British Soaps Spoilers And Scandals – Coronation Street-Cropper’s Chess

How does Roy Cropper’s (David Neilson) prison promote good behavior, or do I worry too much? It was intriguing to see Roy with a chess set in his cell, to allow chess pieces may not be as straightforward as one might think.

What if Roy swallows a knight if he can’t handle prison, or tries to put someone’s eyes out with a rook-however, American villains love chess-think Stefano Dimera (Joseph Mascolo)!

There’s a chance that another prisoner might reach him before the knight does; Griff Reynolds, (Michael Condron) a nasty individual, manages to enter Roy...

Prince Harry
Meghan sparkle is already working its magic!

Markle mania gripped an English town on Friday when Prince Harry and fiancée Meghan Markle embarked on their first official royal outing as a couple.

Four days after announcing their royal engagement, the pair visited Nottingham, about 125 miles north of London, where they started their day greeting enthusiastic fans in the town center.

The couple arrived to cheers from the crowds outside the National Justice Museum. Meghan, in an ankle-length navy coat, often put her arm on Harry’s back as they walked slowly down the barriers.

1 | Regarding the Stranger Things 2 finale, did anyone else chuckle at the parallel between its climactic sequence — involving heroes descending into a cave on a small elevator — and that of Netflix’s own The Defenders? Also, Dustin’s penchant for Dig Dug (in which creatures are confronted in maze-line tunnels) turned out to be a bit of foreshadowing, eh?

‘Heal the Living’ Blu-ray Review
Stars: Emmanuelle Seigner, Tahar Rahim, Anne Dorval, Bouli Lanners | Written by Katell Quillévéré, Gilles Taurand | Directed by Katell Quillévéré

This French-Belgian drama initially allures with an opening sequence that sees teenager Simon Limbres (Gabin Verdet) climb out of his girlfriend’s window and head to the beach with his buddies for a pre-dawn surf. It’s a mesmerising sequence with a dreamlike quality, as Simon observes the magnificence of nature from beneath the waves. On the way home, Simon falls asleep in the passenger seat. He will never wake up. And we will not see filmmaking of this quality again for the next 100 minutes.

Simon’s mother, Marianne (Emmanuelle Seigner), arrives at the hospital, to be told that her son is brain-dead. A young doctor, Thomas (Tahar Rahim), explains the rareness of Simon’s condition: he won’t live, but he has a body full of organs which are ripe for donation.

The Orlando, Fla., mom of four had been excitedly looking forward to the holiday as she does every year: “That is probably my most important holiday — more important than my birthday. It was a choice I made, to be a mom.”

This year, her own mom, Margaret, gifted Beaver and her sister-in-law with identical cookie bouquets from Cookies by Design in Orlando — but the two bouquets had one key difference.

Outlander Season 3 Fills Two Key Roles - Who Are They?
Starz announced today that two more key roles have been cast for Outlander Season 3.

Playing an older version of Fergus, the beloved French pickpocket that Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) took under their wing during Outlander Season 2, will be César Domboy (The Walk). Oh how we're going to miss that young moppet, though!!

Also joining the cast, playing one of Laoghaire’s (Nell Hudson) young daughters, Marsali, is Lauren Lyle.

Born into a brothel, Fergus has grown up into a charming, devilishly handsome man with a strong sense of loyalty and decorum, despite his unconventional upbringing.

He is the ultimate romantic, wearing his heart on his sleeve and falling in and out of love easily.

However, Fergus’s devotion to Jamie has never wavered, making the Frenchman an integral part of the Fraser clan.

Still, his debonair demeanor masks a longing for a lasting love and a permanent sense of belonging.

Outlander Season 3: Two Key Roles Cast!
Starz, in association with Sony Pictures Television, has announced today that two key roles have been cast in Outlander Season 3.

Joining Jamie’s world in the 18th century, John Bell (The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies) will play the role of Young Ian, a nephew of Jamie's.

Joining Claire’s world set in Boston in the 20th Century, Wil Johnson (Waking the Dead) will play her friend and medical colleague, Joe Abernathy.

Young Ian Murray is a tall, gangly Scottish lad with a heart of gold, a stubborn streak and a penchant for getting into trouble. Bursting with charm, he’s more like his adventurous, fierce uncle Jamie Fraser than his farmer father Ian – but when we meet him, he is still a very gawky boy.

However, he keeps trying to prove that he is a man and we will see him grow into quite a formidable one as the series evolves.

Frank Sinatra – Goodfellas

This Express piece quotes an Empire Magazine interview with Martin Scorsese’s long-time editor Thelma Schoonmaker in which she relates how the original plan was to have Frank Sinatra’s original recording of My Way play over the end credits of modern gangster classic Goodfellas instead of the Sid Vicious cover that was eventually used.

