Harrison Ford Says AI Cannot Replace Incredible Human Stunt Work in Movies
Image
Hollywood veteran Harrison Ford has never been one to shy away from talking about the realities of filmmaking, whether it involves storytelling, acting, or—most recently—the growing presence of AI. While CGI graphics and advanced technology continue to reshape the entertainment industry – mostly for the worse, it seems - Ford believes A.I. is not needed and there is something else out there that can easily "steal my soul:" Hollywood stunt performers.

In a recent conversation with the Wall Street Journal, Ford was asked about how he felt having his likeness replicated in projects such as the new Indiana Jones video game, which puts his face on the character that players get to control and journey with through a new Indy adventure. In his usual style, Ford detoured from specifically answering the question and explained how he believes that while technology can put someone’s face on another person’s body,...

Harrison Ford Talks ‘Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny’s Flop: “S— Happens”
Image
Although many Indiana Jones fans were unhappy with the last installment, Harrison Ford has made his peace with the character.

The Oscar nominee recently shared his reaction to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny‘s unsuccessful 2023 opening after taking one last adventure as the titular archaeologist in the James Mangold-helmed sequel.

“S— happens,” he told WSJ. Magazine of the film’s poor box office performance. “I was really the one who felt there was another story to tell. When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened.”

Ford added, “I’m still happy I made that movie.”

Dial of Destiny came amid a particularly rough 2023 for Disney, losing about $143 million on the...

Harrison Ford Talks About 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny' Flopping
Image
Harrison Ford has a reputation in Hollywood for telling it like it is and appearing to take just about anything in stride. It's a personality trait that has made him one of the most beloved people in the industry, and he continues to be the guy we can all rely on when discussing the box office failure of 2023's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. If it's something that bothered him, the actor isn't showing it. In fact, his response is very on-brand.

During an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ford was asked about the box office disappointment of the fifth Indiana Jones film, and the actor, who gives a very gruff and direct answer to begin his response, does admit that he's still very happy he made the film.

10 Surprising Box Office Flops From Major Franchises
Image
Making a new installment to a beloved franchise often feels like a surefire way for a studio to make a major profit. These films thrive on having a massive, pre-existing audience who already love the characters and stories that have been established within the universe of the franchise. Because of that, the filmmakers can often be quite confident that their latest installment in the series will attract plenty of people to the theater, securing a hefty paycheck for themselves at the end of the day.

However, a handful of poor performances over the years have proven that success is not always a guarantee. Every so often, a franchise gets a new installment that fails to live up to its predecessors on all accounts. These films can not only bomb with critics, but prove to be major flops at the box office, even failing to recuperate the money that went into making them.

Image
Adrien Brody, the star of one of 2024's best films, The Brutalist, recalls the harrowing experience that was shooting The Pianist, the film that earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor in 2003. The actor spoke to Vulture about his latest film, one he likes to compare to The Pianist. In The Brutalist, Brody gives life to László Tóth, a World War II Jewish survivor who moves to the United States after the war, and his life is completely turned around by a mogul who sees Tóth's skills in architecture. The film is already gaining award buzz, with Brody being at the forefront of a tight Oscar race. Thus, it makes sense that he is now reflecting on The...

Image
One of popular culture's most beloved and successful brands of cinema, Sci-Fi boasts some of the best movies of all time. A key element of this is the diverse array of memorable and compelling villains that the genre has produced over the years. Featuring iconic characters in the vein of 2001: A Space Odyssey's Hal 9000, The Matrix's Agent Smith, or Star Wars' Darth Vader, the best sci-fi movie villains of all time feature prominently on any list of wider cinema's finest antagonists.

However, for every celebrated bad guy that the genre has to offer, there's at least one tragically underrated sci-fi movie villain who doesn't get enough recognition from mainstream audiences. Whether the character in question is overshadowed by more prominent antagonists who appear in their parent franchise or simply ends up getting lost in the shuffle with an array of broadly similar competitors, science fiction plays host...

10 War Movie Box Office Flops That Deserved Better
Image
Despite some war movies telling compelling stories and being visually spectacular showcases of pure cinema, these achievements dont always equate to astounding box office success. Several incredible war movies have flopped at the box office, being outshined by bigger releases or sadly being forgotten by modern viewers. Although a box office flop doesn't necessarily mean a financial loss, it often implies that the film didn't meet its potential or expectations.

Many of the best war movies ever didnt earn big at the box office, and there were many powerful depictions of lesser-known conflicts that viewers didnt turn out for. While some of the best directors of all time have put passion and power behind extraordinary cinematic showcases of battle, conflict, and warfare, these have not always earned the kind of enduring legacy they deserve despite having such a high quality. While its always disappointing when a great war movie does...

10 Impactful War Movies That Will Emotionally Stick With You Forever

Truly impactful war movies have the potential to leave an eternal mark on viewers who carry forward this powerful cinematic experience for the rest of their lives. From brutal depictions of soldiers on the battlefield to uncompromising showcases of the psychological horror of life during wartime, conflict-based cinema has consistently spread an anti-war message that connects with viewers in ways that other media often cant. As the visual depiction of warfare gets presented to audiences in its purest form, this can leave an impression on viewers that lasts a lifetime.

Many of the greatest directors who ever lived have made truly timeless war movies so brutal they can only be endured once. However, the sheer power of that singular viewing can be so memorable that the visions of war are seared in the audiences subconscious for decades to come. While these emotionally intense war movies will surely make for uncomfortable viewing,...

