‘The Pitt’s Tracy Ifeachor Exiting, Won’t Return For Season 2 Of HBO Max Medical Drama
Image
There will be no Dr. Collins in Season 2 of The Pitt. Tracy Ifeachor, who portrayed Dr. Collins in Season 1, won’t be returning for the second season of the hit HBO Max medical drama, Deadline has confirmed.

Dr. Collins is a fourth-year resident at a teaching hospital in season one and will not be at the shift in season two, we’ve learned. The news was first reported by Deadline’s sister pub TVLine.

The confirmation comes one day after Ifeachor posted a slightly cryptic message on Instagram, saying “what a blessing” it was to be a participant on the first season, calling it an “absolute privilege to play Dr. Heather Collins in such a groundbreaking season and piece.” She made no mention of a second season.

Collins suffered a miscarriage halfway through the first season. It’s implied early on that she and Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch’s (Noah Wyle...

‘The Pitt’: Tracy Ifeachor Not Returning as Heather Collins for Season 2
Image
Tracy Ifeachor, who played Dr. Heather Collins in Season 1 of “The Pitt,” will not return for Season 2.

Sources tell Variety that the decision was made by the show’s creative team; Ifeachor is not leaving “The Pitt” of her own accord.

Dr. Collins is a senior resident at the hospital who has a close but sometimes strained relationship with Dr. Michael Robinavitch aka Robby (series lead Noah Wyle). She begins the season pregnant, trying to start a family through IVF and without a partner. She tries to keep her pregnancy a secret from her colleagues, then miscarries. Afterwards, she discusses it with Robby in a scene that reveals that they used to be a couple, and that she got pregnant and had an abortion during that time.

Along with Ifeachor and Wyle, Season 1 starred Patrick Ball, Katherine Lanasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez and Shawn Hatosy.

‘Hacks’ and ‘The Pitt’ Win Top Honors From LGBTQ Critics at the 2025 Dorian TV Awards
Image
“Hacks” Season 4 won big at the 2025 Dorian TV Awards, the 17th annual awards show from Galeca: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics. Altogether, the Max comedy starring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder won five awards, by far the most of any one series.

Those wins included Best TV Comedy, Best LGBTQ TV Show, Best Written TV Show, Best TV Performance — Comedy and Best Supporting TV Performance — Comedy. Smart and Einbinder took home the last two awards, respectively. This marked the third time Galeca named “Hacks” the Best TV Comedy. Einbinder’s win for Best Supporting TV Performance is the second time the comedian has won the honor. Additionally, Smart was named this year’s Galeca TV Icon, previous recipients of which include Jennifer Coolidge, Christine Baranski and Carol Burnett.

Though “Hacks” won the most awards this year, three shows this year — Max’s “The Pitt,” HBO and Max’s “Pee-wee as Himself...

Julianne Nicholson dances her way to the top of the Comedy Guest Actress Emmy predictions for ‘Hacks’
Image
Looks like Dance Mom will boogie all the way to the Emmy podium.

Julianne Nicholson, who played the joyous (and drug-addicted) character on Hacks Season 4, now leads the Best Comedy Guest Actress race, taking down longtime frontrunner Jamie Lee Curtis for The Bear, who won last year. Nicholson's Dance Mom, aka Mary Alice, was recruited by Paul W. Downs' Jimmy and Megan Stalter's Kayla to appear on Late Night With Deborah Vance as a way for the talk show-within-a-show to gain a younger audience. At first, Jean Smart's Deborah was hesitant to let the untested woman take the stage, until she realized it would annoy Hannah Einbinder's Ava, and then all bets were off.

There's a new Hacks tonight, but I have not yet recovered from Julianne Nicholson dancing to Katy Perry's "Lifetimes" as Dance Mom in last week's episode. pic.twitter.com/SH3OPittFI

The Pitt season 2 casts new series regular as Dr. Robby's fellow attending physician
Image
Noah Wyle’s Dr. Robby will have another attending physician in the ER in The Pitt season 2. The L Word: Generation Q’s Sepideh Moafi has joined the series.

