A month after NBC canceled its Night Court revival following three seasons, Melissa Rauch is bidding farewell to the show.
The star and executive producer recently shared a heartfelt statement about the end of the sitcom after trying “everything in our power” to save the revival of the 1984-’92 show, which premiered in 2023.
“I have held off on posting anything about Night Court not continuing until I knew we did everything in our power to find another home for it,” she wrote on Instagram. “Perhaps it was being raised on The Goonies ‘Never Say Die’ motto or straight up denial that I didn’t want this incredibly special experience to come to an end. That said, after turning over all the stones there were to be turned over, we’ve learned that it is officially the hour to say ‘farewell.’ Or at least ‘Until next time.'”

Things were looking grim for the Melissa Rauch-led Night Court reboot at NBC following its cancellation after three seasons. Despite hopes from the team that the sitcom could find a new home for courtroom hijinks by shopping the series, initial reports from TV Line revealed that nobody was biting on bringing back Judge Abby Stone and her staff for another run. Now, Rauch has delivered the show its sentence. In a recent post on Instagram, she finally addressed the show's end and revealed that, despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the Manhattan municipal court will be remaining closed.
"I have held off on posting anything about Night Court not continuing until I knew we did everything in our power to find another home for it," Rauch said to open her post. As a longtime fan of the original Reinhold Weege series starring Harry Anderson, the reboot was a...

As TVLine’s Inside Line column reported earlier this month, early efforts to shop the sitcom revival had come up empty. As such, the eventual outlook was not looking great. And now it is official.

The State of the Race
Oddly enough, the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy race is a bit dependent on how many voters watched “Shrinking” on Apple TV+. No one made the cut in this category for Season 1, including Harrison Ford, but many Emmy prognosticators have him, Michael Urie, Brett Goldstein, and even Ted McGinley all in the mix for an Emmy nomination.

For your consideration… or not.
Earlier this month, Alexis Bledel withdrew herself from Emmy consideration due to a rule change. The actress, who won Best Drama Guest Actress in 2017 for The Handmaid's Tale, made an appearance in the show's series finale, but the new rule prohibits her from competing in guest for the same show because of her prior 2018 nomination in supporting. Instead of submitting in supporting, Bledel took herself out entirely. And she's far from the first star to do so.
Here are seven other times actors voluntarily bowed out of the Emmy race.
John Larroquette, Night Court
Larroquette dominated Best Comedy Supporting Actor in the '80s, winning the category four years in a row from 1985 to 1988 for his turn as Dan Fielding. And then he decided four was enough, withdrawing his name in 1989, three years before Night Court ended. "As we got to that fifth season, I...

Well, it looks like the gavel has come down on Night Court, and this time, there’s no appeal. Yep, NBC’s revival of the beloved ‘80s courtroom comedy brought back all the quirky charm, fast-paced humor, and of course, John Larroquette as the ever-sarcastic Dan Fielding. Definitely, it had everything, from nostalgia, eccentric defendants, awkward flirtations, to bailiffs who knew how to throw side-eyes.
For three seasons, Night Court gave us throwback laughs with a modern twist. Sadly, just when we started to feel like the courtroom was back in session for good, NBC shut the door right to our faces. Yup, the revival has officially been canceled after season 3, leaving us with courtroom chaos wondering what went wrong. Of course, it had its loyal audience and a strong start, but unfortunately, the show struggled to hold its case in NBC’s primetime lineup. So, guys, the court is adjourned and for good.

NBC’s Night Court revival brought a fresh comedic spark to prime time with its quirky courtroom antics, offbeat characters, and nostalgic nods to the original 1984 classic. Starring Melissa Rauch as Judge Abby Stone—daughter of the late Judge Harry Stone—the show balanced zany humor with heartwarming moments, winning over longtime fans and new viewers alike. After a successful three-season run and decent viewership, fans were hopeful for a fourth. However, the gavel has dropped on Night Court for good—NBC has officially canceled the series, and while there was a brief effort to shop it around for a season 4, things aren’t looking promising for a return. Here’s a full breakdown of what we know.
Will there be a Night Court Season 4?

