'I Loved Seeing Him Geek Out': Tyler Hoechlin Recalls The Flash Star's Reaction to Seeing His Superman for First Time
Image
Before James Gun rebooted all of DC’s media, the Arrowverse was the staple shared continuity of DC’s super heroes on tv. The series of connected tv shows, which began when Arrow premiered on the CW back in 2012, was arguably bigger and definitely better than any of Snyder’s Dceu films or projects.

For a long time, the shared TV shows allowed heroes such as Green Arrow and The Flash to interact and share a space on screen, with their yearly crossovers consistently growing in scale, you always had a guarantee of a big superhero team up. It wasn’t until the Elsewords crossover event that we got to see two of the big Justice League members interact however, and - if you thought you were freaking out - apparently so were the stars themselves.

If You Like 'Time Bandits,' Watch This Time-Traveling Take on Superheroes
Image
The Apple TV+ series Time Bandits, created by Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi, and Iain Morris, just finished its first season and theres still no news about whether it will return for a second. The show, which is based on the 1981 film directed by Terry Gilliam, tells the story of Kevin Haddock, a kid whos obsessed with history. His history nerd tendencies cause him to be isolated from the other kids at school and even his own family. Centering a show on a child actor is always a risk, but lead actor Kal-El Tuck is wonderful as Kevin. He can handle the deadpan humor very well and also gives Kevin a real underdog vulnerability. Kevins ordinary life becomes fantastical when he joins a group of time-traveling thieves led by Penelope, played by the always-great Lisa Kudrow. Kevin finds out that the Time Bandits stole a map from the Supreme Being (played...

Legends of Tomorrow Star Caity Lotz Talks Scrapped Season 8 Storyline, Calls for Movie Continuation
Image
Caity Lotz's Sara Lance, who originated on Arrow, was part of the main cast of Legends of Tomorrow, the third series set in The CW's Arrowverse. Despite the show's passionate fanbase, Legends was canceled after its seventh season, leaving its characters' storylines unresolved.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant to promote her new movie The Lockdown, Lotz opened up about Legends' cancelation and where Season 8 would have taken her character had the show continued. "Yeah, it definitely was a cliffhanger," she admitted, noting how the series finale ended with Booster Gold and the Legends being arrested. "But I know we were going to be in prison, so the next season would've started off with us in prison. And I know the pregnancy wasn't going to be a normal pregnancy, which is what I was looking forward to. It wasn't going to just be basically what I am now...

'To Create In That Way Was Such A Joy:' Greg Berlanti Reflects On The Arrowverse
Image
Greg Berlanti breathed new life into the DC franchise when he created The CW's Arrowverse with Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, Phil Klemmer, and Geoff Johns. The interconnected shows, which included Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl, among others, ran for several years before ending with the series finale of The Flash in 2023.

Speaking to Deadline, Berlanti opened up about his time working on the shared DC universe. "It was a moment in time for me, and one plan, the size and the scope of which we were altogether able to achieve," he explained. "The closeness that I had with many of the actors and other writers and directors and the family that we built over that time, and the opportunity where every year we were doing these big crossover episodes and all the different showrunners would come in from all the different shows. To create in that way was such a joy and incredibly challenging.

Arrowverse Boss Reveals Scrapped Green Lantern Suit for Diggle
Image
The CW's Arrowverse boss Marc Guggenheim reveals the unused, not-Green Lantern costume that was designed for David Ramsey's John Diggle.

Per a July 5 post on his Substack, Guggenheim offered fans a glimpse at what could have been for Ramsey's John Diggle, aka Spartan. In response to the question of whether Diggle was ever meant to step into the role of the Arrowverse's Green Lantern, Guggenheim explained, "Unfortunately, we never got the approval to go full 'Green Lantern' with Diggle, but we were always trying to push the envelope as much as possible." Guggenheim accompanied his answer with images depicting what Ramsey would have looked like in a costume that was an obvious homage to the Green Lanterns, as well as a "subtle" version of the same costume.

We Lost: The Last Great Arrowverse Show Was Originally Planned as a Spinoff of the Most Underrated DC Superhero
Image
One thing that plagued the Arrowverse throughout its entirety was the dip in quality in most of its entries, especially in the latter seasons. This problem was apparent in its biggest attractions, Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl, which despite starting out on a high note and growing to immense popularity, lost their spark during the latter half of their run.

But it was quite the opposite for Legends of Tomorrow, which often gets overlooked when it comes to CW DC shows, and interestingly, the show was originally planned to be just an Atom spin-off.

