They received a leading 29 percent of fans' votes in Gold Derby's recent poll, a double-digit lead over The Daily Show host Jon Stewart and stand-up comedian John Mulaney, both of whom nabbed 16 percent support.

The long-running Newport Beach Film Fest is set to launch a TV counterpart this June. The org revealed Wednesday that it will hold the inaugural Newport Beach TV Fest from June 5 to June 8 at the Lido Theater and The Port Theater in Newport Beach, Calif. The four-day event promises a “celebration of television artistry and creative achievements” whiling bringing together “industry professionals and audiences for a unique celebration of established and emerging talent, networks, and streaming services.”

Timing of the Newport Beach TV Fest is strategic to hit right before the Emmy nomination voting window, and as FYC events wrap up. According to the festival, it plans to attract “he largest gathering of Guild and Television Academy voters outside of Los Angeles or New York” and “honor creativity in television while offering a platform for innovative storytelling in front of a dynamic audience.”

The Television Academy has cemented Sept. 14 as the date for the 2025 Emmys (see the updated calendar), so now is the perfect time to start thinking about who'd make the perfect host. And we've got some ideas.

First and foremost, Emmy hosts have to be fun. Likable. Energetic. Great on their feet. And, apparently, father-son duos are in.

Following last year's successful team-up of Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, we'd love to see the tradition continue on with Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr. They tick all of the above boxes and — bonus points — are currently headlining the sitcom Poppa's House on CBS, the same network that's broadcasting this year's Emmy Awards. That gives them an inside advantage, as the host almost always has a working relationship with the home network.

Only Murders in the Building has been one of my favourite shows of recent years, and it’s been getting better and better with each season. Production on the series’ fifth season recently began, with Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez returning as Charles-Haden Savage, Oliver Putnam, and Mabel Mora, respectively. Deadline has reported the first major addition, with Keegan-Michael Key joining the cast of Only Murders in the Building season 5.

As you might expect, plot and character details are being kept under wraps at this time, but Key is said to be playing a recurring role in the new season. Michael Cyril Creighton will also be returning as Howard Morris, the cat-loving resident of the Arconia who has become more invested in the amateur sleuths with each season.

Beloved comedian actor Martin Short has finally won his first SAG Award. Short received the award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a comedy series for playing Oliver Putnam, the sometime Broadway director and murder-solving podcast co-host on the Hulu comedy “Only Murders in the Building.”

Unfortunately, Short couldn’t attend the ceremony, so presenters Joey King and Jack Quaid accepted on his behalf. Short’s “Only Murders” costar Steve Martin posted on Feb. 21 that Short contracted Covid at the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special.

“Only Murders in the Building” Season 5 is slated to start production “relatively soon” according to EP Dan Fogelman, who teased the new installment would welcome in “more big guest stars.”

“I was just texting with Steve [Martin] and Marty [Short] and John Hoffman this morning,” Fogelman told TheWrap in an interview Wednesday promoting his new Hulu series “Paradise.” “We can expect more big guest stars that’ll probably be announced sooner rather than later.”

While Seinfeld remains one of the most beloved sitcoms on TV, there have been plenty of shows that have come out in the last decade or so that are equally worthy of praise. While everyone may have genres that they gravitate towards, and some people favor drama over action, or sci-fi over fantasy, most people tend to enjoy a good sitcom. Sitcoms are comforting, relaxing, and enjoyable in a way that few other shows achieve.

As wildfires continue to ravage areas of Los Angeles, thousands have tragically lost their homes, including several Hollywood stars.

The fire started Tuesday in Pacific Palisades, before spreading to parts of Malibu and Santa Monica overnight. Though the Palisades and Eaton fires were at zero containment for days, as of Monday, the Palisades Fire was 14 percent contained, while The Eaton fire in Altadena was roughly one-third contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The Kenneth Fire, which scorched 1,052 acres near the border of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, was fully contained; so was the Hurst fire, which burned 779 acres in the area around Sylmar.

On Wednesday night, another fire, named the Sunset Fire, broke out in the Hollywood Hills, endangering the iconic landmark the Hollywood Bowl, among other tourist destinations. Even though Joshua Jackson’s home was destroyed in the Los Angeles wildfires, the actor says he feels “incredibly lucky.”

“First and most importantly, all the people closest to me affected by the fire are Ok,” he said in a statement shared via his rep. “My daughter, my family, my neighbors all made it out safely. Sadly my beautiful home did not survive the fires. But today, I feel incredibly lucky to be surrounded by the people I love.”

Jackson’s Topanga Canyon home, which he bought in 2001, was one of those destroyed by the Palisades Fire, which broke out Tuesday morning. It has burned through some 23,000 acres.

At least 24 people have died in the fires, with 16 more missing. The biggest fires are the Palisades Fire, which is near Brentwood, and the Eaton Fire. As of Sunday morning, 11 percent of the Palisades fire and 27 percent of the Eaton fire had been contained.