The second season was ordered around a month after The Pitt started on HBO. With the success of the medical drama, it wasn’t that surprising, but it’s always great to hear that we’ll get more to the story. Filming has already started, and it will take place over a holiday weekend: July 4 to be exact.

Who will Sepideh Moafi play in The Pitt season 2?

Very little has been shared about the new role. Variety reports that Moafi will play an attending physician in the ER, but it’s not clear if she will be new to the hospital as a whole or just someone else on shift. After all, with the series only focusing on one 15-hour shift,...

The Pitt Casts Another Series Regular as New Physician in Season 2
Image
The Pitt is gearing up for a second season - and now a new doctor has joined the cast.

Sepideh Moafi, who has appeared in Black Bird and Class of '09, has been cast as a so far unnamed attending physician in Season 2 of the highly acclaimed medical drama. Her character will have her work cut out for her, as The Pitt is not a pleasant place to work. In season one, the hospital received victims of a mass shooting, which proved immensely traumatic for lead character Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle). And that was in addition to the drug overdoses, childbirths, and agonies which the staff dealt with.

Maofi is the fifth person to join the cast of the show recently. Also in the new cast is Charles Baker of Breaking Bad, who will play an unhoused man called Troy. His presence makes Season 2 of the show a Breaking Bad mini-reunion,...

Everything to know about ‘The Pitt’ Season 2
Image
The Pitt clocked out of its first shift season on Thursday, April 10 after one of the most punishing days ever at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. There were rats, assaults, a heartbreaking honor walk, a stolen ambulance (and hilarious bets on the stolen ambulance), a drug addiction reveal, and a mass casualty incident that led to a breakdown from Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle). And that was the first day for most of his team! Dr. Robby & Co. deserve a much-needed break, but we know you cannot wait for them to clock in for their second shift.

Here's everything we know about The Pitt Season 2.

Yes, Max renewed the medical drama on Feb. 14, a month after its premiere and a month before buzz and the show's fandom grew tenfold.

‘The Pitt’ at the Emmys: The categories the breakout hit could crack
Image
Originally published April 11, 2025 at 9 a.m. Pt; updated June 19 at 7 a.m. Pt

It's no longer a question of "will Emmy voters fall into The Pitt?" but "how hard will Emmy voters fall into The Pitt?" Viewers certainly have fallen hard, turning it into the breakout hit of the year through word-of-mouth that built through the show's weekly release of 15 episodes. The Noah Wyle-led medical drama is now in the top three of Max's most-watched series ever. Season 2 slated to debut in January 2026, but how much Emmy success will the show taste before then?

The Pitt has 36 submissions across 15 categories on the Emmy ballot for Season 1, including 17 performers. Let's break down its Emmy prospects.

Best Drama Series

Commensurate with its increasing buzz, The Pitt surged up the Best Drama Series odds while it was on the air. It was in fourth place at the time of its season finale on April 10 behind Severance,...

How ‘The Pitt’ Editor Helped Create the Series’ Real-Time Tension
Image
Because of the intense nature of a drama series that unfolds over 15 hours in as many episodes, you might assume that Max’s “The Pitt” is made with that same frenetic energy. But editor Mark Strand insisted the team was never beholden to time in the same way Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle), charge nurse Dana (Katherine Lanasa) and the rest of the staff of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center are.

“We paid a lot of attention to the fluidity and continuity of the time space,” Strand said. “But we didn’t pay a lot of attention to the accuracy of how the minutes fall within the hour. So if a character says a time of death is at 11:37 or something like that, I don’t know that it landed at the 37th minute of the hour. When I was cutting the pilot, there was an idea of, ‘How much of...

'The Pitt' Is Officially Back in First-Look at Season 2

It's not often that a medical procedural drama receives high praise in its debut season. The Pitt Season 2 Gets a Major Filming Update Revealed
Image
After an acclaimed first season, new episodes of The Pitt are on the way to Max. Though there will be a bit of a wait for Season 2 to arrive, the latest update is encouraging.

Per Variety, Season 2 of The Pitt has officially started production. Filming on the series takes place primarily on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, California, with exteriors shot in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Season 2's filming begins about four months after The Pitt was officially renewed, following very high acclaim and streaming viewership for the show after its launch in January.

