Charlize Theron’s 2005 Sci-Fi Film That Almost Left Her Paralyzed Finds a New Streaming Home
Image
Charlize Theron has starred in her fair share of action films, which, according to her, don’t cause her as many injuries on set as opposed to the non-action ones. However, while filming this 2005 action sci-fi that performed poorly both critically and commercially, the actress was almost paralyzed when a stunt went wrong. The film in question is Aeon Flux – loosely based on the adult animated avant-garde MTV series– and it has found a new streaming home for summer and ahead of its 20th anniversary.

Aeon Flux was released on December 2, 2005, by Paramount Pictures in the U.S., where it made less than $26,000,000. Two decades later, the live-action pic has landed on Paramount+, having arrived on Friday, August 1. Directed by Karyn Kusama, Aeon Flux was created with a production budget of $55-62 million, but it failed to deliver at the box office, grossing only $52 million worldwide. On top of that,...

Charlize Theron's $62M Sci-Fi Bomb That Quietly Became a Cult Classic Comes to Paramount+
Image
Aeon Flux was overwhelmingly panned by fans and critics when it was released, but the film gained a strong following over the years. It proved Charlize Theron can do action, if anything, even if the role fumbled her up-and-coming career.

2005's Aeon Flux joins Paramount+ on Aug. 1, and that's great news for cult fans of the film. Director Karyn Kusama's sophomore outing was anticipated as an edgy, faithful adaptation of Peter Chung's animated sci-fi series. The live-action version did adopt the original's characters and premise, but Kusama's creative vision was ill-received; Aeon Flux flopped at the box office, earning $52.3 million against its $62 million budget. It also has an overwhelmingly rotten score at Rotten Tomatoes among audiences and critics.

Aeon Flux is set in a far future, centuries after a deadly pathogenic virus wiped out 99% of society. The remaining five million humans have established a thriving city-state. It's a...

Stephen King Thinks This Clint Eastwood Movie Is One Of This Century's Best
Image
The New York Times recently ran a poll asking famous filmmakers, actors, and writers to name the best movies of the century so far. From Pedro Almodóvar to "West Side Story" and "Snow White" star Rachel Zegler, the Times asked dozens upon dozens of famous people about their favorite feature films released since the year 2000 and then compiled their responses into a Top 100 list (ranked by which movies got the most votes). The poll was very similar to the polls that Sight & Sound holds once every decade, only limited to releases from the last 25 years and inviting a different team of filmmakers, writers, and executives to participate. (Sight & Sound also invites critics and essayists.)

As of this writing, one can see many of the Top 10 lists submitted by the participants, and, boy howdy, are some of the choices interesting. Alex Winter, the star of the "Bill & Ted" films and director of "Freaked,...

Range Studios Leaders Build on Movie Momentum After Automatik Acquisition Leads to a Banner 2024
Image
Two years ago this month, while the industry was in the thick of the dual writers and actors strikes, Range Media Partners and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger, principles of the busy production banner Automatik, decided to tie the knot. In 2024, the fledgling film and production division of Range Studios enjoyed a banner year by any measure.

Searchlight Pictures’ “A Complete Unknown” scored at the mainstream box office ($140 million worldwide) and had a strong award season ride capped by eight Oscar nominations.

Meanwhile, Neon’s “Longlegs” proved that there’s still plenty of box office gold to be mined from distinctive indie films. The horror film that finished out with $127 million in worldwide box office ($74 million domestic) also vaulted the director Osgood Perkins to a new level of industry recognition. Having that kind of career-building relationship with filmmakers is important to Kavanaugh-Jones and Berger, regardless of whether the talent is...

Chain Reactions documentary interviews Stephen King, Takashi Miike, & more about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Alexandre O. Philippe
Documentarian Alexandre O. Philippe’s works have covered such subjects as fan disenchantment with George Lucas (The People vs. George Lucas), zombie culture (Doc of the Dead), Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho (78/52), the original Alien (Memory: The Origins of Alien), The Exorcist (Leap of Faith: William Friedkin on the Exorcist), David Lynch’s obsession with The Wizard of Oz (Lynch/Oz), and the life of William Shatner (You Can Call Me Bill), so it makes sense that Philippe was the filmmaker the rights holders behind one of the greatest horror films ever made, the 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (watch it Here) reached out to when they were hoping to celebrate the film’s 50th anniversary with the creation of a special new documentary. New 'Texas Chain Saw Massacre' Documentary Promises a Fresh Take on the Horror Classic
Image
In 1974, director Tobe Hooper unleashed The Texas Chain Saw Massacre onto an unsuspecting public, and it forever changed the horror genre. Blasted by critics at the time for being nothing more than what we now call torture porn, the film has gone on to become a revered classic that was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 2024. Now, a new documentary titled Chain Reactions promises to change the way you watch one of the most infamous horror movies ever made.

