Vampire Revenge Tale The Harsh Light of Day Finally Getting a Us DVD Release
We haven't heard much about Oliver S. Milburn's The Harsh Light of Day here in the States for the past few years, but thanks to Jinga Films and Mvd, it's finally getting a North American DVD release in just a few more weeks.

Writer/director Milburn's The Harsh Light of Day stars Dan Richardson, Giles Alderson, Sophie Linfield, and Paul Jaques.

Look for the vampire revenge tale, which has been dubbed "Death Wish with fangs," on July 22nd.

Synopsis:

Daniel Shergold (Richardson), a writer on the occult, is a happily married man until the day his wife is murdered and he is left paralyzed in a brutal, seemingly random attack by a group of masked intruders. When the police are unable to find the perpetrators, Daniel is left in a pit of bitterness and anger.

The Harsh Light of Day (2012)
Written and directed by Oliver S. Milburn

Starring: Dan Richardson, Giles Alderson, Sophie Linfield, Niki Felstead, Paul Jaques

American micro-budget filmmakers should do themselves a favor and watch writer/director Oliver S. Milburn’s feature debut The Harsh Light of Day. The compelling UK production, shot on location in Dorset, England, is a model of smart, economical storytelling. It’s also an extremely well acted and produced little film that fully understands, and makes the most of, its budgetary limitations.

During a violent home invasion, occult author Daniel Shergold (a somber Dan Richardson) is brutally beaten while his wife is tortured and killed. All the while the assailants, wearing hoodies and white masks, videotape the grisly events. Surviving the attack, Daniel is left a former shell of himself, crippled and paralyzed by guilt and anger. His only link to the outside world is his compassionate home nurse Fiona (Sophie Linfield...

The coalition government has repeatedly denied his existence, but Plan B proves he's for real with this intense, provocative survey of British urban decay in all its forms. A few too many forms, perhaps, as this crams in so many tales of hardship, exploitation, drugs and violence, and seeks to render them in so many ways (hip-hop numbers, tricksy visuals, flashbacks), it gets a bit carried away. Still, top marks for at least trying to tell it like it is.

George Lucas co-produces this story of the African-American Tuskegee Airmen and their role in the second world war, fighting both Nazis and racism. There's more of an eye for aerial action than grown-up drama, though.

Review: The Harsh Light of Day
Harsh Light Of Day

Stars: Dan Richardson, Giles Alderson, Sophie Linfield, Niki Felstead, Paul Jaques | Written and Directed by Oliver S. Milburn

If you’re making a movie should have at least one of the following: a) a decent script or b) decent actors. If you’ve got both, you’re laughing, if you’ve only got one of those two things, then if it’s good enough, it can make up for the failings of the other. If you have neither a well written script nor actors that can’t act, you’re in trouble.

Unfortunately, The Harsh Light of Day falls into this latter category. The film is a low-budget horror in which a writer is brutally attacked in his own home by video camera-wielding masked thugs. His wife is killed and he is left paralysed. A deal with a mysterious stranger, however, offers him the chance for revenge.

When an injured hitchhiker shows up at their door, each person begins to question if one of their own is the actual killer. Don't Let Him In and Choosing Your Friends Wisely: A Movie Review
*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Image Entertainment.

**here be some minor spoilers.

Director: Kelly Smith.

Writers: Kelly Smith and Chris Andrews.

Cast: Sophie Linfield, Sam Hazeldine, and Gordon Alexander.

Be careful who you pick up on the highway while on holiday. Make sure you stop for a hot blonde but not a grizzled lout. Otherwise, your time away from work will be full of murder and prose of trees needing "to be fed." This is the lesson that Don't Let Him In teaches horror fans as Kelly Smith's first film is confined by its budget while still finding a way to use psychology to tragic effect. As well, a small cast, one primary setting and only a few camera tricks keep this picture in indie territory with the film slightly formulaic. The film is slightly conservative overall.

Paige (Sophie Linfield), Tristan (Gordon Alexander...

Whatever You Do Dont Let Him In And Dont Watch This New Trailer!
You've got to love the fact that the word 'Don't' is so synonymous with horror. Don't do this, don't look in there, don't open that! Edgar Wright's faux-Grindhouse trailer 'Don't epitomises it's use. The word instantly taps into that childlike instinct you get to practically want to do the complete opposite of what your parents expect - expecially when told Not to do it in the first place. Which brings us on to news from the second movie of the day to feature this four letter example. 'Don't Let Him In' is the new Brit slasher film from director Kelly Smith. Smith co-wrote the script along with Chris Andrews and the flick stars Sophie Linfield ('The Football Factory'), Sam Hazeldine, Gordon Alexander, Rhys Meredith, Gemma Harvey and Poppy Grout. And now you can check out a gruesome new trailer from the movie below!...
