‘Theatre and films satisfy me in very different ways’: Darshana Rajendran to Tnm
Image
InterviewMalayalam actor Darshana Rajendran, who has been proving herself afresh film after film, talks to Tnm about her transition from playing the protagonist’s ‘friend’ to doing lead roles, her theatre background, and more.CrisPhoto credit - Aishwarya AshokInteresting thing about Darshana Rajendran, an actor who keeps proving herself afresh film after film, is that she comes off as exactly the kind of person she has just played. In the beginning, when she made shorter appearances in Malayalam movies, you would take her for a supportive friend who hears you out, keeps you company in dark moments, and lets you lie down on her lap and sings to you. When she appeared in grander roles, you saw her as a tragic character that dies of a virus, a young woman trapped in sex trafficking, a lover ending up deserted in a haunted house or the depths of a forest. Darshana,...

Dear Friend review: Darshana-Tovino film is a cosy and engaging watch
Image
ReviewDirector Vineeth Kumar does a smooth job, putting you in a comfort zone and taking you away from it to hand you a mystery.CrisThere is a certain comfort when a movie starts off quietly, without making a big deal. Before you know it, Dear Friend has begun inside a house in Bengaluru where a few young people are making a mockery of their friend for his birthday, a tit for tat for previous mischiefs. Tovino Thomas, as the birthday boy Vinod, is soon out on the road wearing a hilarious superhero costume, with his underpants worn over it. The other friends are hooting and cheering along, till all of it ends badly and Vinod has an outburst. By then, you are pulled into the world of this little gang, written with clear precision by the Sharfu-Suhas combo known for Virus, along with Arjun Lal, the actor who played Mohanlal’s son in Thanmathra.

Sai Dharam Tej’s ‘Inttelligent’ bombs at box office, incurs loss of 15 cr.
Tollywood Sources in the know say that his decision to release Inttelligent in several areas is the reason for the losses incurred.Digital NativeReports are that the producer of the recently-released Inttelligent, C Kalyan of Ck Entertainments has suffered a huge loss to the tune of Rs. 15 crores. Inttelligent was sold for Rs. 27 crore in spite of Sai Dharam Tej’s recent track record. The film has turned out to be a flop following which the producer had to bear the brunt. Sources in the know say that his decision to release Inttelligent in several areas is the reason for the losses incurred. The biggest gain for the producer reportedly came from the satellite and digital rights he managed to sell much before the film’s release. There have been talks about the film’s director Vv Vinayak returning a part of his remuneration to settle the losses but these are unconfirmed reports, say sources. Directed by Vv Vinayak, whose last outing which was the comeback venture of the mega star Chiranjeevi, Khaidi No 150 was a blockbuster hit. And C Kalyan’s previous production venture Jai Simha, which had N Balakrishna in the lead role, was a hit as well. However, Inttelligent did not yield the desired results of both the producer as well as the director. Starring Sai Dharam Tej and Lavanya Tripathi in the lead roles, the film had Ashish Vidyarthi, Sayaji Shinde, Rahul Dev, Brahmanandam, Dev Gill, Vineeth Kumar, Kasi Viswanath, Jaya Prakash Reddy and Prudhvi Raj in the star cast. Music for the film has been composed by S. V. Vishweshwar and the editing has been done by Gowtham Raju. According to reports on its box office collections, Inttelligent has managed to collect a meagre Rs. 2 crores at the box office in both the states – Andhra and Telangana. With negative talks, the film’s collection further dwindled making it a flop, say trade sources. (Content provided by Digital Native)...

Ugly Movie Review
Ugly ugly hai biwi, ugly ugly hai husband, ugly ugly hai friends U G L Y, ugly ugly hai rishety, ugly ugly hai kishtey, ugly ugly hai duniya U G L Y. These lines penned by Vineet Singh for the title track summarise the world Anurag Kashyap brings to screen with his latest release. However, as always the world he puts on the screen sadly has very little to do with the fact the writer/director is a creative genius, but more to do with the fact that he observes life very closely. The ugly characters, the ugly situations and the ugly relationships are almost too confrontational because they remind you of things in your lives, your friends’ lives or something you’ve read or heard. After all, truth is stranger than fiction.

It is not very often that you watch a crime thriller and where the “who done it...
