"Xena: Warrior Princess" Reboot Planned
Lucy Lawless expressed interest in the idea at Comic Con last week, and today comes word that NBC Universal International is exploring a reboot of beloved action-adventure series "Xena: Warrior Princess" says THR.

Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, who created and served as executive producers on the original show, are reportedly said to be currently searching for a writer for the project which is in extremely early development stages and is being dubbed a "modern reboot".

It's unclear what role original star Lawless would have in the project though its indicated she's being sought for both on and offscreen roles in the new series. The plan is for a "sophisticated and smart superhero for a new generation" and will likely be an ongoing series as opposed to an event series revival (ala "The X-Files," "24") with the first season to premiere next year.

Beginning life as a spin-off to "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys,...

Actors press for more diversity in casting
Actors seldom complain about a lack of diversity in the casting of Australian films and TV programs, according to actress/filmmaker Pearl Tan.

The reason, she says, is that when actors do voice their opinions, they are .vilified. on social media. Tan has joined Equity.s Diversity Committee, which was formed in July and aims to promote and advocate the principles of diverse casting and to foster more opportunities for Equity members from diverse communities.

Reflecting the depth of feeling on the issue, the committee has 32 members including Amanda Bishop, Annette Shun Wah, Bali Padda, Eddie Tang, Jay Laga'aia, Jonathan Chan, Joy Hopwood, Kasia Kaczmarek, Kate Hood, Maria Papas, Ming-Zhu Hii, Robert Jago, Sachin Joab and Serhat Caradee.

The Secret Life of Us and Offspring's producer John Edwards has joined the TV racism debate in Australia. Samoan actor Jay Laga'aia recently claimed that he was axed from Home and Away because of his race, while The Straits' Firass Dirani claimed that most Aussie TV networks do not "create roles for people from a broad range of cultural backgrounds". Although the Seven Network labelled Laga'aia's comments as "offensive" and "insulting", the discussion has gone into overdrive as various other stars have joined the debate. The actor, who is of Samoan descent, filmed his final scenes as Elijah Johnson late last year, and Australian viewers will see the character make his exit in April. His comments came after actor Firass Dirani made a public call for TV producers to start reflecting the "different flavours and different cultures" of Australian society. Theatrical trailer added for 'Legend of The Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole' - Too long.
The theatrical trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures' "Legend of The Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole" has surfaced and, it's just too damned long and not very appealing. Sure, the animation looks wonderful, but it's almost as exciting as Vanguard animation's "Valiant" back in 2005. Considering that owls, although depicated here and there as "wise," are in fact not very intelligent. Still, it's just a movie, and just does not look very engrossing. The cast includes Emily Barclay, Ryan Kwanten, Jay Laga'aia, Miriam Margolyes and Richard Roxburgh as well as Emilie de Ravin, Hugo Weaving, Geoffrey Rush, Helen Mirren, Rachael Taylor, Jim Sturgess, Sam Neill and Abbie Cornish.

'Guardians of Ga'hoole' Gets a Killer Cast
Jim Sturgess, David Wenham, Emily Barclay, and Adrienne DeFaria in Le royaume de Ga'Hoole - La légende des gardiens (2010)
As much as I love a good animated film, sometime I have to sigh and wonder what would be if the same cast was in a live action feature. This is one of those times.

Zack Snyder's Guardians of Ga'hoole has found its official cast, and it's a little different from earlier reports in January. Hugo Weaving and Ryan Kwanten are still in, Hugh Jackman is not, and there are a whole bunch of new folks. The Hollywood Reporter posts that the cast will be headlined by Sam Neill, Geoffrey Rush, David Wenham, and Weaving. (Mucho props to Elisabeth for guessing right on Wenham in April '08!) These guys will be joined by the likes of Aussie folks Emily Barclay, Abbie Cornish, Emilie de Ravin, Jay Laga'aia, and Kwanten. Plus -- three Brit actors with Miriam Margolyes, Helen Mirren, and Jim Sturgess. Unfortunately, there's no cast rundown of who will voice who,...