One reason why The Pitt found so much success was the unique format it brought to the world of modern medical dramas. Season 1 consisted of 15 episodes, and the story was told in real time, with each episode taking place over the course of one hour. It follows the staff working a 15-hour shift at the Pittsburgh Trauma...

The Pitt Episode That Changes The Entire Series, According To Noah Wyle
Image
This article contains a discussion of mass violence.

When "The Pitt" premiered on the newly rechristened streamer HBO Max in January 2025, it slowly built up its audience thanks to positive buzz and word of mouth — so by its 12th episode, it had plenty of fans on board. Throughout the 15-episode debut season — each hour of which is meant to represent 60 minutes of a busy, chaotic, and ultimately devastating shift in an overrun Pittsburgh emergency department — we watch as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch saves and loses patients in basically equal measure. The real gut punch, though, comes in that 12th episode, "6:00 P.M."

During that episode, Robby and his colleagues receive a barrage of victims due to a mass shooting at PittFest, a large local gathering. Frantically, Robby and his closest friend at work, charge nurse Dana Evans (Katherine Lanasa), try to call Robby's surrogate son Jake (Taj Speights), who...

Katherine Lanasa can't reveal if she's in The Pitt season 2 (but we hope she is)
Image
We knew that Noah Wylie was going to lead The Pitt extremely well, and that we’d believe him as a skilled doctor. This wasn’t his first rodeo in this type of series. What we didn’t quite expect was how the supporting characters would take over our hearts. Katherine Lanasa plays Charge Nurse Dana Evans, and she quickly made it clear that she was there to take control and keep everything running smoothly.

The Pitt captured the hustle of a real Ed. And through all of that, the personalities of the people working there shone through. It also brought some of the horrors that nurses have to face in real life, including angry patients who get violent.

'How Can She Go Back?': The Pitt Star Addresses if Dana Will Return in Season 2
Image
Katherine Lanasa's career went to new heights thanks to The Pitt, where she plays charge nurse Dana Evans. But is she returning for Season 2 of the show? She's coy about it.

The Pitt season 1 certainly set up Dana leaving the show. During the course of one tremendously difficult shift, which took in multiple deaths, Dana is punched in the face by an angry patient - an echo of the violence real-life nurses face. She's injured, and she's also sad. She indicates she's done with the job, but is she? Lanasa spilled all to Variety.

“I don’t think Dana really wants to leave,” she said. “The guy hitting her out of anger really put her between a rock and a hard place… It created this moral dilemma inside the character. How do you tell your daughters and your granddaughters, ‘I’m going back to a place where I get hit?...

Clancy Brown, Joel McHale, and more actors who self-submitted at this year’s Emmys
Image
Networks and studios submit hundreds of actors for Emmy consideration each year, but those not officially entered can still self-submit for a chance at receiving a nomination. This year, that happened in droves.

Recognizable names like Clancy Brown (supporting actor for The Penguin) and Joel McHale (guest star on The Bear) were not on the studios' lists that were made public prior to the ballots being released on June 12. It's possible they were added later by the networks, or that the performers self-submitted. Note that Television Academy members get one free submission each year; otherwise, entry fees are based on several factors. Here is the fine print from the Emmys rulebook:

Individual achievement entries have a processing charge of $125 per submission. In addition to the $125 processing charge, each entrant is charged a $100 entry fee per individual listed on the entry, e.g., for an individual achievement entry with two entrants,...

‘The Pitt’s Noah Wyle & John Wells On How They Jump-Started A Medical Drama Renaissance
Image
This was clearly not the reaction that Noah Wyle was expecting from his starring role on The Pitt. While appearing on a recent installment of The Jennifer Hudson Show, the eponymous host caught the actor off guard by blurting out, “I don’t want to get you blushing again, but the internet be crushing on you.” As Wyle’s face turned cherry red, Hudson began reading off social media comments like “thank you for setting unrealistic expectations about how hot my male doctors would be in my life” and “you got no business being that sexy.”