Arrowverse Initially Intended Legends of Tomorrow to Be an Atom Spin-off

Legends of Tomorrow – CW

Unlike Noah Centineo‘s Atom in Black Adam, which barely gets any spotlight, Brandon Routh‘s Atom garnered immense popularity following his recurring appearances in Arrow back in 2014. This prompted CW to consider a spin-off with Ray Palmer’s Atom at its center,...

The Company You Keep Canceled at ABC After One Season
Image
It's going to be a one-season run for the ABC series The Company You Keep. Inspired by the South Korean series My Fellow Citizens!, the series was created by Julia Cohen with Milo Ventimiglia and Catherine Haena Kim leading the cast. The show premiered on ABC in February and wrapped up its 10-episode freshman season earlier this month. Following soft ratings that reached a series low with the season finale, it's now been reported that ABC has axed The Company You Keep after one season with no plans to develop season 2.

The news came amid multiple shows getting canceled over the past week. Along with The Company You Keep, ABC also axed Alaska Daily after one season along with Big Sky after a three-season run. CBS controversially canceled S.W.A.T. after five seasons, though they have since reversed that decision after an outcry from fans and star Shemar Moore. However, the...

‘The Company You Keep’ Review: Milo Ventimiglia’s ABC Series Is Old School TV in a Whole New Way
Milo Ventimiglia
If you thought Milo Ventimiglia was charming as a Ptsd-ridden dad with an alcohol problem on “This Is Us,” wait ’til you get a look at him on ABC’s “The Company You Keep.” He stars in the new drama as Charlie Nicoletti, a con man with a heart of gold, a guy born into a family of criminals who engineer elaborate heists to steal from the uber rich. The Nicolettis are the kinds of thieves for which you can easily fall, which is exactly what happens when Emma Hill (Catherine Haena Kim) crosses paths with Charlie. They both jokingly tell the truth about their professions. He’s a criminal, she’s CIA, but haha, just kidding, he runs a bar and she works for a logistics company. Their chemistry is immediate, and they quickly whisk each other away for a weekend of hotel room shenanigans. Neither knows the truth about the other,...

‘The Company You Keep’ Review: Milo Ventimiglia and Catherine Haena Kim in a Frothy ABC Drama With a Hint of Potential
Image
It may not be the second coming of Friday Night Lights or The Good Wife, but ABC’s Will Trent is probably my favorite broadcast network TV drama of the year. What I appreciate most about the Karin Slaughter adaptation is how quickly it established its characters, its location and the elements of its premise that are relatively distinctive. The show became what it aspired to be in a hurry.

No such alacrity accompanies ABC’s new drama The Company You Keep. Wade through two episodes of belabored exposition and The Company You Keep becomes a promising rom-com with thriller trappings and an interesting family backdrop — not a series fully realized but a series with some potential.

The kind of show it wants to be, basically, is The Catch, a Shonda Rhimes-produced comedic heist romance that ABC developed, redeveloped and redeveloped again over a truncated two-season run back in...

'The Company You Keep' Review: A Sexy, Fun Caper Worth Tuning in For
Image
There's been a dearth of sexy shows on television. That shouldn't be conflated with the number of skin-baring scenes that any given series might sprinkle into their narrative — but a genuinely sexy show, consisting of a fun, engaging dynamic between the romantic leads, believable chemistry, and all the plot obstacles that contribute to making the potential of their new relationship that much thornier. Enter ABC's new heist drama The Company You Keep, based on the K-drama My Fellow Citizens and developed by Julia Cohen and Phil Klemmer, which feels blended from equal parts Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Leverage and served up smooth for what might be one of the most surprising network TV contributions of 2023 so far.

Why Booster Gold Is The Most Exciting Part Of James Gunn's New DC Universe
Image
James Gunn and Peter Safran ended the first month of 2023 with a huge bang by announcing some of the massive projects that will be a part of the all-new DC Universe. As part of their story's first chapter, which has been christened "Gods and Monsters," the DC Studios co-chairs and co-CEOs revealed a number of unexpected movies starring Swamp Thing, Damian Wayne, Supergirl, The Authority, and more. They also outlined some surprising TV shows featuring Amanda Waller, Wonder Woman, the Green Lantern Corps, and Weasel from "The Suicide Squad."

But out of everything the duo revealed to select members of the press (including /Film's Jenna Busch) on Monday afternoon, one title, in particular, stood out from the rest. After being teased by a larger presence in film and television for over a decade, Booster Gold is finally getting his own series as part of the Dcu.

‘The Company You Keep’ Trailer: Milo Ventimiglia Is a Seductive Con Artist in a CIA Love Affair
Image
Milo Ventimiglia is bringing his Jack Pearson charm and signature short shorts to a new TV role: playing a con artist with questionable taste in women.