Directed by Alexandre O. Philippe, the acclaimed filmmaker behind the likes of 78/52, Memory: The Origins of Alien, and The People vs. George Lucas, Chain Reactions brings together five creatives to offer their perspectives on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and how it impacted their lives. The goal, says Philippe, is to "forever change the way you watch or think about the film." Along for the ride are Stephen King,...

‘Chain Reactions’ – ‘Chain Saw’ Doc Will Change the Way You Watch the Horror Classic [Trailer]
Image
Documentarian Alexandre O. Philippe takes a unique approach with his upcoming documentary Chain Reactions, enlisting five celebrated artists to explore the impact of Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

As Alex Divincenzo explained in a recent festival review, “Each subject is given about 20 minutes to wax poetic about the film. Stephen King candidly discusses the film’s craft, the horror genre, and morality in art. Patton Oswalt discusses the movie and its relation to other works with equal passion and eloquence. Takashi Miike details how a formative viewing of the film impacted his later work. Film critic Alexandra Heller-Nicholas provides an analysis from the perspective of a girl in Australia. Director Karyn Kusama examines the role of beauty in art.”

The goal? In Philippe’s words, to “forever change the way you watch or think about the film.”

Amanda Seyfried Says She'd Do 'Mamma Mia 3' in a "Heartbeat"
Image
Amanda Seyfried recently called out Hollywood's increasing reliance on sequels...even as she admitted her willingness to return for another installment in her most popular franchise. During a conversation with Rachel Brosnahan for Interview Magazine, the two actresses discussed this summer's most anticipated releases, and the conversation ventured into the two speaking of sequels they'd be interested in appearing in. When Brosnahan asked Seyfried, "What's our Barbenheimer between 'Fantastic Four,' 'Jurassic Park,' and 'Superman'?"

Seyfried responded with a few suggestions before reflecting on the "fatigue" currently felt in the industry (and audiences) with constant sequels...before quickly declaring that she would return for a third installment in the Mamma Mia! franchise.

"It's Fantastic Super-park. It's Four Superparks. Four Dinosaurs. Four Super Dinosaurs. I don't know!" She added: "I will say, there's a little bit of fatigue with sequels. I want original content. I think...

Amanda Seyfried Has One Condition For A Jennifer's Body Sequel
Image
Anyone with an iota of sense knows that "Jennifer's Body," the 2009 film written by Diablo Cody and directed by Karyn Kusama which stars Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried, absolutely rules. Even though the movie flopped when it came out for a variety of reasons, it's finally getting the re-evaluation it so richly deserves, and even a potential sequel. During an episode of Variety's Actors on Actors series that pairs up Seyfried and Adam Brody — who played a small yet pivotal role in "Jennifer's Body" — talked about the sequel, at which point Seyfried said she has one huge and very understandable condition for her return.

"This was written out for me to say, I'm going to be honest — but you played a villainous pop star in 'Jennifer's Body,'" Seyfried said at the start of the interview, referencing Brody's role as Nikolai Wolf, the lead singer of the fictional...

Amanda Seyfried Says ‘Jennifer’s Body’ Sequel is Happening But Won’t Make it Without Megan Fox
Image
Jennifer’s Body star Amanda Seyfried recently kept it coy regarding whether the long-awaited sequel was finally happening. Variety’s “Actor on Actor” series brings confirmation from Seyfried that a sequel is in the works, and touches on co-star Megan Fox’s involvement.

Seyfried, who plays protagonist Needy in director Karyn Kusama and writer Diablo Cody’s teen horror movie, sat down with her Jennifer’s Body co-star Adam Brody to chat about their careers and history together. The pair first met on set of the Kusama-directed horror movie.

