You’ve Probably Never Heard of the Obscure Japanese Job That Inspired Death Stranding’s Core Mechanic
Image
In the world of video games, Hideo Kojima is known for thinking outside the box. So when he introduced the weird but unique world of Death Stranding, which was centered around delivering packages through isolated, rugged terrain, most thought it was just another one of his eccentric concepts.

But behind this dystopian sci-fi game lies a very real, very old Japanese job: Bokka. While in the game we deliver cryptic packages across an eerie and lonely post-apocalyptic world, the inspiration is surprisingly grounded in reality, drawn directly from the long mountain trails of Japan.

The real-life porters who inspired Sam Porter Bridges in Death Stranding

For those who don’t know, in Japanese, bokka (歩荷) roughly translates to “walking cargo.” It’s an obscure but still-active profession in Japan. These porters are tasked with delivering massive loads of goods (often over 60-70 kgs) to isolated and dangerous places, hidden in mountain trails.

‘Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’ Out Now; “Final Trailer” Released [Watch]
Hideo Kojima
Just in case you missed it, Hideo Kojima‘s next epic title in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is now available on the PlayStation 5. And to go along with the release, we’ve been gifted the “Final” trailer (not the launch trailer).

Picking up from the end of Death Stranding, players once again follow Sam (Norman Reedus) as he embarks on an inspiring mission of human connection. Joined by old companions and new comrades, he sets out on a journey beyond the Uca, traversing a world beset by otherworldly enemies to save humanity from extinction haunted by the question: should we have connected?

Alongside Reedus, Léa Seydoux and Troy Baker return to Hideo Kojima’s genre defying universe. They will be joined by Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, and Academy Award-winning film director George Miller.

To recap, we had the first gameplay reveal for Death Stranding 2 a few weeks ago during Summer Game Fest,...

12 Years After His First Video Game Appearance, Norman Reedus Finally Looks Like Norman Reedus
Image
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is out today, and it's already managed a pretty successful achievement: making Norman Reedus' in-game model actually look like Norman Reedus. As an actor, Reedus has a long history of video game appearances: he's best known for his appearance as The Walking Dead character Daryl Dixon, whom he plays in a variety of video game cameos. He's also had a long history of collaborations with Hideo Kojima, beginning with the canceled Silent Hills. But in all his video game appearances, developers could never get one thing right: an accurate model of Norman Reedus' face.

That goes for his previous work with Kojima, too: a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Sucumba Games displays the "evolution of Norman Reedus' modeling," with screenshots of Reedus-based characters in games on the PS3, PS4, and PS5, including the first Death Stranding. While they always bear a certain likeness to the real Reedus,...

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Review – Kojima’s Outback Odyssey
Image
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach arrives as Hideo Kojima’s most confident work in years, transforming the experimental foundation of its predecessor into something that feels both familiar and revolutionary. The game thrusts Sam Porter Bridges back into the remains of civilization eleven months after the first game’s finale.

Now living in rural Mexico with toddler Lou, Sam is drawn out of retirement when Fragile recruits him for an audacious contract: extend the Chiral Network from Central America across Australia, stitching together isolated settlements before the next extinction pulse hits.

Hideo Kojima’s sequel keeps the strand-type ethos intact—half logistical simulator, half stealth-action sandbox—yet expands its scale through harsher biomes, dynamic weather that reshapes rivers in real time, and an asynchronous online layer where players co-author infrastructure.

The design speaks to individual resilience filtered through communal support: every ladder, monorail segment, or zip-line dropped by another...

A Wild Rumor Says Sony’s Letting Nintendo Have One of Its Top Exclusives
Image
Nintendo’s upcoming first-party games include titles like Donkey Kong Bonanza and Metroid Prime 4, basically typical titles that you’d expect on the platform. However, a surprising rumor has hinted at a potential Sony title making its way to the console.

A reputed Nintendo YouTuber has heard from his sources about a new Nintendo Direct that’s set to take place next month, which makes sense considering they skipped out on Summer Games Fest this month.