“Do you ever get used to that kind of attention?” asked Hudson.

While attempting to mask his rouged mug, Wyle could only laugh and shake his head.

Ever since Max began streaming the drama about life in a fictitious Pittsburgh emergency room, it’s been one pinch-me moment after another for Wyle and his...

‘The Pitt’s’ Medical Consultant on Coaching Actors Through Jargon and What Medical Emergencies the Show Gets Right
Image
Max’s “The Pitt” is considered to be medically accurate, and that’s thanks to the creative team.

Dr. Lizzie Ferreira is a real-life emergency medicine physician and is one of the medical consultants on the show. “It starts with John Wells, Noah Wyle, Scott Gemmill. They created and cultivated a culture where it was absolutely imperative to get it right and to show it as accurate and as authentic and as messy as possible,” she says.

Speaking with Variety‘s Artisans, presented by HBO, Ferreira explained that while the scenes begin in the writers’ room, those eventually trickle down to the medical consultants whose job it is to bring that authenticity. “When we were working through a scene with both the director and the cinematographer verbalizing what we’re anticipating the actresses or actors to do in that moment on what cued line, allows the Dp to plan her...

The State of the Race

This year, the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series race is the most brutal acting category. “The White Lotus” Season 3 alone could fill all eight nomination slots, and there is an argument to be made that it’s deserved. "That's the Whole Idea": ‘The Pitt’ Producer Reveals If the Show Will Leave the Hospital in Season 2
Image
The first season of Max's first original medical drama, The Pitt, turned out to be an incredibly successful one, and it's fair to say that audiences can't wait to return to the ER for yet another season. Max will deliver on a second season early next year and the staff of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center will return with ER veteran Noah Wyle at the helm as Dr. Robby. Much of the medical drama's first season saw the action play out within the confines of the hospital as the show takes place in real time. Each episode covers an hour of the one shift shown across the season with very few sightings of the hospital staff outside the hospital. So, will that change in Season 2? Will audiences get to follow staff home in the sophomore season?

Some members of staff had to depart the hospital at various points during the first season.

As Nomination Voting Nears, Are Emmy FYC Campaigns Outspending Oscars? – Notes On The Season
Image
A column chronicling conversations and events on the awards circuit.

Emmy nomination-round voting gets going next Thursday, with ballots due to be completed by the June 23 deadline. Maybe that is why the 20,000-ish members of the Television Academy are seeing a flurry of emails, invites, FYC events, notifications and last-minute campaigning at a pace I can’t quite recall in all my years covering these awards and as a longtime member and former Writers Governor of the TV Academy itself.

The cutoff date for eligibility for this year’s Emmy contest was May 31, and in May alone I counted 148 direct emails from the Television Academy with FYC invites, screening reminders and lineups from all the networks, streamers and studios touting their wares. Every one of these is paid for, so the Academy is raking in a lot of cash off campaigning, all the while reminding members they have nothing to...

‘Hacks’ Takes on ‘The Pitt’ in Max’s Celebrity Pickleball Paddle Royale for Roland-Garros
Image
In honor of Roland-Garros 2025, Max hosted a pickleball Paddle Royale at Venice Beach on Wednesday between two of its biggest shows of the season.

“Hacks” stars Paul W. Downs and Robby Hoffman faced off against Katherine Lanasa and Shawn Hatosy from “The Pitt” — and while Team Hacks may have technically won in the end, it would be a safe bet to put your money on Team Pitt for any future rematches.

That’s because Hatosy and Lanasa’s early lead was stifled once tennis great Andy Roddick decided to step in for first-time pickleballer Hoffman. Of course, fellow pro athlete Terrell Owens eventually took the red clay court to make it three-on-three, but by that point, the damage was done.

The Parisian-inspired event also featured noteworthy mocktails, branded paddles, headwear, passed apps, a sweet and savory crêpe station and crudités from Schaffer.