In Jennifer’s Body, a newly-possessed high school cheerleader turns into a succubus who specializes in killing her male classmates, leaving it up to her best friend to put an end to the horror.

“We’re making another [“Jennifer’s Body”]. Are you going to do it?” Seyfried asks Brody in the exchange.

Brody, who played the villainous singer of the Satanic band Low Shoulder,...

Amanda Seyfried Reveals Plans for ‘Jennifer’s Body 2’ With Resurrected Megan Fox, Pitches Adam Brody to Play the Devil
Image
Is “Jennifer’s Body” ready to come off the ice?

The cult horror film starring Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried and Adam Brody is nearing its 20th anniversary, but sequel talk has moved at a steady clip in the years following its 2009 release. Seyfried and Brody, in contention for Emmy nominations this year, recently reunited for a roving “Actors on Actors” conversation where Variety got important updates on the second film.

“We’re making another one,” Seyfried told Brody definitively during their chat.

“I heard, what can you tell me?” he asked in return.

In the original movie, “Mamma Mia!” star Seyfried played Anita “Needy” Lesnicki, the wallflower best friend of bad girl Fox (the titular Jennifer). Brody played Nikolai, lead singer of the aspiring rock band Low Shoulder. When the girls head to a local dive bar to see them play, Brody’s character reveals bigger plans for his groupie...

Amanda Seyfried and Adam Brody on Making ‘Jennifer’s Body,’ Surviving ‘O.C.’ Fame and ‘Mean Girls’: ‘Paramount Still Owes Me Money for the Likeness’
Image
It’s funny how the memory of a demonic teenage girl who feasts on human flesh can spark nostalgia. But that’s how it works with Amanda Seyfried and Adam Brody.

The stars of two of this season’s buzziest shows — the harrowing cop drama “Long Bright River” for Seyfried and the hit romantic comedy “Nobody Wants This” for Brody — met almost 20 years ago on the set of Karyn Kusama’s cult horror classic “Jennifer’s Body.” Seyfried played the nerdy and devout best friend of Jennifer, the aforementioned demon, played by Megan Fox, while Brody was cast as a douchey aspiring rock star who performs a satanic ritual meant to bring fame, and winds up creating a monster.

Considered a flop at the time, the film found new life and cross-generational fans in subsequent years. It also provided the perfect occasion for a reunion for the actors, who have even...

Nicole Kidman has touched down at the Cannes Film Festival, where she is set to receive the Woman in Motion Award from Kering chairman and CEO François-Henri Pinault, Cannes president Iris Knobloch and festival director Thierry Fremaux. Ahead of the awards dinner, Kidman joined Variety’s Angelique Jackson for a Kering Woman in Motion talk in which the Oscar winner spoke passionately about her commitment to uplifting female directors.

It was in 2017 when Kidman made a public vow to work with a woman director every 18 months. She had no idea if that would even be possible, but she was determined to see it through. And see it through she has. Nicole Kidman Talks Viral ‘Babygirl’ TikToks & Gives Mascha Schilinski’s ‘Sound Of Falling’ A Shoutout During Cannes Talk

“With the film Babygirl, it reached its audience, strangely enough, through TikTok,” Nicole Kidman said this afternoon during one of Kering’s Women In Motion talks at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

“It’s extraordinary to have that avenue for that film to be discovered,” Kidman continued, telling the audience that social media now provides filmmakers with new and exciting ways to disseminate their work.

“There are so many different ways now to reach people,” Kidman added. “ We launched at the Venice Film Festival, and they gave us extraordinary support. But we still had five months before launching in America, and it got this groundswell of support on social and TikTok and that literally made people go see the film. So you just never know how things are going to be discovered now.”

Al Pacino and Dan Stevens Are Priests in Exorcism True Story for ‘The Ritual’ Trailer
Image
Dan Stevens, who has become synonymous with indie horror, is paired with icon Al Pacino for the ultimate exorcism film, “The Ritual.” The duo star as two priests who “face the ultimate test of faith,” as the logline teases. The film is based on the true story that was captured in 1935 book “Begone Satan!” about a Church-sanctioned exorcism. The original account of the events went on to inspire “The Exorcist” book and William Friedkin’s famed 1973 film that later spurred a franchise.

The official synopsis for “The Ritual” reads: “When the Church sanctions the exorcism of Emma Schmidt (Abigail Cowan), two priests — divided by doubt — must confront a force beyond comprehension… and their own faith.” Ashley Greene and Patricia Heaton co-star.

