Erik and Lyle Menendez’s legal team will be making their next moves to see the brothers freed after a parole board last week swiftly decided they’d remain in prison. The push comes in wake of newly leaked audio from Erik’s parole board hearing last week that gives fresh insight into his mindset during the 1989 killings of José and Kitty Menendez.

On Friday evening, Lyle Menendez’s parole request was denied, following the board’s earlier rejection of Erik’s bid. Both hearings were held remotely, with the brothers appearing via video link from the San Diego prison where they have been incarcerated for years of their decade in prison. Their life sentences were reduced earlier this year to 50 years to life with the possibility of parole after a drawn-out legal battle with Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman ended in an L.A. judge ruling for the reduction.

Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman is calling on the court to withdraw a new sentencing hearing for Lyle and Erik Menendez, concluding that the siblings “do not meet the standards for rehabilitation.”

“They have not exhibited the full insights and accepted complete responsibility for their actions,’ Hochman said at a press conference this morning.

The Menendez brothers were sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the 1989 shotgun murders of their parents.

The hearing is scheduled for March 20 and 21. Hochman’s predecessor, George Gascon, supported resentencing, including that they be made eligible for parole.

The Justice Department released Jeffrey Epstein’s contact list on Thursday, which revealed that Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s mother, Ethel Kennedy, was in it. The Oscar-winning director — whose 1991 film JFK is easily the best-known and most popular film ever made on the subject of Kennedy’s 1963 murder — released a statement late Friday concerning Trump’s move to order the release of the final 3 percent of the roughly 5 million investigative files related to the topic that have been held by the National Archives and Records Administration. As you’ve no doubt heard by now, wildfires have devastated Southern California, destroying thousands of homes and claiming dozens of lives.

Anyone with friends or family in the area knows the anxiety that comes with watching the news reports out of Los Angeles, and the subsequent relief that comes from getting in contact and learning your loved ones are safe.

Her estranged relatives Prince Harry and Meghan Markle live in Santa Barbara, an area that thankfully was not impacted by the fires.

But if you were watching the situation unfold from afar — especially from across the ocean — it probably seemed like the entirety of Southern California was under immediate threat.

President Donald Trump has ordered the declassification of records pertaining to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr. The order comes after former President Joe Biden postponed the release of some additional files in 2022. The release of files began during Trump’s first presidency under the JFK Act.

The JFK Act reversed the decision to seal official records of the assassination from the public until 2029. Interestingly, Oliver Stone’s 1991 film JFK was partially credited for the passing of the act. The film was a critical and commercial hit, but it remains one of the most controversial films from Stone.

Donald Trump signed an executive order today to release more records related to the assassination of John F. Kennedy, as well as those related to the killings of Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.

The JFK assassination has long been the subject of conspiracy theories, with long calls for the government to release remaining records that are still classified.

The executive order gives the director of national intelligence and the attorney general, in coordination with the assistant to the president for national security affairs and the counsel to the president, 15 days to present a plan for the full release of the records. They will have 45 days to present a plan for the release of the Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. records.

The tell-all documentary will be streaming on January 7 based on the controversial show hosted by Jerry Springer.

The former Secretary of State, Oscar-winning actor, and Emmy-winning actor and Parkinson’s disease advocate were honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden on Saturday (January 4) at the White House in Washington, DC.