The 2024-2025 TV season has ended, and now audience members can look forward to networks throwing up new shows and brand-new seasons of their favorite ones. However, prior to the network shows taking a break, several shows were axed. Over at NBC, in early May, the verdict came in regarding the network's courtroom comedy, Night Court. Starring Melissa Rauch as Judge Abby Stone, it was announced that the show, which is a reboot of the classic Reinhold Weege sitcom, will not be returning for a fourth season. With NBC locking up the gates of the courthouse, will we see the comedy continue elsewhere?
While we Night Court fans might be hoping that NBC might be willing to shop the comedy series out, recent reports don't offer much hope. Per TV Line, "early efforts to shop the sitcom revival have thus far come up empty," the report says in part, adding,...

The chances of Night Courtseason 4 getting saved get a disappointing update. Debuting on NBC in January 2023, with Dan Rubin as showrunner, the reboot of the popular 1980s sitcom is headlined by The Big Bang Theory alum Melissa Rauch as Abby Stone. The daughter of the late Harry Stone, Abby soon links up with original Night Court character Dan Fielding (John Larroquette). Although the comedy got off to a strong start, ratings dropped sharply soon after its high-profile premiere. The reboot was cancelled in May after three seasons.
It had been mentioned that Warner Bros. Television, one of the production companies behind the reboot, would shop the series to other potential platforms after it was axed by NBC. But in an update from TVLine, it's mentioned that the chances of Night Court season 4 happening are “not great”:

Music always plays a large role at the annual TV upfronts, as media buyers, journalists, execs and other attendees are ushered in and out of these showcases to loud playlists — often spun by celebrity DJs. But this year, one number heard throughout the week came with a hefty dose of irony: Doechii’s popular track “Anxiety.”
In the song, Doechii sings about how her anxiety “keep on trying me / My anxiety, can’t shake it off of me.” Perhaps a bit too on the nose for the media congloms to be piping into Radio City Music Hall, the Hammerstein Ballroom and other upfronts venues. After all, no matter how hard media execs try to spin that things are fine — that’s hardly the case: Production is down, budgets keep getting slashed and studios like Paramount Global (still awaiting news on its Skydance merger) continue to be the subject of speculation about their ultimate survival.

George Wendt, who bellied up to the bar to portray the beer-quaffing everyman Norm Peterson for all 11 seasons of the fabled NBC sitcom Cheers, has died. He was 77.
Wendt died peacefully in his sleep at home, his family confirmed early Tuesday morning.

The premise of the 2015 HBO series "The Brink" seems ripe for comedic potential and salient political satire. Among the show's main characters are the ultra-horny United States Secretary of State Walter Larson (Tim Robbins), and Alex Talbot (oft-underrated blockbuster champ Jack Black) a random Foreign Service officer who is assigned to Islamabad as it stands on the brink of a nuclear crisis. It seems a local radical has taken it upon himself to declare World War III has officially begun, and the story follows that revelation as Larson and Talbot incompetently oversee the matter. The show also stars Aasif Mandvi, Pablo Schreiber, John Larroquette, and Esai Morales as the U.S. President.
Robbins and Black had worked together on several occasions before "The Brink," usually on political projects that satirized or lambasted restrictive and corrupt American institutions. Black appeared in Robbins' films "Bob Roberts" (which marked Black's feature debut), "Dead Man Walking,...

The crazy courtroom won't be back for the 2025-26 TV season. NBC has cancelled Night Court and any plans for a fourth season. The show's third season, which aired 18 episodes, ended on a cliffhanger on Tuesday.

Nostalgia is not, inherently, a bad thing. Classic films like Federico Fellini's "L'Avventura," George Lucas' "American Graffiti," and Richard Linklater's "Dazed and Confused" pine away for carefree youth, but they're also careful to acknowledge that the end of the party is on the horizon. Those tales are told from a place of melancholy remove. To quote Thomas Wolfe, "Going back home is a real boneheaded idea."

