While it is true that most Netflix original films that were released this year are not that good, there were also some extremely entertaining films, from Tom Hardy‘s gritty action thriller film Havoc to Vince Vaughn‘s touching comedy film Nonnas. Exterritorial is a German action thriller film written and directed by Christian Zübert. The 2025 film follows Sara Wulf, a former Special Forces soldier visiting the US Consulate in Germany with her son, but when he suddenly goes missing, she does everything she can to find him.

The creators behind Hollywood’s latest and upcoming animated projects, including “Inside Out 2,” “Transformers One” and more, were celebrated at Variety‘s 10 Animators to Watch. The event and cocktail reception, presented by Nickelodeon, were held at The Aster in Hollywood on July 10.

Variety Senior Awards Editor Clayton Davis kicked off the ceremony by introducing Josh Cooley, director of “Toy Story 4” and the upcoming “Transformers One,” who presented Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation President Ramsey Naito with the inaugural Executive Impact in Animation award.

Spongebob Squarepants film Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie is heading to Netflix, here’s the trailer.

Spongebob Squarepants is one of the most iconic, not to mention, successful, shows to emerge from Nickelodeon. Created by Stephen Hillenburg in 1999, the show grew into a huge hut and it is still running today. Clocking up 14 series and almost 300 episodes, it’s the highest rated show on the network.

The show follows the adventures of the tutular anthrpomorohic sponge and his friends, including Sandy, Squidward, Mr Krabs and his beloved snail Gary, under the sea in Bikini Bottom.

The character first made the leap to the big screen in 2004, and since then there have been two further films – Sponge Out Of Water in 2015 and Sponge On The Run in 2021. A fourth theatrical film remains in development.

The latest addition to the Scu – Spongebob Cinematic Universe – is spin-off Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie.

This month, make a note of the streaming premiere of the 2023’s “Memory,” starring Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard, arriving on the first of the month exclusively for Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers.

Paramount+ will also add over 100 film titles to its collection this month, including “Boyz N' The Hood,” “Grease,” “Trainspotting,” and everything in between. Like “Memory,” many of the titles are only available with a subscription to a Paramount+ with Showtime plan, but you can sign up for the tier with a seven-day free trial ($11.99 per month after the trial period).

Exclusive: SpongeBob SquarePants voice actor Mr. Lawrence is writing and directing a comedy-horror toon billed as “The Office meets Frankenstein.”

Mr. Lawrence (real name Douglas Osowski) is working with Canadian Copernicus Studios on Death Castle, which is currently being developed as a six-minute short that will act as the pilot for a full adult animation series. The actor is best known for his work on Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob, having written scripts, animated scenes and voiced several characters including Plankton, Potty the Parrot and Larry the Lobster.

He will be writer and director on Death Castle, which is being positioned as “a satire of scary monster movies paired with a screwball relationship comedy.” Further plot details are under wraps for now.

“SpongeBob SquarePants” has been renewed for a 15th season at Nickelodeon ahead of the animated series’ milestone 25th anniversary next year.

Season 15, which includes 26 episodes, will continue to follow the nautical adventures of the titular incurable optimist and his undersea friends, Patrick Star, Sandy Cheeks, Squidward, Mr. Krabs and Plankton.

The new episodes will follow the characters embarking on a range of situations, including SpongeBob thinking he has developed an allergy to Krabby Patties, Plankton learning self-defense from Sandy, Mr. Krabs working out at the gym and more.

In a new “SpongeBob Universe” special trailer, three realities of SpongeBob will merge together as part of a three-night crossover event called “The Tidal Zone.”

Characters from the “SpongeBob Universe” including “SpongeBob SquarePants,” “Kamp Koral” and “The Patrick Star Show” are set to collide in a first-ever crossover special. The event will air on Nickelodeon, spanning over the course of three nights, starting on Friday, Jan. 13 and ending on Sunday, Jan. 15.

In the trailer, viewers watch as characters from the three dimensions hilariously explode, dance and crash into one another during their epic adventure.
