    • James Last was born on April 17, 1929 in Bremen, Germany. He was a composer and actor, known for Kill Bill: Volume I (2003), Ocean's 8 (2018) and Petits meurtres entre amis (1994). He was married to Christine Grundner and Waltraut. He died on June 9, 2015 in West Palm Beach, Florida, USA.

  • He was a big-band leader, composer, and arranger. He sold millions of records with his trademark "happy music", upbeat versions of pop and classical favorites performed by his orchestra.
  • His record company changed his name to James to make him sound less German when his debut album came out in the UK. He was not consulted about the change, but went along with it.
  • As a young man in Germany, he narrowly avoided being drafted for military service during WWII, being too young by 17 days.
  • His brothers were also involved in music: Kai Warner - bandleader and musician, and Robert Last - drummer and bandleader.
