Trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, which is one of the most selective schools in the world. To be admitted onto the BA acting course, this school accepts 28 out of approximately 2500 applicants ( an acceptance rate of 1% ).His contemporaries included Miranda Richardson , Pete Postlethwaite, Alan Corduner, and Rob Edwards.

Mr. Kidnie carved a career in the theatre by (what can only be described as) organizing ignorance of history for discovery. In 1983, alongside Amanda Plummer, he portrayed " Lee Harvey Oswald " in the play of the same title by Michael Hastings and directed by John Michaelson at the Bayview in Toronto. This led to a collaboration with members of Marshall Mcluhan's coach house and a series of radio programs and podcasts now known as Achieve Radio. In 1998-99 ,he portrayed Roy Cohn in Tony Kirschner's 'Angels in America ' at the Centaur in Montreal. In 2007 , also at the Centaur, he played Werner Heisenberg in Michael Frayn's ' Copenhagen '.