If the rumor of the Sony title being announced at the next Direct, among other Nintendo titles, turns out to be true, then Nintendo fans are in for a mighty fine time, as the title is one of PlayStation’s best works to date.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut is rumored for the Nintendo Switch 2

Wood Hawker from the famous YouTube channel BeatEmUps stated that a Direct is set to take place next month...

Hideo Kojima Won’t Be Too Happy With the Death Stranding 2 Reviews
Image
We’re just a few days away from the official launch of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, but the embargo on reviews has been lifted. Early impressions suggest that Hideo Kojima and his team have delivered something that’s going down in history books. Finally, folks, we have a PlayStation exclusive that’s worth the hype.

Most of the developers, especially Todd Howard, would be celebrating such a feat and even teasing us with sequels down the line. However, Kojima isn’t that person. Ironically, the wave of appreciation for Death Stranding 2 is probably a big letdown for him, as he never wanted the title to appeal to the mainstream. But here we are.

Hideo Kojima didn’t want Death Stranding 2 to be an immediate success

Usually, when sequels generate more buzz than the original games, it’s a great sign for the developer. However, Hideo Kojima isn’t...

‘Death Stranding 2: On the Beach’ Is the Year’s Most Hopeful Blockbuster
Image
Like anyone who’s played their way through the last 30 years (or more) of Hideo Kojima’s work, I’ve come to expect a certain degree of eccentricity from Aaa gaming’s most distinctive auteur. Be that as it may, Kojima’s fetishistic cinephilia made “Death Stranding” — its cast partially composed of famous directors whose photorealistic likenesses are embodied by actors via performance capture — a uniquely strange experience for movie people like me.

Heartman, a scientist who dies every 21 minutes (only to get shocked back to life by the battery pack on his chest shortly thereafter), is modeled after Nicolas Winding Refn. Deadman, a researcher whose body has been Frankensteined together from borrowed parts, is naturally made to resemble Guillermo del Toro. A character known as “The Film Director,” seen only in hologram, is a perfect scan of Jordan Vogt-Roberts, whose long-gestating “Metal Gear Solid” adaptation will probably never be seen at all.

Death Stranding 2 Debuts To Impressive Metacritic Review Score - But It Still Falls Short Of Kojima's Best
Image
Reviews are trickling in for legendary game creator Hideo Kojima's latest title, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and the reception is almost universally positive, even though the game does not quite meet the lofty expectations set by some of Kojima's prior work. Earlier this year, Kojima stated that internal players were already enjoying the game more than its predecessor, and it seems the general critic audience is now in agreement with Kojima's previous claims.

According to Metacritic, Death Stranding 2, as of this writing, is sitting at metascore of 90, making it one of the best-reviewed games of the year, and is also sitting quite a bit higher than the first Death Stranding on Metacritic, which has an 82 metascore. However, it is also slightly trailing other games by Kojima, such as Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

How Does 90 Compare To Other Kojima Games?...

‘Death Stranding 2’ Is An Erratic, Messy, And Emotionally Brutal Masterpiece
Image
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is like a symphony — a gorgeous classical concerto where an electric guitar occasionally cuts in to shred an off-putting, yet surprisingly sick riff. As a whole, it’s weird and uneven, but there’s something undeniably compelling about how those disparate parts fit together.

If there’s one thing Death Stranding 2 (out June 26) isn’t lacking, it’s ambition. This is one of creator Hideo Kojima’s (Metal Gear Solid) biggest and boldest games yet — unrelentingly building on the vision and style of its predecessor.

28 Years Later Takes In $60M Worldwide; Elio Earns Pixar's Worst Debut Ever With Just $20M Domestic
Image
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's 28 Years Later is now in theaters, and the long-awaited sequel is off to a pretty good start at the global box office. According to the latest updates, the movie took in $30 million domestically and $30 million overseas, for a $60 million worldwide debut.

Not a bad result for an R-rated horror film with a reported production budget of $75 million, but it will be interesting to see how the movie continues to perform in the coming weeks. Reviews were excellent, but general audiences haven't really embraced 28 Years Later as wholeheartedly, and word of mouth may be key to continued box office success.