“Sinatra would never let Marty use his music,” explains Schoonmaker, “which is too bad because Marty may...

Rizzoli & Isles Season 7 Episode 5 Review: Shadow of Doubt
Finally, an episode of Rizzoli & Isles that's more serious than silly!

Rizzoli & Isles Season 7 Episode 5 featured an interesting case involving a fall down the stairs that wasn't so accidental. Even better, there were a couple of nice moments between Maura and Jane. And Maura's bio mom was back.

The case of the hour has been fairly ridiculous lately, but this one was an exception. The episode began with a dark, creepy scene of a woman screaming and someone sneaking through the house, ultimately ending with a gruesome discovery: a body at the bottom of the stairs.

The juxtaposition of this with the gentle family scene over at Maura's was perfect. Soon after the victim's death, Maura was struggling with her mother's coming to see her while she had minor surgery and Angela was coming through the door with bagels.

The normality of it all really underscored the horror of the crime scene.

Outlander Star Talks [Spoiler]'s Bloody Death: 'I Was Comforting Cait!'
Outlander (2014)
Warning: The following post contains spoilers for Saturday’s Outlander. Proceed with caution.

Outlander‘s Stephen Walters might’ve thought he was safe. After all, in the Diana Gabaldon novel on which Season 2 of the Starz series is based, Rupert — not Angus — is the recipient of a fatal, wartime wound..

But as viewers saw in Saturday’s episode, Walters wound up pleating his plaid one last time when Angus died of undiagnosed internal bleeding at Claire’s field hospital after helping a wounded Rupert back to safety.

Outlander Recap: French Court Press
Och. M. G.

That’s really the only acceptable response to this week’s Outlander, unless your vocabulary and/or heritage means you’ve got a long stream of Gaelic curses handy for the yelling. Because good God, guys: Black Jack Randall is alive.

I don’t say that with surprise; like many of you, I’m familiar with the books and knew this moment was coming even before the first time Randall leered at Claire in the woods. Still, though, the mere idea that Randall lives — and that Jamie may eventually learn of his existence, too — is a juicy...

Charlie Cox in Daredevil (2015)
'Daredevil' season 2: Reviewing every episode
Charlie Cox in Daredevil (2015)
Last week, I published my review of the first half of Daredevil season 2. Over the weekend, I watched the remaining six episodes, and I have some more thoughts — first general, non-spoiler ones, followed by more specific and spoiler-filled thoughts on each episode — coming up just as soon as I inherit the tapes with the car... In some ways, the back half of the season was an improvement over the first, thanks to the arrival of two strong characters, and the rapid shift away from a few story threads (mob war, Reyes' vendetta against the law firm) that never worked in the first place. But in others, it continued many of the problems I had through the first seven hours. It was still too cluttered and flabby, while Daredevil himself remained one of the least interesting parts of a show that bore his name. Also, the later episodes focused more on Elektra than Punisher,...

House Of Cards season 4 spoiler-free review
facebook

google+

Frank Underwood may be running for election in House Of Cards season 4, but it's not the White House that's threatening to tumble down...

One of the biggest questions, going into this latest season of House Of Cards, is whether events off screen will overshadow those being transmitted by broadband to homes around the world. Perhaps that’s the wrong way of putting it. The real question is not whether the fortunes of Trump, Clinton, Sanders, Rubio and co. will be more vivid and loud than those of Mr and Mrs Underwood, but by how much. It’s an election year, and an especially disruptive and unusual one at that, so the task that befalls the makers of House Of Cards is how to make their show stand out when there’s a real life drama playing out like a technicolour Bayeux Tapestry on everybody’s TV screens anyway.

Nyff 2015. Projections: Flipping Through Channels
The New STYLEThis is the second year that the New York Film Festival has presented Projections, its extensive showcase of experimental film and video that for years had been called Views From the Avant-Garde. The name change (or "rebranding," in the parlance of our ugly times) corresponded, of course, to the departure of longtime programmer Mark McElhatten. Under his stewardship, Views became one of the premiere experimental film festivals in the world, a long weekend of high caliber dispatches from established masters, alongside bracing discoveries by up-and-coming makers whose work somehow caught Mark's eye. His programming partner, Film Comment's Gavin Smith, often brought along selections that complemented Mark's, even as they were out of his usual bailiwick. The Views era was not without its dissenters. Some complained that McElhatten rounded up the usual suspects year after year, sometimes without regard to the relative quality of their latest offerings. Others, most prominently Su Friedrich,...