10 Directors Who Hated Sequels to Their Own Movies
Image
It's not always easy to master a movie sequel. Sometimes the later additions feel like rehashes of other movies in the franchise, offering no new content or original ideas. Other times, the sequel is a complete misstep where the characters don't feel as fleshed out as they were in the first movie. Even the best directors aren't able to strike gold twice, which is why there are so many of them who hate sequels to their own movies.

No director is immune to churning out a subpar sequel. Great filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, John Landis, and Sam Raimi have stumbled along the way at some point. These directors were extremely disappointed by their own movie sequels, to the point where they have even disowned them in public statements. Sometimes the fans like these movies, but the artist behind the camera proved to be their own worst critic.

10 Movies With A Way Higher Critic Score Than Audience Score On Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Its shocking just how different critics' opinions of a film can be from audiences, as proved by the massive disparity of certain movies' scores on Rotten Tomatoes. These were movies that, for one reason or another, ticked all the right boxes for professional critics and left general audiences feeling disappointed or, in some cases, downright hateful toward a release. Whether it was remakes of beloved classics, movies that didnt line up with audience expectations, or franchise entries that went in surprising new directions, there are plenty of movies that divided critics and viewers.

Some of the most controversial movies ever split critics and audiences and have remained highly divisive. Ranging from adventure movies with a monster as the focus to high-octane action movies, these films can appeal to audiences of all stripes.

American Kaiju movies house some of the best effects in cinema, with figures like King Kong and Godzilla cast in fresh adventures, as well as original monster movies. From cult classics to blockbuster epics, Americans are spoiled for entertaining films about giant monsters causing havoc. Whether they're classic B-movies or modern CGI masterpieces, Hollywood has shown itself capable of making some of the best Kaiju movies out there.

‘American Star’ Review
Image
Stars: Ian McShane, Nora Arnezeder, Oscar Coleman, Adam Nagaitis, Fanny Ardent, Thomas Kretschmann | Written by Nacho Faerna | Directed by Gonzalo López-Gallego

American Star is the latest film from Spanish director Gonzalo López-Gallego whose output has ranged from Apollo 18 and Open Grave to Backdraft 2, a 28-year later Dtv sequel to the 1991 hit. Here he and writer Nacho Faerna are presenting a variation on a well-worn theme, the criminal who’s about to pull off their last job before retiring.

In this case, the criminal is a hitman named Wilson who has come to Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands to perform what should be an easy assignment. But complications ensue right from the start, when he drives out to the unnamed target’s secluded house, he’s not there. Someone does arrive, but it’s a young woman, not the man he was expecting. Wilson bides his time, then slips out unseen,...

Does Deliver Us Subvert The Omen's Shocking Twist?
Image
Deliver Us offers a fresh and layered ending that differs from the one seen in The Omen and similar films. Deliver Us explores the moral compass of parents who respect their children's agency and rely on faith. The twins in Deliver Us have the freedom to make their own decisions, which makes them more intriguing characters than Damien in The Omen.

When it comes to horror franchises, The Omen is one of the most iconic. This original movie focused on the Antichrist being born to the Thorn family, only for a cult to machinate things so that the family dies and Damien rises to power to rule the world. It led to a fourth movie that dealt with his daughter, Delia, being conditioned to do the same, which is an arc that the 2006 reboot and an A&e TV series also tried to copy.

Unfortunately, the new takes didn't register as...

Upgraded Review | A Throwback to Romantic Comedy Comfort Movies
Image
Camila Mendes delivers a great performance in Upgraded, elevating the material. Upgraded is a cozy comfort watch for fans of traditional romantic comedies, with a strong supporting cast. While it hints at socially relevant topics, it never delivers on them, and the film can feel derivative at times and doesn't follow through on its potential.

Upgraded, not to be confused with Leigh Whannel's 2018 R-rated action movie Upgrade, is the latest entry from Prime Video as their major Valentine's Day weekend tie-in. Starting in 2021 with the release of The Map of Tiny Perfect Things, the streamer has released yearly romance movies as a viewing option for couples over the romantic holiday that in the past likely would have been mid-budget theatrical releases. These have yielded mixed results, from 2022's delightfully funny I Want You Back to the well-intentioned but tonally confused Somebody I Used to Know in 2023. Upgraded feels like...

10 MCU Romances That Almost Destroyed Characters
Image
The MCU has generally done well with relationships, but some miss the mark. Some MCU relationships risked ruining the character development of both people involved as the connection seemed out of character. Other disappointing MCU relationships just didn't work due to a lack of chemistry.

With how many couples the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been home to, some romances are bound to not work out. Every fan has their opinion on the MCU’s best couple and with that comes couples that just don’t quite hit the mark with some audiences. Putting pure opinion aside, some MCU pairings would’ve objectively taken a toll on individual characters if they stayed together.

Ian McShane Slams John Wick Prequel Series The Continental as a 'Cash Grab'
Image
The Continental TV series, a spin-off of the John Wick franchise, received mixed reviews upon its release on Peacock. Ian McShane, who plays Winston Scott in the John Wick films, criticized The Continental and called it a "cash grab." McShane and other John Wick actors are expected to appear in future spin-offs, including the film Ballerina and a new anime series.

The Continental made its debut on Peacock earlier this year in September, with a three-episode season set in 1970s New York City. The series followed the origin of the hotel-for-assassins featured throughout the John Wick franchise, starring a young Winston Scott, played by Colin Woodell. The same character is played by Ian McShane in the films, appearing in all four installments thus far. By the time the John Wick movies begin, he is the owner of the New York Continental Hotel and a friend of Keanu Reeves's titular character.
