Self-taught, David Lanzmann made his film debut in 1996. He launched into short and medium-length films with growing success, notably with "Les Chaussettes sales" (2001), a film that he co-produced, wrote, shoot, edit and direct alone. He obtained numerous selections and prestigious prizes including the FIPRESCI in the biggest international festivals. In 2005, he signed his first feature film "Doo Wop" which he produced, wrote, edited and directed. The film met with great success and was released in several countries. He was selected at ACID in Cannes and other festivals such as Karlovy Vary, Mannheim and Tiburon. He won several prizes including the FIPRESCI. Following this first film, he revived his passion for music by following many artists in concert. He collaborates among others with Bootsy Collins, Larry Graham. Prince, with whom he had already collaborated on his first feature film "DooWop", called on him to film it live, notably in Paris at the Grand Palais in October 2009. He devoted himself almost exclusively to work with Prince and music while he was continuing to write scenarios. In 2015, he came back to the set and directed more than 300 episodes for French television. In 2020, he embarked on his second feature film "Savage days" produced by Julien Madon completely independently. Now, he has three feature films ready to shoot : one very intimate one based on father and son relationships, which is scheduled to be shot in English in New York.

He is the son of lyricist and novelist Jacques Lanzmann and the nephew of "Shoah" director Claude Lanzmann.