NBC is cleaning house ahead of its 2025 Upfront presentation on Monday, and the casualties are already piling up.
The network has canceled multiple series in one fell swoop, with Night Court, Lopez vs Lopez, The Irrational, Found, and Suits: LA all officially off the schedule. And with the day still young, there’s reason to believe more are coming.
Let’s break down what’s been cut — and what that says about where NBC is headed next season.

After sentencing several TV series to cancellation, NBC is bringing the gavel down on them. The Night Court reboot, starring Melissa Rauch, is the first series to get cancelled. The courtroom comedy lasted three seasons, with Lacretta and John Larroquette co-starring in the shenanigans. After a strong start, the show’s year-to-year numbers steadily declined. Nostalgia is a powerful tool in Hollywood, but with so much competition, it shows that springboards from fond memories eventually fade.
According to Deadline, there was an effort to bring the show back for a fourth and final season with a shorter episode count, but it didn’t happen. It’s still possible that Warner Bros. Television could shop the show somewhere else.

NBC’s brutal clearout of shows has claimed a nostalgic victim as Night Court will not be renewed for a fourth season. The revival of the 1984 sitcom scored a big win when it originally returned, with several original cast members reprising their old roles, but according to viewership figures the shine very quickly wore off, with Seasons 2 and 3 seeing a large drop-off in numbers.
Warner Bros. Television may decide to try and shop the series around to other networks and streaming platforms, as according to Deadline, there was a strong case made for the show to be given one final season to round out the series. NBC has canceled Lopez vs. Lopez and Night Court after three seasons apiece. The cancellations come on the final business day before NBC’s upfront — when networks pitch advertisers on their coming slates — on Monday.
Night Court aired its third season finale, which will now serve as a series ender, on Tuesday — although sources say Warner Bros. TV, which produces the show with Universal TV, may try to find a new home for the series.
This Night Court stars Melissa Rauch (who also executive produces) as Abby Stone, a judge in Manhattan’s often chaotic night court and the daughter of Harry Stone, the lead character in the original 1984-92 series (who was played by the late Harry Anderson).
John Larroquette reprised his role from the original series as attorney Dan Fielding; the season three cast also includes Lacretta, Nyambi Nyambi and Wendie Malick. It’s the end of the road for the “Night Court” reboot and “Lopez vs. Lopez” at NBC.
NBC opted not to renew the Melissa Rauch-led sitcom or the George and Mayan Lopez comedy series for a fourth season, TheWrap has learned. The news comes just days after “Night Court” aired its Season 3 finale, which left off on a cliffhanger surrounding the romantic life of judge Abby Stone (Rauch). “Lopez vs. Lopez” wrapped its run in February.
The cuts come ahead of NBC’s upfront presentation on Monday, with the network having to make tough decisions to make room for NBA programming starting this fall.
While “Night Court” won’t return to NBC, Warner Bros. TV, which produces the show, is hoping to find a new home for series, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.

Night Court is no longer in session: NBC has cancelled the courtroom comedy revival after three seasons, TVLine has confirmed, though it is possible that Warner Bros. Television could shop the sitcom around to another network or streamer.
The continuation of the 1984-92 courtroom comedy starred Melissa Rauch (The Big Bang Theory) as Judge Abby Stone, who presided over the same New York City night court as her late father Harry Stone (played on the original series by Harry Anderson, who died in 2018). John Larroquette reprised his role as attorney Dan Fielding, who served as the night court’s public defender.

Exclusive: NBC’s Night Court is no longer in session as the multi-camera comedy starring Melissa Rauch is not being renewed for a fourth season.
The news is not surprising since NBC has been looking to make cuts as it is preparing for basketball coverage next season under the $2.5B a year deal with the NBA. Night Court, a reboot the original 1984 sitcom, was considered vulnerable — after a strong early run early on, the comedy has been posting significant year-to-year drop-off this season as the nostalgia factor may have worn off.
Still, Deadline understands there was a late push for Night Court to return for a shorter fourth and final season, which was unsuccessful. There is a possibility for it to be shopped elsewhere by studio Warner Bros. Television.
Night Court was one of three multi-camera comedy series on NBC this season. Freshman hit Happy’s Place has been renewed for next season.

