This article contains spoilers for "Doctor Who" season 2, episode 7, "The Wish World."
Early in "The Wish World," we see the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Mel Bush (Bonnie Langford) look up in awe, and the camera reveals that their quiet residential London street is surrounded by gigantic skeletal beasts and a bone fortress that reaches toward the clouds. This strange fever dream soon turns out to be precisely that -- a wish dreamed up by the chillingly monstrous podcaster Conrad Clark (Jonah Hauer-King) and brought into existence by the infant God of Wishes, Desidirium. Somehow, though, even the combination of a particularly dangerous member of the Pantheon of Discord and the devious villain from "Lucky Day" isn't enough for the show's antagonist game. On the contrary, both are simply following the larger plan of the bi-generated Time Lady Rani (Archie Panjabi) and her other self, Mrs. Flood (Anita Dobson). They, in turn,...

David Tennant played the Doctor from 2005 to 2010 and he was easily one of the most popular Doctors in Doctor Who history. He was the lead of hit episodes such as Midnightand his acting was considered top-notch.
He was replaced by Matt Smith in 2010, but even then he was never far from the show, appearing with Smith and John Hurt in the 2012 50th anniversary special The Day of the Doctor. Even as new Doctors took over and regenerated in turn, Tennant continued to be wildly popular, and many fans wished the show could find a way to bring him back.
And they got their wish. After Jodie Whittaker's run as the first female Doctor, she regenerated into Tennant in her final episode. He was no longer the Tenth Doctor... he was now the Fourteenth. And furthermore, showrunner Russell T. Davies had hit on a way to keep him around in case he was ever needed.

One of the great things about a time travel show is that Doctor Who can jump around in time and space. “Lucky Day” does this better than most, allowing multiple companions and versions of the Doctor to appear throughout the episode. While Ncuti Gatwa does not get the spotlight this time out, Millie Gibson returns to give an excellent performance as Ruby Sunday. More time with Ruby is great news, and “Lucky Day” continues to touch on themes of hatred and disinformation from the first few episodes.

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has confirmed there are "conversations" under way about who will replace him on the show. Davies originally revived Doctor Who in 2005 and returned in 2023 for its 60th anniversary.
Davies previously confirmed that Disney's deal with the BBC was to co-produce three 60th anniversary specials and two full seasons with Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor, but that agreement will soon be coming to an end with the premiere of season 2 in April. There is no telling yet whether or not Disney will sign on to fund more episodes, or whether the BBC will have to look for new partners.

While there are plenty of memorable Doctor Who episodes, there are also several underrated stories that simply aren’t as appreciated as they should be. Doctor Who season 15 has now added an Emmy winner to face off against Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor. Gatwa's era of the long-running BBC sci-fi series kicked off with 2023's seasonal special "The Church on Ruby Road," where he first joined forces with Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday. The Doctor and Ruby's adventures took them to deep-space warzones, alternate timelines, the Beatlemania of the 1960s, and Regency-era England before life would lead to them parting ways with one another after an emotional Doctor Who season 14 finale.
While season 15 wrapped filming in May, Deadline has reported that The Good Wife star Archie Panjabi will appear in the series when it returns to Disney Plus and BBC One in 2025. It is unknown who Panjabi will play and how many episodes she will appear since the BBC keeps details under tight wraps. However, it is confirmed the role is a villainous character.

Doctor Who season 14 revamped 1980s companion Mel, addressing her lack of depth and outdated character traits. Mel's reappearance in season 14 showcased her intelligence, courage, and growth, making her a stronger character. The 2005 continuation of Doctor Who corrected past mistakes, transforming Mel from a stereotypical screaming and scared female companion to a fully developed character.
Doctor Who season 14 rehabilitated a 1980s companion who was not well-received when she first appeared. The classic era of Doctor Who had several companions that audiences didn't warm to, especially during its final decade. Most companions during the show's first 50 years were female, and some did little more than scream and act scared, though the series improved its depiction of women by the end of its original run. By then, audiences expected every companion to be three-dimensional and didn't want to put up with those who didn't want to try to help themselves get out of trouble.