‘The Pitt’ Producer Says Langdon’s First Shift Back in Season 2 Is “No Joke”
Image
The 2024-2025 TV season has ended and, for everyone who kept pace, it was an enthralling one, with networks dishing out new seasons of our favorite shows. Some new shows were introduced and made quite a splash in the pool. Max's first original medical drama, The Pitt, enjoyed a successful first season. The series' lead role of Dr. Robby was ER veteran Noah Wyle, who is supported by an ensemble of stars who perfectly fill out the staff of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center while curating memorable moments onscreen. One of those is Dr. Frank Langdon (Patrick Ball).

By the time the season finale of The Pitt had aired, there were several questions up in the air, including whether certain characters would be returning for a second season. Ball's Langdon is one of those with an uncertain future with his troubles with addiction presenting a challenge. Despite Langdon rejecting Robby's five-year program for rehabilitation,...

Image
Hollywood icon and original ER star George Clooney praises Noah Wyle and The Pitt.

Per TV Insider, Clooney discussed The Pitt and the show's star's success with the series during an appearance on Late Nite with Seth Meyers. "It's so good," Clooney said. "I have to say, we've been really dear friends since, you know, since the show, since we did the pilot of the show. [Noah] is just the most honorable, talented young man, I get to say because I'm an old man, and I cannot be happier for his success on the show."

"The show is just a beautiful show and he does a great job with it," Clooney added. Clooney, who serves as executive producer and stars as Doctor Michael "Robby" Robinavitch on the hit series, previously worked with Wyle on ER. This marks the second year in which the Gotham Awards have broken out TV honors with a separate ceremony during Emmys season.

Netflix’s Adolescence leads this year’s nominees with four nods.

The four-episode series about a teenage boy accused of murder, which became a much-talked-about phenomenon shortly after its streaming debut last month, landed nods for breakthrough limited series, lead performance in a limited series (Stephen Graham) and two nods for supporting performance in a limited series (Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty).

Meanwhile, Max’s The Pitt, FX’s Dying for Sex and CBS’ Matlock each landed three nods, with a number of projects scoring two nods apiece.

Noah Wyle & 'The Pitt' Co-Stars Step Out for FYC Event!
Image
The stars of The Pitt are together again!

Noah Wyle joined co-stars Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez, Tracy Ifeachor, Katherine Lanasa, Isa Briones, and Fiona Dourif at the For Your Consideration Event for their hit HBO Max series on Wednesday (May 29) held at the Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, Calif.

The Pitt follows emergency room doctors over the course of one shift, has a different approach. Because each hour of the shift is one episode of the season, we don’t get to see characters develop relationships over time. Instead, they have pre-established relationships within that 15 hour shift that play out for the viewer.

Season 2 will follow this same format – with each episode being one hour of that ER shift. The second season will take place over July 4 weekend with a confirmed 15 episode count.

Find out which actor won’t be back for season 2.

Noah Wyle teases ‘The Pitt’ Season 2 in these 12 words
Image
The Pitt gave a shot of adrenaline to FYC season on Wednesday with a special set visit for Emmy voters, followed by a screening of the Season 1 finale and a panel with Noah Wyle (Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch and an executive producer), Shabana Azeez (Victoria Javadi), Fiona Dourif (Dr. Cassie McKay), Katherine Lanasa (Nurse Dana Evans), Tracy Ifeachor (Dr. Heather Collins), Isa Briones (Dr. Trinity Santos), Gerran Howell (Dennis Whitaker), R. Scott Gemmill, and John Wells (executive producer).

During the group Q&a, it was confirmed that Season 2 begins filming "next month" on the Warner Bros. lot. While the cast and producers couldn't speak much about the new episodes, Wyle did tease the plot with 12 words: "Fourth of July. 250th anniversary of America. Big holiday weekend. Busy shift." Hmm, let the fan theories commence!

Gemmill joked that, for Season 2, he pitched an "evil twin" reveal at a "furry convention" in Pittsburgh during Independence Day.

“Probably Needs Some Therapy”: ‘The Pitt’ Star Addresses Their Uncertain Status in Season 2
Image
HBO has always been famous for its prestige TV shows like Succession, The White Lotus, and Sopranos, but this year the studio took one of its biggest swings that paid off. Max kicked off the year with The Pitt, the platform’s first original medical drama, and recruited to play the lead role of Dr. Robby was ER veteran Noah Wyle. However, starring alongside Wyle is a loaded ensemble of stars who perfectly fill out the staff of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. One of those stars is Katherine Lanasa, who plays the fearless Dana.