Ventimiglia leads upcoming ABC series “The Company You Keep” opposite Catherine Haena Kim (“Good Trouble”) as an ill-fated yet still well-matched couple. Ventimiglia is Charlie, a con artist who falls for CIA agent Emma (Kim) while neither knows their true identities.

Based on Korean Broadcasting System series “My Fellow Citizens,” the show is executive produced by co-showrunners Julia Cohen and Phil Klemmer, along with Ventimiglia’s Divide Pictures banner. Todd Harthan and Lindsay Goffman also executive produce for Gratitude Productions, with “Wicked” and “Crazy Rich Asians” director Jon M. Chu and Caitlin Foto serving as EPs for Electric Somewhere.

Per the official synopsis, “The Company You Keep” follows the aftermath of a night of passion that leads to love between con man Charlie and undercover CIA officer Emma,...

Milo Ventimiglia Joined ABC’s ‘The Company You Keep’ and Brought 90 of the ‘This Is Us’ Crew Along
Milo Ventimiglia
For Milo Ventimiglia, the three-time Emmy-nominated star of “This Is Us,” getting into his upcoming ABC project “The Company You Keep” was just about a “haircut and a shave, and here I go.”

The actor said at Wednesday’s Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena that he immediately jumped from the long-running NBC drama to the new caper show, taking roughly a two-week break in between roles and bringing along 90 of the production crew along with him.

“Shorthand, the expertise, the level that which I think ‘This Is Us’ operated, from a production standpoint, we carried it over to ours and everybody folded together and everyone works well together,” the actor said. “Production has been a lot of fun.”

The ABC thriller-drama, based on the Korean format “My Fellow Citizens,” has been in the works for two years, with Ventimiglia also serving as executive producer and developing the project...

The Company You Keep Teaser Trailer: Milo Ventimiglia Plays a Charismatic Con Man in New ABC Drama
Milo Ventimiglia
Milo Ventimiglia returns to the small screen with his first post-This Is Us TV role next month, and it looks very similar to some of ABC's past efforts.

The Company You Keep touches down on ABC on Sunday, February 19, at 10 p.m.

"A night of passion leads to love between con man Charlie and undercover CIA officer Emma, who are unknowingly on a collision course professionally," the logline reads.

"While Charlie ramps up the family business so he can get out for good, Emma's closing in on the vengeful criminal who holds Charlie's family debts in hand – forcing them to reckon with the lies they've told so they can save themselves and their families from disastrous consequences."

It's a compelling hook, but the teaser trailer doesn't do the best job of showcasing the plot ABC shared.

As a result, the trailer plays off more like The Catch, the ill-fated...

End of an Era: The Highs and Lows of The CW
Image
If Jared Pedalecki and Jensen Ackles were the heartthrobs of The CW, Mark Pedowitz was its heartbeat.

When Nexstar announced its completed acquisition of (75 percent of) The CW on Monday, it installed board member Dennis Miller, a venture capitalist with executive stints at Sony, Lionsgate, and Turner, as the broadcast network’s new president. Pedowitz, who was chairman and CEO of the youth-skewing broadcast network for the past 11 years is out; he’ll stay in the game via the revival of his former production company.

Though The CW never quite soared like so many of its DC superheroes, the decade-plus under Pedowitz had its moments — and its misses. IndieWire looks back on both below.

With additional reporting by Erin Strecker, Christian Blauvelt, Ben Travers, and Kristen Lopez.

ABC Picks Up ‘The Company You Keep’ Starring Milo Ventimiglia To Series

The drama, produced by 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios, was the last remaining “second cycle” pilot to learn its fate, but was a consistent frontrunner and a move to a series pickup always looked promising.

Like drama pilot Will Trent, which was picked up to series this month, The Company You Keep had started a writers room in anticipation of a series order. The project also had brought on seasoned writer-producer Phil Klemmer as co-showrunner. It will debut at midseason on ABC in 2023.

‘Criminal Nature’ Drama Pilot Not Moving Forward At ABC; ‘The Company You Keep’ Still Looks Good

Shimizu added, “Thank you to our fans; your love and passion for our strange band of misfits has made every break, every script, every daily, every cut, and every mix worth all the hard work. We see you, we love you, and you’ll always have a place on the Waverider.”

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will not return for an eighth season.

It marks the end of a long road for the series, which premiered in 2016.

While The CW is known for giving its longer-running series a proper goodbye, this season of Legends ended on a cliffhanger. Sources, however, pointed out that the characters can easily populate other series in the DC Arrowverse so you may see one or two of them in other shows.