Pacino recently told Entertainment Weekly that after starring in “The Ritual,” he can finally watch Friedkin’s “The Exorcist.” Pacino worked with the late auteur on “Cruising,” which was...

When Actors Direct: What TV Can Teach You About Career Evolution
Image
An actor who decides to direct may inspire an eyeroll: Well, of course they can. After leading a hit show, what producer will say no?

A powerful actor who wants to direct has an advantage others won’t. At the same time, to become directors Tyler James Williams, Ayo Edebiri, Jason Bateman, and Rhea Seehorn had to be willing to step away from the comfort zone of their expertise and see themselves as beginners.

They also took advantage of a Hollywood truism: People work with people they know, and the only way to make yourself known is to be excellent around the people who can hire you to do the work. It’s the same logic that creates a script supervisor-director (Karyn Kusama), a Pa-producer (Kevin Feige), or an art coordinator-Oscar-winning production designer (Hannah Beachler).

Here’s what these actors say they learned while making the transition.

Tyler James Williams...

A Beloved Animated MTV Sci-Fi Series Led To A Live-Action Flop Starring Charlize Theron
Image
Once upon a time, MTV stood for Music Television and played nothing but music videos around the clock. At a time when 24-hour programming in any form was still novel, there was something comforting about being able to switch on the tube at 3am and watch a Split Enz video. MTV was the only channel within the rapidly expanding cable expanse offering this then-novel service, so no one was clamoring for it to air, say, reruns of "The Monkees."

When MTV became a pop cultural phenomenon, the company got ambitious and began trying out non-music-video programming. In 1985, they really did begin airing reruns of "The Monkees," but that same year they also brought the brilliant BBC punk-rock sitcom "The Young Ones" to American viewers. They eventually got into original programming in 1987 with the game show "Remote Control," which introduced Gen X-ers to comedic talents like Ken Ober, Colin Quinn, and...

Image
Spoiler Alert: This post contains details about the Yellowjackets, Season 3 finale episode “Full Circle“

After an eventful Season 3 finale, Yellowjackets fans no doubt have plenty of questions. Did Natalie reach help? Where did Jeff and Callie go? Does Shauna have a soul?

Leading up to this week’s episode “Full Circle,” co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson spoke with Deadline about the “spiritual symmetry” of the finale, which reveals the identities of “Pit Girl” and “Antler Queen” after they were teased in the 2021 Karyn Kusama-helmed pilot.

“In terms of bringing it full circle, there is always something exciting and maybe sort of daunting, because the entirety of — a large portion at least, in terms of narrative weight of the finale, is sort of starting where we began,” said Nickerson, who directed the episode. “The show’s obviously not over, but to sort of like land back at the beginning...

Nicole Kidman at an event for Paperboy (2012)
The 10 Best Nicole Kidman Movie Performances
Nicole Kidman at an event for Paperboy (2012)
Nicole Kidman came to our attention in the 1990s, first in supporting roles with her then-husband Tom Cruise and then as a striking, distinctive leading lady in some of the era’s most enduring cult classics. In the new millennium, the Academy Awards came calling to give some long-overdue recognition to her skillset (she won for “The Hours” in 2002). Anyone would forgive her for resting on her laurels thereafter as she approached middle age, but not Nicole.

A year later, she appeared in Lars von Trier’s avant-garde drama “Dogville,” and from there, has continued to make it a mission statement to work with some of the most fascinating filmmakers in the world – Jonathan Glazer, Park Chan-wook, Yorgos Lanthimos; at the height of her fame, she took a year out to work with Stanley Kubrick. That’s before we even mention her fruitful and admirably frequent collaborations with female directors,...

‘Yellowjackets’ Bosses on Crowning [Spoiler] the Antler Queen and Ideas for a Possible Season 4
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the Season 3 finale of “Yellowjackets,” titled “Full Circle,” streaming now on Paramount+ with Showtime.

It’s Mari!

The identity of Pit Girl was finally revealed in the Season 3 finale of “Yellowjackets,” when Mari (Alexa Barajas) accidentally plunged to her death into the stake-filled pit while being hunted by her soccer teammates. The episode also confirmed the true identity of the pilot episode’s Antler Queen: Turns out it was Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) all along.

