John Lazear
John Lazear, SOC is a Cinematographer / Director of Photography based in Hollywood California. Lazear is member of the International Cinematographers Guild, and was inducted into the prestigious Society of Camera Operators .

As Director of Photography he specializes in shooting feature films in the 35mm film format.. A native of Los Angeles, born in a small hospital nestled between Disney studios and NBC studios John was destined for the movie industry. John Lazear SOC has been fascinated with the art and science of capturing images since a child. On making his first 16mm documentary at 12, Lazear knew he wanted to make movies. In College Lazear tried a number of artistic endeavors including painting a historic 300 foot x 20 foot mural that still stands in Studio City, Zamboni driver, live action special effects. Stunts and landscaping design where he won several awards.

After college Lazear was recruited to work for Aims Media a film distribution. Lazear earned the position of "Executive in Charge of Domestic Licensing for AIMS Media". While very successful at this position Lazear longed to do more,

Lazear began his film production education under the wing of the multiple Emmy award winning cinematographer and President of the International Cinematographers Guild, I.A.T.S.E. #600, George Spiro Dibie ASC. Under George's tutelage John learned how to "see light" and was taught this true professional discipline. Throughout the years working as a camera assistant and finally as a Camera operator John has had to fortune to be influenced and work with great cinematographers and learn the subtle skills needed to create emotion for the sake of realizing the director vision by masters of the art of cinematography. As a DOP and Camera Operator, John has experience with specialty camera rigs, SFX techniques, helicopter shooting, cranes & jibs, underwater, blue/green screen, and car mounted stunt cameras, His work has taken him to travel the world and has experience with working with crews speaking multiple languages. John Lazear SOC is one of the few cinematographers that still shoots in the 35mm film format yet can seamlessly slide into today's digital capture formats.

Besides the skill as a visual artist, John has honed his art of shooting low cost movies. Making films, fast, on a low budget and utilizing unskilled labor is a challenge that take years of trial, failure and success. After making dozens of low cost features John has solidified the techniques to make an inexpensive film look like a higher cost production and make the budget and on time.

John has kept up with the leading edge of technology and has worked with the video walls and virtual production and is actively helping to drive the development of the this exciting new tool.

John holds several awards for cinematography and many more nominations.

His present goal is to partner with a Director to collaborate and be able to forge a movie that will tell a story that will stand the test of time.
