Why Desperate Housewives Killed Mike In Season 8
Image
Here's why Desperate Housewives shockingly killed Mike Delfino (James Denton) in season 8. Susan Meyer's (Teri Hatcher) romance with Mike was a big part of all 8 seasons of Desperate Housewives, and Mike's death is one of the most tragic storylines of all. No main or minor character was safe thanks to the high kill count on Desperate Housewives, but Mike's death was still a devastating moment.

Donny (Sal Landi) shoots and kills Mike in season 8, episode 16, "You Take For Granted." He drives by Mike and Susan's home, screams "Delfino!" and points his gun in his direction. Susan and Mike's neighbor Renee Perry (Vanessa Williams)'s boyfriend Ben Faulkner owes Donny a lot of money, as Donny helped him finance his real estate career, and Donny (Charles Mesure) doesn't accept that Renee attempts to pay the money back. This is one of the saddest deaths on Desperate Housewives as it happens...

January 5th Genre Releases Include Love And Monsters (4K/Blu-ray/DVD), 12 Hour Shift (Blu-ray/DVD), Savage Streets (Blu-ray)
Image
Happy 2021, everyone! It’s been a few weeks, but we’re back with a brand-new edition of our weekly Blu-ray and DVD releases column to kick off this new year. And while we may not have a ton of titles headed home on Tuesday, we do have an excellent bunch of films all the same, including one of my favorite films of 2020, Love and Monsters, which hits various formats this week. Another film from last year that I really enjoyed was Brea Grant’s 12 Hour Shift, which hits both Blu-ray and DVD (and will be available On Demand) tomorrow, and if you have somehow never seen it, I highly recommend picking up the new Blu for Savage Streets, featuring Linda Blair.

Other releases for January 5th include Tintorera… Tiger Shark, From the Depths, Nina of the Woods, and Hacksaw.

12 Hour Shift

It's 1998, and over the course of one...

Another ‘Maniac’ Review
Stars: Elijah Wood, Nora Arnezeder, Liane Balaban, Morganne Slemp, Genevieve Alexandra, America Olivo, Sammi Rotibi, Sal Landi, Dan Hunter, Megan Duffy | Written by Alexander Aja, Gregory Levasseur | Directed by Franck Khalfoun

While aware that there is another Maniac review here on Nerdly, I felt the urge to review it myself after sitting down with the movie for the second time and being filled with the need to unleash words.

The original Maniac hit our screens in 1980 with Joe Spinell sludging up our televisions with his disturbingly dirty portrayal of Frank, the scalp obsessed nut-job with a heart of mould. It was a great horror movie with a fantastic lead performance and top notch gore courtesy of the maestro of visceral explosions, Tom Savini, who also has a small but memorable part in the original film.

Upon hearing the news a couple of years ago that Maniac was going to be...

‘Maniac’ Blu-ray Review
Stars: Elijah Wood, Nora Arnezeder, Liane Balaban, Morganne Slemp, Genevieve Alexandra, America Olivo, Sammi Rotibi, Sal Landi, Dan Hunter, Megan Duffy | Written by Alexander Aja, Gregory Levasseur | Directed by Franck Khalfoun

After helming remakes of The Hills Have Eyes and Piranha, the gang behind the “trapped in a parking lot with a psycho” film P2 reunite for yet another remake of a 70s horror movie, this time the notorious video nasty starring Joe Spinell and directed by William Lustig - Maniac. Only this time it’s Frodo’s turn to go on a homicidal trip!

Yes, everyone’s favourite hobbit Elijah Wood steps into the shoes of Joe Spinell as the deranged Frank, owner of a quasi-abandoned mannequin store and all-round creepy dude who, to the outside world, seems like a typical loner. However Frank has issues, lots of them – migraines, hallucinations, strange Ocd-like compulsions – this is a man who...

Maniac Final Poster
Elijah Wood at an event for Tron - La Révolte (2012)
Armed with a razor-sharp hunting knife, Frank (Elijah Wood) goes on the hunt in Los Angeles for fresh victims in the latest poster for Maniac. Franck Khalfoun (P2, High Tension) directs this intense thriller that follows Frank as he tries to keep his bloodlust under control, when he meets a young art student (Nora Arnezeder) seeking help for her upcoming exhibit. Hopefully, for Frank's sake, he doesn't wander out in public too often clenching a knife and a fistful of human hair, because people tend to notice that type of bad behavior in L.A.

