Archery expert Jim Kent critiques Taskmaster's unrealistic arrow technique in Black Widow. Taskmaster's return in Thunderbolts offers potential for redemption and better fight choreography. Realistic combat understanding could improve MCU scenes, with Thunderbolts learning from Black Widow's criticism.
A new video from an archery expert has taken Taskmaster to task after her appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie Black Widow. Jim Kent, a traditional archer, was featured in a Business Insider video where he critiqued the accuracy of several archers in movies and television, rating each clip and provided commentary on technique and realism within the scene. With the McU's movie roster being a cornerstone of recent action movies, Black Widow's Taskmaster was featured in this video, shown firing exploding arrows during a city chase. Interestingly, this part of the MCU timeline scored relatively low.
On YouTube, Kent gave the scene a score of 4 out of 10, noting that "bows don't do that.

Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy excelled at many things, but special mention should be given to the films’ action set pieces and the attention to detail. In one of the crucial scenes in the second film, The Two Towers, Saruman’s army of Uruk-hai march towards the Helm’s Deep fortress, and the army at Aragorn’s command prepares to counter the attack. As the Orc-breeds line up in front of the fortress, one of the old archers under Aragorn’s command prematurely shoots an arrow.

For years, fans believed that if this one mistake from the archer had been avoided, casualties would have been much less for the defenders before Gandalf and Éomer arrived with the Rohirrim. However, an expert archer reveals that the scene in the film was technically accurate and explains what happened in the scene.

An archery expert analyzes the Amazon scene in Zack Snyder's Justice League and points out some unrealistic elements, such as the weight of the Mother Box on an arrow and how a character catches an arrow. However, the expert praises the film for accurately portraying the movement of the bow in slow motion, giving it a score of 8/10. While the scene may not be realistic according to real-life archery standards, it fits within the fantasy elements of the DC world and the superhuman abilities of the Amazons.
The Amazon scene from Zack Snyder's Justice League gets analyzed by an archery expert. Among the many characters in Zack Snyder's Justice League are several Amazons who try to keep one of the Mother Boxes safe on Themyscira. DC's Amazons are fierce warriors, but it turns out that the movie might not be the most realistic when it comes to the depiction of one of their skills.

Archery expert Jim Kent breaks down archery scenes in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring involving Legolas and Lurtz, the Uruk-hai leader. Legolas makes good use of his back quiver, Kent explains, but Lurtz's grip on the bow, the bow creaking, and arrow sounds aren't accurate. The archery mistakes are done in the name of adding characterization and style, and this is ultimately more important, as long as viewers remain engaged in the story.

Katniss Everdeen's archery skills in The Hunger Games may look good on screen, but according to an archery expert, her Olympic form wouldn't work well in a hunting scenario with moving targets. Legolas from Lord of the Rings, played by Orlando Bloom, may be a fan favorite, but experts found flaws in his archery skills during the Battle of Helm Deep in The Two Towers. While fictional archers like Katniss and Legolas may not have realistic skills, directors prioritize making them look good on screen rather than accuracy.
Katniss Everdeen has come down to history as one of the best archers in cinema. The main character from The Hunger Games saga was famous because of her archery skills, but it seems like the movie got it all wrong.