Peter Andre on Strictly Come Dancing has been a long time coming - the star has been asked to take part for the last three series.

The singer, who was confirmed for the BBC show earlier this week, told Free Radio that he's "incredibly excited and incredibly nervous".

Explaining how the producers "have been kind enough to ask [him] for the last three years", Andre admitted that he thought his window of opportunity had come and gone.

"I remember the last year when they asked, we couldn't do it because we still had the reality show and these sorts of things we were committed to, and you need a certain amount of hours a week to film, etc," he said.

"So I said to [manager] Claire, 'They're not gonna ask me next year, they won't'. I said, 'The show's too big now, it's become the biggest show on TV and they don't need to ask anyone,...

However, Erica, who recently returned to Weatherfield to drop the bombshell she is pregnant, is set to experience heartbreak in the coming weeks when she suffers a miscarriage. Meanwhile, the insider said it was the former 'Emmerdale' and 'Bad Girls'...

Lord of the Rings: Where are the Fellowship of the Ring now?
Dominic Monaghan at an event for 2009 American Music Awards (2009)
Last week, Dominic Monaghan sent our nostalgic little hearts all aflutter when he tweeted a picture of his mini-reunion with Lord of the Rings co-stars Billy Boyd, Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom.

With The Hobbit trilogy now concluded and Peter Jackson having theoretically said goodbye to Middle-earth forever, Monaghan's post got us thinking about the rest of the Fellowship. Below, we take a look at all nine members of the Fellowship and what they're up to today.

Elijah Wood (Frodo)

After Frodo said his goodbyes and departed for the Undying Lands (don't pretend you're not tearing up at the mere memory), Elijah Wood veered away from blockbuster lead roles in favour of an eclectic mix of indie movies comprising the great (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), the good (Everything Is Illuminated) and the ugly (Green Street).

His most memorable post-Frodo role has to be mute, cannibalistic serial killer Kevin in Frank Miller's Sin City,...

Nathan Barley is 10: Looking back at Charlie Brooker's debut TV series
Originally published two years ago, we re-present our look back at Nathan Barley to mark its 10-year anniversary

10 years since Channel 4 aired Nathan Barley, Charlie Brooker's "self-facilitating media node" has gone from absurdist parody to frightening reality.

A flop when it originally aired, but a cult hit on DVD, Nathan Barley is love-it-or-hate it telly. From Brass Eye creator Chris Morris, it was edgy, raw and often hilarious.

Brimming with up-and-coming talent like Brooker (Dead Set), Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), and fellow Booshers Noel Fielding and Richard Ayoade, as well as some blink-and-you'll-miss-'em cameos from Stephen Mangan (Episodes), Mat Horne (Gavin & Stacey) and Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch, we think it's time Nathan Barley was given the praise it deserved.

Inspired by a mock TV show called C**t from Brooker's satirical TVGoHome website, the show follows two East Londoners: Nathan Barley (Nicholas Burns), the "self facilitating media...

"I don't wear dirty underwear, Big Brother": See 5 angry stars who've quit
Alexander O'Neal has revealed his reasoning for quitting Celebrity Big Brother following his dramatic departure over the weekend.

The singer became embroiled in two unpleasant confrontations with showbiz blogger Perez Hilton, which resulted in a formal warning from Big Brother over O'Neal's use of an offensive term.

Speaking to CBB host Emma Willis on Celebrity Big Brother's Bit On The Side, Alexander revealed why he walked, saying: "I did it for myself and for my housemates."

He added that "the stress became unbearable" prior to his exit, and was subsequently forced to accept that the 'Perez problem' was not going to go away.

But Alexander is not the only disgruntled celebrity housemate to voluntarily leave, and we doubt he'll be the last.

Some, like Claire King, withdrew from the show due to illness, while others have been removed by producers.

But can you remember some of the former CBB stars...

Celebrity Big Brother: Housemates pair up for ventriloquist's dummy task
Housemates will have to act as ventriloquists and dummies as part of the latest Celebrity Big Brother task.

Six of the celebrities will be split into puppet and performer pairs, with the ventriloquists having to speak on behalf of their partners for the entire day.

If the ventriloquists succeed and the dummies manage to remain silent - no matter what situations they are forced into - the group will pass the task.

Big Brother has also prepared costumes for those taking part.

The ventriloquist group will be assigned "hideous showbiz shirts" and must stay with and speak for their dummies at all times.

The dummies will be forced to wear head-to-toe black and will have the small body of a dummy tied under their chins.

They will also be required to wear a mask with a moveable mouth, which can only be controlled by the ventriloquist.