The Producers Guild has postponed (once again) announcing its 2025 PGA Awards nominees in movie and TV categories as wildfires continue to burn in Los Angeles.

After initially delaying its nominations announcement until Sunday, the PGA will now announce its nominees sometime next week, with the group saying the delay was being made “out of care and concern for those being affected by the fires.”

This past Thursday, the American Society of Cinematographers moved its awards nomination announcement, originally set for Thursday, to Monday, Jan. 13.

It was also announced Thursday that the LGBTQ entertainment critics’ Dorian film awards voting window for nominations has been extended to Monday, Jan. 13, with nominations set to be announced Friday, Jan. 17.

The flames don’t distinguish, it has engulfed modest homes to multi-million dollar mansions of celebrities. Los Angeles County has been hit by a string of terrible wildfires that have forced the evacuation of thousands of people and destroyed over 1,100 structures. In this unprecedented crisis that has affected both wealthy areas and historic districts, at least five people have lost their lives.

Some of the worst damage has been seen in the Pacific Palisades area. Billy Crystal, an actor, and his wife Janice lost their 46-year-old home. In a sincere statement, they showed their sadness by saying, “Words cannot describe the enormity of the destruction we are seeing and feeling.” Our house was filled with love all over.

The fires started on Tuesday and have grown into six different ones across the county since then. On Wednesday night, a new fire broke out in Runyon Canyon in the Hollywood Hills; evacuation orders were issued immediately. Unlike most wildfires in California, these fires generally happen in rural areas near cities.

At 10:30 p.m. local time Tuesday night, Cary Elwes filmed his evacuation from Malibu. While driving down the winding Los Angeles roads adjacent to what has been described as the apocalyptic Palisades Fire, the Princess Bride star briefly hit the breaks to capture the blaze out his window.

He posted the video to Instagram with the hashtag #Biblical. The following day, he shared an update that he and his family were safe, but that their home had been destroyed.

“Sadly, we did lose our home but we are grateful to have survived this truly devastating fire,” he wrote on Instagram on Wednesday. “Our hearts go out to all the families impacted by this tragic event and we also wish to extend our gratitude to all the firefighters, first responders and law enforcement who worked so tirelessly through the night and are still at it.”

Anna Faris’ Pacific Palisades home has been destroyed by the Palisades Fire, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

“Anna and her family are safe and grateful,” the actress’ rep shared on Wednesday.

The Scary Movie and Just Friends star bought her home in 2019 following her split from actor Chris Pratt; the pair share son Jack, 12. She is married to cinematographer Michael Barrett, whom she met while making the 2018 Overboard remake.

Faris, who hosts the Anna Faris Is Unqualified podcast, is among the 130,000 Los Angeles residents who are being impacted by the six fires that continue to blaze through L.A. County heading into Wednesday night, also including the Eaton, Hurst, Woodley and Lidia fires. The apocalyptic fire, fueled by Santa Ana winds, started Tuesday in Pacific Palisades, before spreading to parts of Malibu and Santa Monica overnight.

The sixth blaze, the Sunset Fire, broke out Wednesday night in Los Angeles, endangering iconic landmark the Hollywood Bowl.

As of the afternoon of Wednesday, January 8th, the devastating Los Angeles wildfires have claimed five lives and destroyed more than 1,100 structures. Among those affected are actors such as John Goodman, Anthony Hopkins, Billy Crystal, and Eugene Levy, who all lost their homes in the fires.

The Kimpton La Peer Hotel, just off Melrose Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood’s Design District, quickly filled up Tuesday and remains full through Thursday with fire storm evacuees. “There are lots of families and pets running around the hotel. We have laid out a grazing station for all guests in the lobby, offering warm chocolate chip cookies, cocoa, snacks and drinks for everyone to enjoy during this difficult time,” a La Peer spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter.

I’ve had this house for almost 30 years. It looks like it was lost in the fire last nite,” she writes. “There’s a rainbow shining on it which I’m taking as a sign of hope for all creatures who have been affected by this tragedy.”

The wildfires devastating Los Angeles will force Universal Studios Hollywood to shut down Wednesday.

The NBCUniversal-owned theme park intends to reopen Thursday, if weather conditions allow. The Universal lot, which borders the theme park, is open to essential employees only, with the studio assisting impacted employees.

“Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk will be closed today as a result of the extreme winds and fire conditions,” according to a statement posted to its website. “We will continue to assess the situation and expect to open for business tomorrow. The safety of our team members and our guests is our top priority.”

Closures of Universal Hollywood are a rare occurrence (the longest closure continues to be during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020), though fires are a perpetual threat in southern California. Disneyland, located in Anaheim, is not impacted by the fires as of now.

Firefighters are currently battling a terrible fire across Los Angeles, including the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, prompting many families to be forced to evacuate, and sadly causing major damage and destruction of homes.