Dana may not be a doctor, but the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center ER would not be the same without her. However, after suffering a brutal punch to the face near the end of Season 1, Dana claims that she might be ready to hang up the scrubs. The show leaves this a bit open-ended, as it doesn...

"There’s Going To Be Lots of Surprises to Come": 'The Pitt' Star Teases Season 2
Image
Season 2 of Max's hit medical dramaThe Pitt will be with us in 2026. The sophomore season is gearing up for production and will bring back a face that viewers missed in the later episodes of Season 1. Tracy Ifeachor played Dr. Heather Collins in the 15-episode season, but as something unfortunate unfolded in her life, Dr. Collins had to leave before the shift ended. However, the show established in the eleven episodes she was present that she and Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) had a romantic past and might still be attracted to each other. Ifeachor talked to Us Weekly about the much-anticipated season, saying that "there is going to be an amazing cast in Season 2 – just as there was in Season 1." The actress teased "lots of surprises to come," especially regarding Robby and Collins' relationship.

“I’m not a [plot] ruiner," Ifeachor said when egged on for more information. "I’m not even...

‘The Pitt’ star Tracy Ifeachor thinks about Collins and Robby’s backstory ‘all the time’: ‘It just didn’t work out because it’s not the right time’
Image
Tracy Ifeachor remembers the moment she knew The Pitt would be a hit — and it's not tied to any one episode or fan reaction.

"I want to say something really profound here, but instead I'll say I remember coming in one day and saying to Noah [Wyle], 'Now I know this show is going to be an absolute smash hit because I got my identity stolen three times in the course of a week and all these different things happened,'" Ifeachor tells Gold Derby. "Got stuck in customs. I went, 'There's a lot opposing me when that happened.' I was like, 'Yeah, yeah, this is going to be something.' ... So when, like, 50 bad things happen on a single day, you've got to know that something great is coming around the corner."

In all seriousness, Ifeachor knew the medical drama was a special project from the start between the...

Emmy odds check-up: ‘The Pitt’ prognosis is positive as it creeps up on ‘Severance’
Image
Exactly three months ago, The Pitt was in 10th place for Best Drama Series; its vital signs have been steadily improving ever since.

By March, the Max medical procedural had jumped up to sixth place in Gold Derby's odds, and by April it was in the top four. Now, as word of mouth continues to grow, The Pitt has achieved its highest placement yet at No. 2, behind only the long-standing predictions leader, Severance.

The Pitt stars Emmy frontrunner Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, a senior attending physician who works a 15-hour shift at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. Each episode unfolds hourly in real time. Robby's fellow staff members include Taylor Dearden's Melissa "Mel" King, Katherine Lanasa's Dana Evans, Patrick Ball's Frank Langdon, and Shawn Hatosy's Dr. Jack Abbott.

While The Pitt gives viewers a nostalgic throwback feel to traditional broadcast dramas, Severance is celebrated...

‘The Pitt’s Tracy Ifeachor On Season 2 & Her Character’s Romantic Potential With Noah Wyle’s Dr. Robby: “Lots Of Surprises To Come”
Image
While HBO Max’s The Pitt readies itself for filming on Season 2, star Tracy Ifeachor teased what might be coming through the doors of the emergency department next, including what the breakout drama has in store for her character Dr. Collins, both romantically and professionally speaking.

“Listen, there is going to be an amazing cast in Season 2 — just as there was in Season 1. I’m just going to leave it there,” she told Us Weekly in a new interview. “I’m not a [plot] ruiner. I’m not even going to tell you who is or is not going to come back. I’m just going to say I want you to watch Season 2 and just enjoy it as much as you’ve watched Season 1. Hopefully there’ll be Seasons 3 and 4 and 7.”

As creator and executive producer R. Scott Gemmill teased previously, there will be some changes heading into the sophomore installment,...
