Born in 1927, orphan, Philippe Lemaire was tempted to enter the French Navy before starting a movie career in 1945. He became famous in the 50s and 60s for his roles with Jeanne Moreau or Michele Morgan under the direction of Roger Vadim, Jean-Pierre Melville or Alexandre Astruc. In March 2004, one day after his 77th birthday, he comitted suicide by throwing himself under the subway in Paris. He was married to one of France biggest star, Juliette Greco, between 1953 and 1956 and is survived by their daughter, Laurence Lemaire.
