Another blast from the past for horror movie fans is making a comeback. Urban Legend, a slasher movie franchise that began with the original film released in 1998, is now set to get the reboot treatment.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, an Urban Legend reboot is now in early development. The film will be produced by Coin Operated's Gary Dauberman, a producer and writer on the new horror film Until Dawn, which hits theaters this weekend. Shanrah Wakefield will write the screenplay for the Urban Legend reboot with original Urban Legend producer Neal Moritz in talks to serve as a producer on the new film. A director hasn't yet been named, and no cast members are attached.

After seven seasons, the Bordelon family’s journey came to an end. “Queen Sugar” signed off on Tuesday night with a poetic series finale centered around the importance of family — in all its forms.

Series creator Ava DuVernay wrote the finale, titled “For They Existed,” and returned to the director’s chair for the first time since helming the pilot and second episode.

DuVernay, created the drama series an executive produces, returns to the director’s chair of the show for the first time since Season 1, when she helmed the first two episodes. Since the first season, DuVernay has written for the series a handful of times, with her last credit being as one of four writers on the penultimate episode of Season 6, which aired last fall. Production for the final episode has already begun in New Orleans.

The news comes hours ahead of the beloved drama’s Season 6 finale (airing Tuesday night), and confirms what many fans suspected as DuVernay and several Queen Sugar stars have moved on to other projects. As for Season 7, writing is already underway and production is set to begin in early 2022 in New Orleans.

“Queen Sugar” has been renewed for Season 7 at OWN, with that season set to be the show’s last. Writing on the new season has begun, with production set to begin in early 2022.

“To everything, there is a season,” said series creator Ava DuVernay. “And my producing partner Paul Garnes and I have had seven gorgeous seasons making ‘Queen Sugar’ with a remarkable cast and crew, alongside our partners at OWN and Warner Bros. Television. To write and produce seven seasons of a modern drama centered on a Black family is a radical act in our industry and a triumph that has far exceeded every hope I held. Now I feel strongly that the story, which began as a sunrise of a suggestion from Oprah, is ready for its sunset as a dream fully realized. ‘Queen Sugar’ has been one of the true joys of my career and my gratitude is buoyant and boundless.

Exclusive: Queen Sugar is coming to an end with its seventh season in 2022.

“It’s a radical act that it lasted this long, and it’s a testament to every single pair of hands that touched it and I am so proud of that,” series creator Ava DuVernay told Deadline today of the acclaimed OWN drama executive produced by Oprah Winfrey.

With tonight’s Season 6 finale, the 2016 debuting rural Louisiana-set series will return next year for what is expected to be a 13-episode final run.

The Casting Society of America will host a virtual town hall on February 1 and a three-day online open call for for Black actors from Feb. 19-21. Both events are part of Csa’s Black Actors Initiative, which is designed to effect real change in how actors in historically underrepresented communities are afforded access to job opportunities.

The town hall will include an in-depth discussion “to forge actionable changes in the representation of these actors,” Csa said. OWN may be saying goodbye to The Haves and the Have Nots TV series but Queen Sugar isn't going anywhere. The cable channel has renewed Queen Sugar for a sixth season ahead of the drama's fifth season premiere next month, on Tuesday, February 16th. It's likely that season six will launch in 2022.