‘Legends of Tomorrow’ EP on [Spoiler’s] Exit & the Season 7 Finale Booster Shot
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Season 7 finale of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, “Knocked Down, Knocked Up.” And if that title doesn’t clue you into at least one development, you might want to go back in time to see where you lost your way.] The team said goodbye to Season 7 tonight in an hour that also saw them losing a beloved member and learning that a teeny-tiny one might be joining them, via an unexpectedly expectant Sara (Caity Lotz). In addition, there was the debut of Scrubs vet Donald Faison as DC Comics’ Booster Gold, a resolution to the Good-vs.-Evil Gideon (Amy Louise Pemberton) saga, a romantic rescue during World War 1 for Gwyn (Matt Ryan), and, in the episode’s final seconds, a raid on the Waverider by some Time Bureau types hunting down our band of history-tinkering misfits. Should they get an eighth-season renewal, showrunner Phil Klemmer has big plans for their futures that ...

TVLine Items: Donald Faison Visits Legends, Boys Spinoff Teaser and More

Legends of Tomorrow has tapped Scrubs alum Donald Faison for a rather mysterious role: The actor will appear in the Season 7 finale (and possibly even Season 8, if the CW drama is renewed) as an unnamed character who admires the Legends, EW.com reports.

Faison’s character is “an unauthorized time traveler with high-profile aspirations,” who is “looking for a boost that only fame, fortune, and glory can provide,” per the official description. “But the big question is whether his respect for the team is going to be able to help the Legends out of hot water or get them into hotter water!

Legends of Tomorrow Season 7 Episode 5

It was almost impossible for Legends of Tomorrow to follow up the spectacular 100th episode with something that matched it, and while they didn’t hit the same high, they came really close. Could they pull off three all-time classic episodes in a row? Could the best show on television put out a three episode run in season seven that eclipses the rest of the series?

Turns out no. But even a down episode for Legends of Tomorrow is a ton of fun.

With a looming midseason break in a couple of weeks, we were due for a plot mover, and that’s exactly what “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Scientist” is. But there might be something else going on here.

The big plot news of this episode is the reunification of the team,...

The timeline is really not on Legends of Tomorrow‘s side when the CW drama returns for Season 7 on its new night, this Wednesday at 8/7c.

For starters, a second, mysterious Waverider blew up the team’s time-ship, leaving them stranded in 1925 without a vessel or their nifty gadgets. (Who’s going to do the cooking now that Gideon’s not around to fabricate all their meals?!) Even more troubling: the heroes’ extended presence in the past could have major consequences on the course of history.

Olivia Swann, Shayan Sobhian, Nick Zano, Amy Louise Pemberton, Matt Ryan, Adam Tsekhman, Caity Lotz, Tala Ashe, Jes Macallan, and Lisseth Chavez in DC: Legends of Tomorrow (2016)
DC's Legends of Tomorrow is making some changes as it looks toward Season 7.

The cast - including Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Jes Macallan, Olivia Swann, Adam Tsekhman, Shayan Sobhian, Lisseth Chavez, and Matt Ryan - plus executive producers/co-showrunners Keto Shimizu and Phil Klemmer appeared at a Legends panel at Comic Con@Home to discuss the series.

Series star Caity Lotz introduced the panel with a sneak peek at a trailer that featured an exclusive look at the remainder of the show's sixth season.

Phil Klemmer revealed that "while John Constantine's arc on the show is coming to an end in season six, Matt Ryan's journey with the Legends is not over."

In season seven, Ryan will be back as a series regular, and he will play a new original role: Dr. Gwyn Davies, an eccentric scientist from the early 20th century who might be the team's only hope next season.

'DC's Legends of Tomorrow' Derails Avalance Wedding in New Trailer (Video)
Olivia Swann, Shayan Sobhian, Nick Zano, Amy Louise Pemberton, Matt Ryan, Adam Tsekhman, Caity Lotz, Tala Ashe, Jes Macallan, and Lisseth Chavez in DC: Legends of Tomorrow (2016)
It wouldn't be an Arrowverse wedding without a nefarious villain crashing the ceremony with some terrifying friends. So naturally, the long-awaited Avalance wedding in "DC's Legends of Tomorrow," can't go off without a hitch.

Series star Caity Lotz kicked off the show's Comic Con at Home panel on Sunday with a new trailer for the back half of Season 6. And as Sara Lance and Ava Sharpe begin exchanging their vows -- "co-captains forever baby!" -- the season's big bad Bishop returned, sending in some wedding crashers.

"It's gonna be you and me for all eternity, Sara Lance," he threatens. Of course, Sara Lance is nothing if not tough, even if she has been abducted by aliens (again). From there, more classic "Legends" shenanigans ensue, including extradimensional bowling, board games, aliens, weddings, magic mushrooms, murder mysteries and more.

You can watch the full trailer via the video above.