After eighteen humor-filled episodes that left viewers eager for more, Night Court Season 3 ended less than twenty-four hours ago with such an epic cliffhanger. The beloved comedy is currently awaiting a renewal from NBC, but in the meantime, series star Melissa Rauch has shared her expectations for a potential fourth season. The actress told TV Insider that the show’s team has a “spectacular plan” in place for the future, which also includes her former Big Bang Theory co-star Simon Helberg.
In the final episode of Night Court Season 3, Helberg surprisingly appeared as Abby’s (Rauch) husband, Spencer, walking in when his wife was preparing to get engaged to on-again, off-again boyfriend Jake (Ryan Hansen). That marks the second time that The Big Bang Theory alums play an onscreen married couple, as fans may recall their portrayal of the fan-favorite Howard and Bernadette in the hit CBS show that ran...

Night Court is about to adjourn for Season 3, but there are still two more episodes to go before Abby Stone (Melissa Rauch) and her overworked colleagues clock out. A double-feature finale will air this Tuesday that will send the season off with a big bang (pun intended), including several exciting guests and potentially big developments for the Manhattan Municipal Court's judge. Collider can exclusively share a new sneak peek at one of the new additions — Critics' Choice Award-winning Shrinking star Michael Urie — who will be making his debut as "The Funnest Judge in the City" in Episode 17. Abby will come face to face with her new rival, determined to prove that he isn't as fun as everyone believes he is.
In the sneak peek, Judge Toby Nulman (Urie) is taking selfies with his adoring fans during a session that ran a bit later than expected. When Abby tries to speak with him,...

If there was a horror movie remake scales of justice, it would be tipping heavily toward the side reading “Failure.” Most of the time, the film being revisited is a classic and really begs the question as to why it needs to be made again in the first place. Every once in a while, though, a remake will come along that defies expectations—one that deserves to be given a chance because of the care that was clearly taken to quench the thirst of fans of the original as well as bring new fans into the family. The Marcus Nispel-directed Texas Chainsaw Massacre from 2003 is one of those films. It hit all the right notes, captured the right tone, and cut off the right limbs.

At long last, Bernadette and Howard have reunited after The Big Bang Theory. Entertainment Weekly has exclusively shared the first images from the upcoming Season 3 finale of Night Court that finally brings Simon Helberginto the Manhattan Municipal Court to stand before Judge Abby Stone, played by his former on-screen partner Melissa Rauch. Melissa Rauch is serious about comedy. Or maybe it's just that in her role as Judge Abby Stone on NBC's reboot of Night Court, she gets a power rush from waving her gavel around.
"What I've really gotten a high on in playing [Abby] is the judgy powers of having the decision in the palm of my hand," she tells Gold Derby. "There is such a control that comes with that, just by making a decision and going like this—" she mimes banging, "and going for the gavel!"
Night Court is, so far, one of TV's real reboot success stories. With two Emmy nominations and a third season that just wrapped, it's both a riff on and a new way of looking at the original, which aired on NBC from 1984 to 1992. Rauch's Stone is the daughter of original main character Judge Harry Stone, but that's not the only call-back; John Larroquette,...

For fans of the original Night Court, the first three seasons of the Night Court revival have been a welcome gift. Larroquette, for one, was thrilled with the idea of the new judge being Stone’s daughter. After all, he said, working with Anderson and the other cast members on the original always felt like family. Bernadette and Howard Wolowitz are officially getting back together! Night Court's upcoming Season 3 finale on May 6 will be a big one with back-to-back episodes welcoming Melissa Rauch's Big Bang Theory partner, Simon Helberg, to the Manhattan Municipal Court. He's not the only member of the wider Big Bang universe to be swinging by for some zany courtroom antics, though, as Raegan Revford, best known for playing Sheldon Cooper's sister Missy on Young Sheldon and, more recently, Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage, will also have a major role to play in the final episode. Rounding things out is the return of original series veteran Marsha Warfield once more as Roz Russell for the first of the two episodes, ensuring that the season will adjourn with a bang.
Exactly who Helberg will be playing remains a mystery, but the cameo is being described as a potential "game-changer" for Rauch's Judge Abby Stone.