Universal/DreamWorks’ live-action How to Train Your Dragon remake held on to the No. 1 spot with a $37 million second weekend, but it's far less positive news for another family-friendly adventure which hit theaters this weekend.

Disney/Pixar’s Elio took in just $21 million...

“I could probably make games in space”: Hideo Kojima’s Lifelong Dream Is to Create a Video Game in Space
Image
Hideo Kojima is not your average creative genius. While most dream big, Kojima dreams beyond. Even among visionaries, he’s a category of one: constantly trying to outdo himself, chasing not just innovation, but reinvention.

Many find his ideas weird or unusually abstract, but for Kojima, that’s just a normal day at the office. He often reins in his surreal imagination to fit the limitations of Earth.

But now, he wants to go further, literally into space, to create a game aboard the International Space Station. It’s not about spectacle anymore. It’s about unlocking something truly unique.

Even gravity can’t hold Hideo Kojima down

Whether he’s brainstorming from an office chair or guiding actors through motion capture sessions, Hideo Kojima is almost always the most creative mind in the room. But even Earth’s gravity feels too limiting for a creator who sees storytelling as a universal force.

Blockbuster Star, 36, "Floored" After Hideo Kojima Reviews 2025 True Story Thriller Movie
Hideo Kojima
After Hideo Kojima shared his review for Last Breath, star Simu Liu now takes to social media with his reaction. Directed by Alex Parkinson, the 2025 survival thriller tells the true story of deep-sea diver Chris Lemons (Finn Cole) and the daring rescue that his crewmates stage after he becomes trapped far below the ocean's surface. Liu stars in the Last Breath cast as Dave Yuasa, with Woody Harrelson playing Duncan Allock, Cliff Curtis playing Andre Jenson, and Mark Bonnar playing Craig. The film was released in February, earning generally positive reviews.

Among the positive reviews for Last Breath is one from Kojima, who finally caught up with the film, and Liu has evidently now seen the legendary video game creator's thoughts. In a post on X on June 15, Kojima shared a glowing review, praising the movie for its "unrelenting sense of claustrophobia and oxygen-deprived tension" before then calling out Liu specifically,...

Sony Could Save Monolith’s Nemesis System if the Rumors Are True
Image
Last Updated on Jun 20, 2025 @ 14:17:14 Pm.

The gaming community was understandably upset when the news broke about Warner Bros Games locking away Monolith’s Nemesis System behind a wall of patent ownership. The driving force behind Shadow of Mordor and its sequel, Shadow of War, Monolith received a lot of praise for its innovative take on an army of Orcs that remembered how Talion and Celebrimbor took them down when they came back to exact revenge.

While the Nemesis System was slated to return in Monolith’s take on Wonder Woman, that project regrettably never saw the light of day as Monolith was shut down and Warner Bros retained ownership of its incredible invention.

A New Twist in the Tale

However, Sony might be Nemesis Systems’ saviour if rumours about its intention to purchase Warner Bros’ assets are true. InsiderGaming reports that Sony is looking to acquire the HBO Max streaming service,...

Hideo Kojima’s Take on the Future Perfectly Rivals Black Mirror’s Cynicism
Image
Hideo Kojima is one of the most revered video game producers and designers in the industry. He has been delivering masterpieces since his first project, Metal Gear, in 1987, and has been a seminal figure in game video development. If you were a video game fan from the 2000s, then chances are you’ve probably experienced his unique vision through his games.

Kojima has been a fan of film and literature since his adolescence, and he developed a strong passion for it, which is often clear in the type of video game projects he developed. His approach to the sci-fi genre is rather unique than most producers who indulge in the topic, and this was confirmed by Woodkid in a recent interview. Let’s delve deeper into this.

Hideo Kojima’s sci-fi world is not all gloomy and dystopian

Hideo Kojima Will Oversee Death Stranding Film — But Won’t Interfere: “I’ll Let Them Work Without Too Much Input”
Image
Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding is branching out from video games into films, with two distinct projects in development. In a recent interview, Kojima shared details about a live-action movie and an animated feature, both expanding the unique world he created.

The live-action Death Stranding film is being crafted with A24, known for bold and creative projects. Michael Sarnoski, the director behind Pig, is set to helm the movie, with producers Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen on board.

