‘Irish Blood’ Starring Alicia Silverstone Gets a Series Order from Acorn TV

Alicia Silverstone (Reptile) is confirmed to star in and executive produce Irish Blood, a new drama just greenlit by Acorn TV. Wendy Crewson (Tracker), Jason O’Mara (The Man In The High Castle), Dearbhla Molloy (Wild Mountain Thyme), Simone Kirby (His Dark Materials), Ruth Codd (The Fall of the House of Usher), and Leonardo Taiwo (Wheel of Time) are on board as series regulars.

“Irish Blood, a six-part murder mystery, focuses on Fiona (Silverstone), whose path in life is earmarked by her father, Declan, who seemingly abandoned her and her mother on her tenth birthday. Alicia Silverstone to Star in Mystery Drama ‘Irish Blood’ at Acorn TV

Alicia Silverstone is heading to the Emerald Isle for her next TV role.

Silverstone will star in and serve as an executive producer of Irish Blood, a murder-mystery drama from AMC Networks’ streamer Acorn TV. She’ll play Fiona Sharpe, a Los Angeles divorce lawyer who receives a letter from her estranged father and travels to Ireland to uncover the mystery of his disappearance.

Filming on the six-episode series has begun in Dublin. Irish Blood’s cast also features Wendy Crewson, Jason O’Mara, Dearbhla Molloy, Simone Kirby, Ruth Codd and Leonardo Taiwo.

“Irish Blood is the story of a woman discovering herself and confronting her past after traveling abroad unexpectedly,” Silverstone said in a statement. “I love how unpredictable the storytelling feels and the combination of drama, humor and suspense my character experiences.”

Exclusive: Archie Panjabi and Christopher Plummer have been set to lead an ensemble cast in the event thriller Departure. A Canada/UK co-production, the six-part drama will air on Canada’s Global in 2019. Shaftesbury and Greenpoint Productions are producing in association with Corus Entertainment. Starlings Television will co-finance and oversee distribution worldwide.

Created by Vincent Shiao, the conspiracy series follows the mystery of a passenger plane that vanishes over the Atlantic Ocean. Principal photography has just begun in Toronto with filming also to take place in London.

Winners at the 14th Wgc Awards
Yesterday, the ceremony of the Writers Guild of Canada Awards was hosted by comedian Debra Digiovanni. During that night, the winners, who work either in the film or television industry, were revealed.

Dishing out the awards were special guest presenters including Yannick Bisson (Murdoch Mysteries), Kristin Booth (Crackie, Young People Fucking), Inga Cadranel (The Bridge, Rent-a-Goalie), Enrico Colantoni (Flashpoint), and screenwriters Mark Farrell (Corner Gas, Dan for Mayor), Michael McGowan (Saint Ralph, One Week), Jennifer Pertsch (6Teen, Total Drama Island), Christin Simms (Captain Flamingo, Dino Dan), Shelley Eriksen (ReGenesis) and Leila Basen & David Preston (Heartland).
