Kalju Komissarov is an Estonian and Soviet theater and film director, actor, teacher. People's Artist of the Estonian SSR.
In 1968 Kalju graduated from the Faculty of Performing Arts of the Tallin Conservatory. Since 1965 he has been an actor at the Tallinfilm film studio. From 1968 to 1974 he worked as a director there. In 1974-1986 he was the director of the Tallin City and Youth Theater of the ESSR, in 1989-1991 he was the artistic director of the Ugala Drama Theater in Viljandi, then in 1986-1988 and 1991-2000 - the main director of the Ugala Theater. From 1986 to 1995 he headed the Higher School of Performing Arts of the Estonian Academy of Music. Since 2002, Komissarov has headed the performing arts department of the Viljandi College of Culture. He worked as a teacher and head of the theater department. In 2013-2014 he worked as artistic director of the Pärnu Endla Theater.