Kojima Productions first announced the film in December 2022, partnering with Hammerstone Studios and executive producer Allan Ungar. A24 joined as co-producer in December 2023, and Sarnoski was confirmed as director in April 2025. The film is targeting a 2027 release.

Hideo Kojima to Oversee Death Stranding Movie — But Won’t Micromanage: “I’ll let them work on it without too much of my input”
Image
The Death Stranding universe is expanding fast, and Hideo Kojima is letting others take the lead, at least when it comes to the upcoming movie.

In a recent interview, Kojima talked about the live-action Death Stranding film, which is being developed with A24. The project is set to be directed by Pig filmmaker Michael Sarnoski, with producers Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen also involved.

Though Kojima is helping guide the project, he says he won’t be stepping in too much during the creative process.

“I think I will help produce it – I need to kind of guide the project – but I can’t direct it myself, schedule-wise,” Kojima said. “I made Death Stranding as a game, so in order to turn it into a movie, it’ll be something totally different. But it’s my baby, so I would like to overlook the project.”

‘There’s Less Weird People Now’: Nier Creator Yoko Taro Nails What’s Wrong With the Gaming Industry
Image
Yoko Taro, the mastermind behind games like Nier and Drakengard, has always walked a different path from most developers. His rebellious attitude and refusal to follow the gaming industry norms have earned him quite a reputation. Almost all of Taro’s titles are unconventional, which is why they feel fresh too.

Apart from being a full-time enigmatic individual, Yoko Taro is also an active X user. That’s why you will frequently find him interacting with fans and doing Q&a sessions to ease their curiosity. In a recent Q&a session, the Japanese game director strangely said that the world has fewer weird people now. Well, it’s definitely a quirky remark.

Yoko Taro believes the gaming industry lacks some weirdos

While the gaming industry provides marketable elements in their Aaa titles, Taro has found the recipe for success in his weirdness. The definition of weirdness for him is...

Hideo Kojima on How His Illness Affected ‘Death Stranding 2,’ Developing A24 Film Adaptation and Why His Collaboration With Gu Is About More Than Fashion
Image
Hideo Kojima is excited we are sitting across from each other. I am too, of course, but I was perfectly satisfied just getting the chance to even interview the video game industry legend over Zoom back in September 2024, the last time we spoke.

It’s early June and annual video game expo Summer Game Fest is raging on in Downtown Los Angeles while I meet Kojima and his team in a quiet conference room at a hotel off-site. Kojima is in town to promote the June 26 release of his highly anticipated “Death Stranding 2: On the Beach,” the sequel to the Norman Reedus-led 2019 game, and the Aaa title’s collaboration with fashion brand Gu, which is out Thursday.

I’ve come saddled with bags of items I’ve already gathered while working the event, including one featuring the “Magic: The Gathering” and “Final Fantasy” collaboration, and it’s the...

Hideo Kojima’s ‘Death Stranding’ Anime Already Has ‘Prisoners’ Writer On Board
Image
Okay, so Kojima’s at it again, and this time, he’s reviving Death Stranding, but not as another game, nor even a live-action movie (although that’s on the way too). Nope. We’re getting an anime. And you know what? He didn’t just hire some random screenwriter off the street. Kojima has tapped Aaron Guzikowski, the guy who wrote Prisoners and the super underrated sci-fi series Raised by Wolves.

That’s right. This anime’s gonna be trippy, emotional, existential, and just the right kind of disturbing. But the best part? It’s not a straight adaptation of the game. No walking simulator remake. This is a new story, one that takes place in the grim, supernatural universe of Death Stranding. So expect invisible ghost monsters, weird time rain, and probably someone crying while hiking across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Classic Kojima.

Welcome to the weird, beautiful world...