Maniac comes to theaters June 21st, 2013 and stars Elijah Wood, Hank Azaria, Nora Arnezeder, Sal Landi, Délé Ogundiran, Dan Hunter. The film is directed by Franck Khalfoun.

Mad Cowgirl Director Returns With Blue Dream
Director Gregory Hatanaka is, to put it mildly, a madman. His films are wild concoctions of disparate influences jammed together with an urgent energy, the sorts of things that seem steeped more in experimental theater than they do with any sort of mainstream film culture. He first came to attention here thanks to his 2006 effort Mad Cowgirl and he's back now with Blue Dream.James Duval, Dominique Swain, Pollyanna McIntosh, Kayden Kross, Noah Hathaway, Walter Koenig, Sal Landi and Richard Riehle star in the story of a news writer who finds himself caught up in a world of sex, drugs and corporate takeovers as he tries to solve a series of murders. This, of course, only scratches the surface of what Hatanaka is up to....

New Images & Red Band Trailer For Maniac, Starring Elijah Wood And Nora Arnezeder!

Intense Teaser Trailer for Elijah Wood’s Maniac Remake
An incomplete French teaser trailer, unfortunately. But what you do get (around 90 seconds) is pretty intense, it is in English, and more importantly, Elijah Wood is pretty wicked. Maniac (1980)
'Maniac' Gets a Mommy
Maniac (1980)
Friday the 13th hottie America Olivo has been cast to play Frank's mother opposite Elijah Wood in the upcoming remake of Maniac. Alexandre Aja (The Hills Have Eyes) is writing and producing this remake of the 1980 William Lustig trash classic, with Franck Khalfoun (P2) directing. In Maniac, Wood plays a schitzophrenic young man who kills women brutally and randomly as a sort of revenge against an abusive childhood at the hands of his mother. Others in the cast include Sal Landi (Poe, A Crack in the Floor) and Morgane Slemp (Hostel III). News of...

According to the unreliable IMDb, the incredibly sexy America Olivo (Friday the 13th, Bitch Slap) will play the mother of Frank (Elijah Wood) in Franck Khalfoun's now-filming remake of the 1980's classic Maniac. They also report that Morgane Slemp, Sal Landi, Dan Hunter, Freedom, Délé Ogundiran, Steffinnie Phrommany and Joshua De La Garza will also star alongside previously announced Nora Arnezeder and Genevieve Alexandra. Elijah Wood Goes Stab Crazy On Set Of Maniac Remake In These New Stills
Elijah Wood ('Sin City', 'Happy Feet 2') has been snapped on the set of horror remake 'Maniac' being...well a maniac! Wood stars in the Franck Khalfoun ('P2') helmed redo of William Lustig's slasher flick from 1980 and plays antique mannequin salesman and deranged murderer Frank Zito. In the new on-set pics you can see Elijah giving some poor young lady (played by Genevieve Alexandra) a good old fashioned stabbing with his buck knife. Khalfoun has previously stated that the movie would be shot largely from Zito's point of view and of course a horror remake wouldn't be official if it didn't have Alexandre Aja attached. Aja, responsible for helming remakes 'The Hills Have Eyes', 'Mirrors' and 'Piranha 3D', will produce and also co-wrote the new script along with Gregory Levasseur. French actress Nora Arnezeder ('...

Elijah Wood Gets his Women-Murderin’ Ways on in Maniac Reboot Set Images
When hobbits go bad, they look like Elijah Wood murderin’ women in “Maniac”, a redo of the 1890 movie of the same name by William Lustig. Check out some set images from Wood’s latest, which finds the former happy-go-lucky hobbit engaging in some, er, not so happy-go-lucky actions with an unfortunate female victim. “Maniac” finds Wood playing Frank, a serial killer who works at a shop that sells antique mannequins, who gets his jollies off murdering women in an attempt to exact revenge against his mother, who had, not surprisingly, abused the little chap when he was a wee tyke. “Wrong Turn at Tahoe” and “P2′s” Franck Khalfoun directs. Wood stars, with Hank Azaria, Nora Arnezeder, Sal Landi, Délé Ogundiran, and Dan Hunter in the cast. “Maniac” features a screenplay by co-writer Alexandre Aja of “Piranha 3D” fame (though for my money, he’ll always be the guy who...