In the 1990s timeline, the teen plane-crash survivors must endure another harsh winter in the Canadian wilderness, and after their primary source of meat — the farm animals — all die, the group again participates in a sacrificial ritual to survive.

Van (Liv Hewson) and Taissa (Jasmin Savoy Brown) can’t bear to lose another friend, so they rig the deck of cards to ensure that outsider Hannah (Ashley Sutton) will draw the Queen of Hearts.

Hayley Williams has unearthed a true deep cut from her catalog, sharing a super rare performance of “Teenagers” — a song she wrote for the Jennifer’s Body soundtrack — on Instagram.

‘Yellowjackets’ Pit Girl Actress Talks Filming “Full Circle Moment” From Pilot & When She Knew It Was Her: “I Did Have A Hunch”
Image
Spoilers: This post contains details about the Yellowjackets, Season 3 finale episode ‘Full Circle’

Nearly six years in the making, one of Yellowjackets‘ most anticipated scenes finally came to fruition on this week’s Season 3 finale episode.

After a faceless brunette was teased as a victim of the cannibalistic soccer team’s “hunt” in the beginning of the 2021 Karyn Kusama-directed pilot episode, Mari actress Alexa Barajas told Deadline she’s long “had a feeling” her character would be revealed as the infamous ‘Pit Girl’.

“I didn’t always know, but I did have a hunch,” said Barajas. “I think after watching the pilot, I saw this girl running in the woods, and I said, ‘I think I look a whole lot like her.’ So, I had a feeling that that this was where it was gonna all end up, and I am so excited that we finally got to do it.

Wrap Your Head Around This: Sony Bravia Theatre U Review
Image
For those wondering about the appeal of a device like the Sony Bravia Theatre U, we had the same question at first. A home cinema speaker around your neck rather than a pair of surround sound headphones – why? But after a few weeks with this interesting piece of audio tech, we were hooked.

If you want to step up your sound this is a fantastic, accessible way to get Dolby Atmos-level audio. Full-sized soundbars and subwoofers can be pricey and take up space (the Bravia Theatre 8 is huge), but this offers a portable, affordable option without compromising on quality.

Connect it to your TV, binge your favourite shows, dive into a quick gaming session, or boost your smartphone audio – all without worrying about disturbing others. It's not completely silent to those asleep or in adjacent rooms, but it leaks far less sound than its TV speaker alternatives. Perfect when the...

Boston Underground Film Festival 2025 – 7 Movies We Watched, from ‘The Surfer’ to ‘Fucktoys’
Image
The 25th annual Boston Underground Film Festival took place at The Brattle Theatre in Cambridge, Ma from March 19-23 with a genre-blending lineup that included premieres, festival favorites, anticipated titles, short film blocks, special guests, after parties, and more.

Here’s what I saw at this year’s event…

The Surfer

Like a wave, there’s no stopping the pure energy of Nicolas Cage. The Academy Award winner never phones in a performance, regardless of budget or subject matter, but not every filmmaker can harness his signature eccentricities. Lorcan Finnegan (Vivarium) joins the ranks of those who possess such an abiloity, delivering a sun-baked descent into delirium with The Surfer.

Cage stars as The Surfer, a white collar man who wants to ride the waves with his son on the Australian coast where he grew up. But his paradise is lost thanks to a cult-like gang of local surfers, led by the enigmatic Scally,...

“I Can’t Critique This Movie, To Me It’s Perfect”: 16 Years Later, Amanda Seyfried Says “The Marketing” Was to Blame for the Poor Reception of ‘Jennifer’s Body’
Image
Amanda Seyfried has strong feelings about her 2009 horror-comedy film “Jennifer’s Body.” She played Needy Lesnicki, a shy high school girl whose best friend Jennifer, acted by Megan Fox, gets possessed by a demon and starts killing boys.

The movie, directed by Karyn Kusama and written by Diablo Cody, didn’t do well when it came out. Seyfried blames the failure on bad marketing.

In a recent chat with GQ, Seyfried praised the film. “I can’t critique this movie. To me, it’s perfect,” she said. “It’s got balls. Diablo Cody was outspoken and beautiful and smart and funny. We were expressing a certain angst in a very specific, comedic way in a very specific genre. The special effects were so incredible, there were stunts, there was everything you could want.” She believes it had a unique mix of humor, horror, and stunts that made it special.