Hideo Kojima Worried Covid Would Rob Him and Us of His Willingness to Create
Image
There’s one thing that’s inevitable and we all think about it: death. Video game auteur Hideo Kojima, too, had this thought when the Covid pandemic was spreading all across the earth. During 2020, he seriously fell ill, and recovery seems a long-lost thing to him. But it’s 2025 now, and Mr. Kojima is 61 years old and waiting for the global release of his next game, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, where he has put some good emphasis on music. Recently, he was talking to GQ magazine, where he shared this experience with them. He said,

Parts of Death Stranding 2’s Soundtrack Are Computer-Made — But It’s Definitely Not AI Slop

When it comes to tailor-crafting a game as surreal as Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, you have to take care of every single aspect, including the soundtrack. Thankfully, we don’t have to worry even the slightest because the work of Hideo Kojima speaks for itself. Recently, in an interview, Woodkid confirmed that some parts of Death Stranding 2‘s soundtrack are computer-made. A Second Death Stranding Movie Is Already In Development
Image
A second Death Stranding movie is already in development. Created by Hideo Kojima, the 2019 video game is set in a post-apocalyptic United States overrun by deadly creatures and follows a courier who delivers supplies to isolated colonies and works to reconnect them through a wireless communication network. In December 2022, a live-action Death Stranding movie was announced, and in the following years, the studio A24 and director Michael Sarnoski came aboard the project, which is being planned for a 2027 release.

Now, a second adaptation is already in development. According to Deadline, an animated Death Stranding movie is also in the works, with the screenplay being written by Aaron Guzikowski, whose credits include the HBO Max sci-fi series Raised by Wolves. The animated film will feature an original story set in the Death Stranding universe, taking place after a series of devastating global explosions that cause a mysterious link between the living and the dead.

'Death Stranding' Video Game Franchise Getting Another Movie Adaptation
Image
The world of Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding is continuing to expand past the medium of video games. In a report from Deadline, it's been revealed that a new animated feature-length film based on the world of the hit video game is in the works, with a writer attached to the project. This animated project is already the second Death Stranding adaptation on the way, as production company A24 previously announced that it will be making a live-action film, with Michael Sarnoski attached to write and direct.

Aaron Guzikowski, who is best known for writing the Max original series Raised By Wolves as well as the Denis Villeneuve film Prisoners, has signed to pen the screenplay for the upcoming animated film. Death Stranding animated movie coming from Hideo Kojima and Raised By Wolves creator Aaron Guzikowski
Hideo Kojima
Video game auteur Hideo Kojima has another new project on the way set in the world of his visionary game Death Stranding. Deadline reports that Kojima's company Kojima Productions and animation company Line Mileage will be teaming up to produce a new Death Stranding movie, which is separate from the previously announced live-action Death Stranding movie with A24.

A new Death Stranding animated film is cool enough news, but the thing that really caught my attention is who will be writing the screenplay: Aaron Guzikowski, the creator of HBO Max's mind-bending science fiction show Raised By Wolves.

Guzikowski has lain low since the cancellation of Raised By Wolves in 2022; I haven't seen his name pop up in any major industry news until now. But this is a hell of a way to come back, as well as an amazing pairing of unique talents who feel very well-suited for a collaboration.

“That’s my ideal”: Hideo Kojima’s Praise for Sandfall’s Small Team Fuels Layoff Speculation at Kojima Productions
Image
All eyes are on Hideo Kojima as there’s a lot of anticipation for his upcoming video game, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. It took years of hard work to set up Kojima Productions, and undoubtedly, it is one of the most successful indie studios in the world. However, Kojima is a humble man and likes to give flowers where they are due.

He recently praised Sandfall Interactive for its small team size and the success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. While on that topic, Kojima added that he prefers to work with a small team, which fuels the speculation that Kojima Productions will let go of some of its employees as it has exceeded the 200 mark.

Death Stranding 2 Was a Hit in Testing — so Hideo Kojima Changed What Worked
Image
We are in the final days before the launch of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and we couldn’t be more excited. This upcoming title may be Hideo Kojima’s most ambitious project yet. But in classic Kojima fashion, the game that fans are about to play isn’t exactly the one that first won over early testers.

In fact, Death Stranding 2 was initially so well-received during internal playtests that Kojima made the surprising decision to go back and rewrite key parts of the story. Why? Because people liked it too much. But what does this even mean for the game? We’ll find out on June 26.

