Impressed with Matthew's performance against Kurt Angle, the WWE signed him to a contract on July 12, 2005. Matt Striker made his official signed debut on an episode of WWE Sunday Night HEAT airing August 7, 2005, where he defeated Johnny Parisi.

Worked as a social studies teacher at Benjamin Cardozo High School in Queens, New York while becoming a wrestler. Adult film star Ron Jeremy was once a student of the high school.

First appeared on WWE television on the February 24, 2005 edition of WWE SmackDown! in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he wrestled Kurt Angle in an invitational match. Kaye resigned from his teaching job after the school discovered he was constantly calling in sick due to his wrestling bookings.