The marketing,...

Amanda Seyfried Says ‘Jennifer’s Body’ Is “Perfect” But Marketing Team “Cheapened It”
Image
As Jennifer’s Body plots a resurrection, Amanda Seyfried still has nothing but praise for the original.

With the growing possibility of a sequel to the 2009 film, the Oscar nominee slammed the marketing team after they “cheapened” and “ruined” the Diablo Cody-written, Karyn Kusama-directed comedy horror that co-starred Megan Fox.

“I can’t critique this movie. To me, it’s perfect,” she told GQ. “It’s got balls. Diablo Cody was outspoken and beautiful and smart and funny. We were expressing a certain angst in a very specific, comedic way in a very specific genre. The special effects were so incredible, there were stunts, there was everything you could want.”

Seyfried added, “If the critics criticize anything, it would be the marketing. The marketing sucked, it just did. And we all agree.”

Although the marketing team largely capitalized on Fox’s sex appeal in attempt to target a younger male demographic,...

Amanda Seyfried Says ‘Jennifer’s Body’ Was a ‘Perfect Movie’ Ruined by Marketing that ‘Sucked’: ‘The Marketing Team Cheapened It’
Image
Even Amanda Seyfried agrees “Jennifer’s Body” deserved better marketing. Seyfried, who starred as Needy Lesnicki in Karyn Kusama’s 2009 cult horror film opposite Megan Fox, looked back on the role in a recent interview with GQ.

“I can’t critique this movie, to me it’s perfect. It’s got balls. [Screenwriter] Diablo Cody was outspoken and beautiful and smart and funny,” she said. “We were expressing a certain angst in a very specific, comedic way in a very specific genre. The special effects were so incredible, there were stunts, there was everything you could want.”

Though “Jennifer’s Body” has since found an audience as a subversive feminist cult classic, the film flopped on initial release, which Seyfried chalks up to poor marketing. “If the critics criticize anything, it would be the marketing,” she said. “The marketing sucked, it just did. And we all agree.”

'I Wanna Celebrate It by Doing a Sequel': Amanda Seyfried Praises Jennifer's Body and Notes 'The Marketing Ruined It'
Image
Nowadays, Jennifer's Body is considered a cult classic, a comedy horror that was ahead of its time. The movie came out in 2009 and it didn't have the impact the stars, Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried, as well as the creative team had hoped for, but they have highlighted the movie's impact throughout the years.

Seyfried has often addressed the movie and has always had nothing but good things to say. The same trend continues, as the actress addressed the movie in a new interview with GQ, where she breaks down her most iconic characters. Naturally, she also brought up Jennifer's Body's Needy.

"I can't critique this movie, it's to me a perfect movie. It's got balls. Diablo Cody was outspoken and beautiful and smart and funny," she said about the screenwriter. "We were expressing a certain angst in a very, very specific, comedic way, in a very specific genre."

Amanda Seyfried Is ‘Looking Forward’ to ‘Jennifer’s Body’ Sequel: ‘I’m Ready’

Amanda Seyfried thinks Jennifer’s Body was a “perfect movie” and never got the chance to succeed because of its marketing strategy. In a new interview with GQ, Seyfried said the 2009 film deserved better — and she’s ready to reprise her role to celebrate it.

Amanda Seyfried Says ‘Jennifer’s Body’ Was “Ruined” by the Marketing Team: “It’s to Me a Perfect Movie”
Image
The 2009 horror-comedy Jennifer’s Body has built a cult following over the years, but it flopped at the time of its release, largely because of its misleading marketing campaign.

In a recent GQ video, Seyfried looked back on some of her most memorable roles. One of them being Jennifer’s Body. “I can’t critique this movie. It’s to me, a perfect movie,” she said.

The film starred Seyfried as Needy, a nerdy character whose best friend is Megan Fox’s Jennifer, who becomes possessed by a demon and eats boys at their high school. It was directed by Karyn Kusama and written by Diablo Cody (Juno, Lisa Frankenstein.)

The promotion was targeted to male audiences, with Fox seen in sexualized posters and ads. When really, the movie’s themes were about female empowerment and friendship. “If the critics criticize anything, it would be the marketing. The marketing sucked. It just did.