Hideo Kojima didn’t design Death Stranding 2 to be a game for everyone

According to composer Yoann Lemoine, better known as Woodkid, Kojima was alarmed when feedback indicated that players “liked it too much.” In an interview with Rolling Stone, Lemoine recalled Kojima stating bluntly,...

“News that I have to share”: Red Dead Redemption Star Is Hyping a Major Announcement in the Coming Days
Image
Red Dead Redemption is arguably one of Rockstar Games’ best franchises in recent memory, alongside the Grand Theft Auto series. The gaming community became invested in John Marston’s story as a father trying to protect his family, and after an equally impressive prequel featuring his past and Arthur Morgan’s story.

As a major title, fans hoped to see the prequel receive the remaster treatment for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S; however, this doesn’t seem to be a priority for the developers. Rumors and speculations have circulated on the internet, and there is a slim chance that it may be a possibility after one of the stars is hyping an upcoming announcement in the next few days.

It’s Been 10 Years Since That Uncharted E3 Moment
Image
Last Updated on Jun 16, 2025 @ 18:01:00 Pm.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End marks the end of Nathan Drake’s career as a treasure hunter as he traded his grappling hook for a normal life. Drake has been a PlayStation mascot over the years, and the developers made great strides to deliver a compelling story that elevates the franchise while giving him a proper farewell.

The year was 2015, and it was one of the strongest times of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3 for short. Fans from all over the world gathered to see what major publishers had in store, and one moment stood out, but not for the reason many would think.

10 Actors Who Are Rumored To Join Marvel's X-Men Reboot
Image
2025 is an exciting summer for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hot off the release of "Thunderbolts*," the franchise is set to expand even further into the multiverse with the highly-anticipated release of "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" in July, but some of the biggest news in the film series is happening off-screen. Currently, "Avengers: Doomsday" is in production, though the release of it and "Avengers: Secret Wars" has been pushed back, now set to release in December of 2026 and 2027, respectively.

These new crossover films have already been confirmed to feature the introduction of many "X-Men" characters into the MCU, with the likes of Ian McKellan, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, and Rebecca Romijn officially reprising their roles as the mutants Magneto, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and Mystique. They'll be joining other "X-Men" characters like Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier or Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, previously brought into the MCU in parallel universes.

Keeping This One Outdated Feature Might Be Metal Gear Solid Delta’s Most Brilliant Decision Yet
Image
We all know how remakes work in the gaming industry by now. You take an old game, rebuild it from the ground up, and make every part of the game look better. Konami is doing the same thing in 2025 with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, except it isn’t?

According to the latest Metal Gear Solid Production Hotline, the developers have decided to keep one part of Mgs 3 intact, and you might’ve guessed it already. We’ve already seen the game’s new graphics, new combat, and all that jazz. But we’re going to see the same Secret Theater gag reels in the remake, and that’s perfect.

Metal Gear Solid Delta is going to have the Og Secret Theater cutscenes

In case you didn’t know yet, Secret Theater is a collection of comedic alternate cutscenes, originally made just for the developers’ own amusement at Mgs 3‘s wrap party.

“Maybe this is a problem”: Death Stranding 2 Director Isn’t a Fan of Early Praise
Image
Last Updated on Jun 13, 2025 @ 16:18:18 Pm.

The Death Stranding sequel is expected to be a major step up from the original game. From storytelling to gameplay and combat, the developers behind this project are well aware of how fans felt about the first game. While the director was never concerned about how the gaming community perceives his projects at release, the sudden change in direction didn’t sit right with him for this game.

The Death Stranding Sequel Is Getting Praised Quite Early The director’s goal is to make something controversial, not an immediate hit. Image Credit: Kojima Productions

The original Death Stranding had a mixed reception at launch. Other than being hailed as a glorified walking simulator, not everyone could get into the story due to the slow pace. The gameplay can be chore, especially with all the sorting and resource management to carry important cargo and...

Woodkid Says Hideo Kojima Changed ‘Death Stranding 2’ Because It Wasn’t ‘Polarizing’

Over the course of his more than 20-year career, Woodkid (real name Yoann Lemoine) has worked in just about every medium. The French singer-songwriter started his career in as a CGI artist in video games before becoming a prolific music video director, helming videos like Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” Taylor Swift’s “Back to December,” and Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times.” In 2011, he shifted yet again with the release of his own EP, titled Iron EP.