In the series 14 finale, Mel is psychically targeted by Sutekh while she’s aboard the Remembered Tardis. Sutekh whispers inside Mel’s head and boasts of being able to find the living through “time and space and family”. Watching the episode with Langford and producer Vicki Delow, that last word prompted showrunner Russell T Davies to say: “What’s that family line, then, Mel? That’s a big secret.”

*Spoiler Warning — This review contains heavy spoilers for ‘Empire Of Death’*
With its Time Window based twists, mystery box openings, and big third act Sutekh reveal, ‘The Legend Of Ruby Sunday’ — despite an exposition-heavy opening — ended with the promise of a barnstorming finale ahead for Russell T. Davies’ first series back at the helm of Doctor Who. And it’s safe to say that it’s a promise well kept by ‘Empire Of Death’. Emotionally charged, narratively knotty, and cleverly self-referential, it’s a whirlwind hour of Who that sees Davies tip his hat to Avengers: Infinity War and The Last Jedi as he brings his own grand tale of heroes and villains to a blockbusting conclusion.
If ‘The Legend Of Ruby Sunday’ was a little slow starting, the same can’t be said of ‘Empire Of Death’. In a blistering opening that picks up right where last week’s episode left off,...

Does it pain you, too?
In “Empire of Death”, just after Melanie Bush is revealed to be Sutekh’s latest victim, the Tardis does something it’s never done before – and according to Russell T Davies speaking on the BBC iPlayer in-episode commentary, something it will never do again.
“Bring me the Time Lord and the Child and their precious secret,” demands Sutekh. In response, a cloaked Harriet Arbinger pulls a lever at the console of the Tardis that’s currently parked in Unit Tower. As a result of her lever-pull, dead-Mel, Ruby and the Doctor are instantly transported across time and London, from the Department of Health in 2046 to Unit HQ in 2024.

Doctor Who signs off until Christmas – and here’s our spoiler-packed review of the series 14 finale, Empire Of Death.
So many spoilers ahead…
Last week’s episode of Doctor Who’s return series, The Legend Of Ruby Sunday, offered the kind of penultimate installment that Russell T Davies always did well in his first run of the show. Notwithstanding the okay-go-through-that-again build up to the Sutekh reveal, it was a large scale blockbuster episode, setting up Empire Of Death. As for finale episodes? They tended to be a bit more mixed, and so it proved did this one.
First, the order of business with Empire Of Death required killing pretty much everyone. Picking up pretty much where we left off last time, the show was in a hurry to defeat the Doctor. Sutekh had been revealed, now let him wreak a lot of damage.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Doctor Who Season 1 finale “Empire of Death.”] Well, the good news is we now know who Ruby’s (Millie Gibson) mother is after the Doctor Who Season 1 finale, “Empire of Death.” The more frustrating than bad news? The mystery of Mrs. Flood (Anita Dobson), Ruby’s neighbor who knows about the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and has spoken directly to the camera more than once now, continues. Sutekh and his followers (Susan Twist‘s Susan Triad and Genesis Lynea’s Harriet Arbinger) bring his “dust of death” to pretty much the entire universe. Yes, Kate (Jemma Redgrave), Rose (Yasmin Finney), Carla (Michelle Greenidge), Cherry (Angelya Wynter), and Mrs. Flood (with her chilling apology to Cherry) are among the dead (for now?). The Doctor and Mel (Bonnie Langford) escape back to Unit and into the Time Window with Ruby. In that Time Window is a Tardis—made of memories, feeding off Ruby...

Companions returning to Doctor Who always bring excitement, like Billie Piper's iconic comeback as Rose Tyler in season 4. Susan Twist's misdirect in season 14 sets up Susan Foreman's potential return, a long overdue event in Doctor Who history. Carole Ann Ford is open to reprising her role as Susan, meaning a possible Time Lord family reunion could happen on screen.

Companions returning to Doctor Who after an absence - no matter how brief - is always an exciting moment. Billie Piper's return as...