Since then, he’s continued down the path as a musician, releasing...

How Hideo Kojima Plans to Keep His Studio Thriving Even After He’s Gone
Image
Hideo Kojima is regarded as a legend within the gaming community, and once again, he is all set to prove why he has earned that title with the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. He started his career at Konami and later founded Kojima Productions within Konami.

It’s hard to imagine someone else taking over Kojima at Kojima Productions, but he is prepared for that day. He has one condition: No one at the company must replicate what he has created. He strongly believes that the company would not succeed if someone else tried to imitate what he did. Kojima has thought about the future and has even created a Usb full of ideas that his successors can use after his death.

Hideo Kojima Has Revealed the One Thing That Could Kill His Own Studio, and It’s Shockingly On Brand
Image
Hideo Kojima has a huge place in all of our hearts for the weird yet striking projects he delivered to the gaming community. This one specific part of Kojima cannot be replicated, as minds are different for all. Not only can others not replicate it, but Kojima’s own team can’t pull it off, and he is aware of that.

A while ago, we learned that Kojima left his “will” on a Usb drive, which contains all his ideas for the future. Even though that’s the case, he doesn’t want the team to try to become him, as it could threaten the business. Moreover, he doesn’t want his production to keep on creating sequels; rather, he wants to move on and push unique projects.

Hideo Kojima believes following in his footsteps could run his production house out of business Weird or not, it’s beautiful. | Image...

Death Stranding Knotted up My Brain – But Kojima Still Wants to Get Weirder
Image
If there’s any game that made me question every single aspect of it, from the mechanics to the story to why I was even carrying a crying baby in a bottle across a dystopian America, and still had me completely hooked, it’s Death Stranding.

It was strange, sometimes baffling, yet absolutely captivating. That’s thanks to the creative genius behind it: Hideo Kojima. His creativity isn’t outside the box; it’s orbiting a distant star while we’re still figuring out the instruction manual. So, when he revealed he’s limiting himself? That stunned me.

We’re living in Kojima’s safe zone, and that’s the scary part

As I sit here waiting for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on June 26, I can’t help but wonder what fresh slice of surrealism Hideo Kojima will throw at us next. The first game made me feel...

Hideo Kojima’s Biggest Fear Is an Inevitable Monster We All Fall Victim To
Image
How much time do we have in this world to do everything we’ve ever wanted to do? It’s no surprise that even an auteur like Hideo Kojima can’t find the answer to this question and fears its inevitability.

Time isn’t stopping for anyone, no matter how talented you are or how much money you have, and we’re all destined to fall prey to its relentless clutches. Conversations about life and death are often unsettling, yet they give a new perspective to this life of ours.

Since Kojima’s illness, his outlook towards life and video game development has changed, with his urge to create something more fierce than ever. However, his biggest fear is something we can all relate to.

Hideo Kojima’s biggest fear is the limitation set by time on his desire to create

Hideo Kojima's 4 Favorite Movies Are All Bangers
Image
Anyone who's played a game from acclaimed Japanese video game designer Hideo Kojima can tell he's a big fan of movies. His games, like the "Metal Gear" series and "Death Stranding," are well known for being deeply cinematic with wildly complex plots, and he's gotten some pretty famous movie-makers to take on roles in them. In fact, "Death Stranding" features not only actors Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Margaret Qualley, and Léa Seydoux, but it also includes vocal and motion-capture performances by directors Nicolas Winding Refn and Guillermo del Toro. Now, with Kojima and A24 now in the process of turning "Death Stranding" into an actual movie, it seems prudent to look into the impressive creative's favorite films.

Recently, Kojima has both visited the Criterion closet to discuss some of his favorite films and been asked about his favorite four movies by GQ, and while there's a tiny bit of overlap,...

Video game designer Hideo Kojima calls Martin Scorsese the "second god" to the 80-year-old who directed ScreenRant's best movie of the 2010s..
Image
Hideo Kojima calls Martin Scorsese the "second god" to another director, the 80-year-old who made perhaps the best movie of the 2010s. The video game designer behind Metal Gear, Zone of the Enders and Death Stranding is hardly the only person to express admiration for the director behind Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, The Departed, and countless more movie classics.

Kojima’s games are indeed quite cinematic themselves, and groundbreaking besides, so it should come as no surprise that he draws inspiration from one of real cinema’s greatest and most innovative artists. But one Scorsese film stands above all others according to the legendary game designer. Naming his favorite films of all-time, Kojima cited Taxi Driver among his top four. But he also praised a film by another director for whom he has revealed even greater reverence.

Hideo Kojima Names His 4 Favorite Movies & Each One Is By A Different Legendary Director
Image
Iconic game designer Hideo Kojimarevealed his four favorite films, and they were made by some of the greatest directors in cinema history. Kojima might be from the world of gaming, but his style has always pushed the boundaries of what the medium could offer by incorporating cinematic ideas. Starting all the way back in 1987 with Metal Gear, Kojima's projects not only delivered compelling gameplay, but told larger-than-life stories that hooked players with their fascinating and introspective narratives. 2019's Death Stranding pushed Kojima's ideas to their absolute limit, and is one of the greatest achievements in modern gaming history.

In an interview with GQ, Kojima spoke candidly about the movies that he loved the most, and his top four list was surprisingly diverse. Though he admitted that the list was prone to fluctuations, Kojima listed, "2001: A Space Odyssey. Taxi Driver. Mad Max 2. Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low" as his...

Total Chaos Gets New Trailer Certain to Terrify Even the Hardiest of Gamers
Image
Last Updated on Jun 10, 2025 @ 13:20:12 Pm.

Total Chaos, the next title from publisher Apogee Entertainment and developer Trigger Happy Interactive, received a new trailer during IGN Live, showcasing exactly what is in store for us once it releases on July 24th, 2025. It’s safe to say that, like a lot of you, we’ll be playing this psychological horror game from behind a cushion or another equally safe place.

Per Apogee Entertainment:

The new Total Chaos trailer dives into the creepy abyss of Fort Oasis, a desolate wasteland once considered paradise by its residential coal miner community. A shadow looms over the island, inhibiting a sense of madness, which can only be described as the feeling of constantly being watched. Monstrosities lurk around every corner of the island’s heart, trapping anybody daring enough to enter the void.

While shooting and bludgeoning through these twisted foes, players will unearth...

Hideo Kojima Revealed the One Feature in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach That Fixes the First Game’s Biggest Criticism
Image
Last Updated on Jun 10, 2025 @ 11:46:58 Am.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is right around the corner, and the developers are starting to make their rounds by sharing new features. During the live premiere at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, new gameplay footage was shared along with the opening minutes. The presentation went smoothly, and the developers flexed new features that raised a few eyebrows, including real-time music changing.

The Music in Death Stranding 2 Will Depend on Where You Go

The gaming community had a tough time getting into the original game, especially since the majority involves walking from point A to B while protecting cargo and evading BTs. In Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, the gameplay loop is fairly similar, but the developers struck gold in a new feature that blends music as you fill in Sam’s boots to deliver more cargo to a new continent.

Hideo Kojima Previews ‘Death Stranding 2: On The Beach’ With Teasers, Live Gameplay Demo At LA Premiere Event Featuring Troy Baker, Shioli Kutsuna & Woodkid
Image
Hideo Kojima treated gamers to a lengthy look at his highly anticipated Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Sunday night at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, including multiple live gameplay demonstrations and intriguing teasers that gave just enough to leave fans chomping at the bit for the game’s June 26 release date.

“I don’t want to give any secrets away,” Kojima teased to the audience, which gathered at the L.A. premiere event as part of Summer Game Fest 2025. He was joined by Troy Baker, Shioli Kutsuna and composer Woodkid.

Death Stranding, released in 2019, was a somewhat prophetic story. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic United States after a cataclysmic event causes destructive creatures to roam the Earth, forcing people into isolated colonies that can only connect via wireless, digital communications. The player controls as Sam Porter Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, who is a courier risking...
